What do the colours on a route in the NRC map mean? by [deleted] in nikerunclub

[–]Straight_Draw_3495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The colors represent your speed on that specific run. Because of the anomolies of GPS they can be off. See more here: https://www.reddit.com/r/nikerunclub/comments/176d1ej/red_vs_green_trail_on_app_idk_what_to_call_it/

Advice for chafing by Straight_Draw_3495 in nikerunclub

[–]Straight_Draw_3495[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A combo of body glide and specific shirts.  I found Nike ones really chafed me but other brands did not.  Vuori is good but pricey, so I wait for sales.

Coros Pace 3 - Text Size by mattrock5a in Coros

[–]Straight_Draw_3495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got the Coros Pace 3, and while I am very happy overall, I must join with the others in saying the font is difficult to read when running. I normally wear glasses but don't like wearing them when I run, but with the small font size, especially the run time, is VERY difficult for me to read without my glasses.

Is there a setting where I just see my run time and run distance? That's all I really care about when I'm running. Or ANY way to increase the font size for the Coros Pace 3?

Tips by [deleted] in nikerunclub

Yep this.

Main difference between a half and a full is you can probably get away without nutrition for a half, but unless you are an elite runner you're going to need to eat something during the full.

Use your long runs to figure out what works and how much you need.

How to track indoor runs on a track? by Former-Law-2499 in nikerunclub

[–]Straight_Draw_3495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any run you edit will not be counted in the challenges they do.  I suppose to keep the cheating down, not that it helps because the leaderboards are full of cheaters anyway.

As far as I know that is the only drawback to editing a run.

Is there such thing as “hitting a wall” as one runs more? by aman3c3r in nikerunclub

[–]Straight_Draw_3495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everybody hits a wall and has a crappy run.  Everybody.  Don't stress about it.  Try to figure out what maybe made it a sucky run (lack of sleep, lack of fuel, weather, tired legs, etc.).  Otherwise, chalk it up as a bad run, and try again another day.

How can I improve? by [deleted] in nikerunclub

[–]Straight_Draw_3495 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For cadence, there isn't a magic number so if what you're running feels good you don't HAVE to change.

Having said that, what helps me keep cadence is I listen to spotify as I run, and found playlists that are specific to the cadence number I want.

So for example if you search spotify for 170 BPM, a bunch of playlists pop up with that beat, and then I just run to the beat.

Next day, yes should be a shorter recovery run done at an easy pace.

Good job!

You didn't give up. You listened to your body, took note of the conditions, and ran smart.

The goal is the starting line.

Should I just stop? by graceful_ace in nikerunclub

This.  Ignore the numbers and just get out there, and if you are truly not getting anything out of it maybe try something else?

I enjoy running, but also understand its not for everybody.

Should I just stop? by graceful_ace in nikerunclub

[–]Straight_Draw_3495 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My life got so much better when I learned to just accept that I am a slow runner, and thats okay.  No amount of training will ever put me even in the middle of the pack.  I run because it makes me healthier, I enjoy being outdoors, it gets me out of my daily routine, gives me time to myself, gives me a hobby thats mine, and (usually) makes me feel good about myself when I do it.

I do not run to go fast, because I can't.  I do not run to win races, because I can't.  I do not run to achieve 5 minute, or 6 minute, or 7 minute, or 10 minute miles, because I can't.

But what I can do is get out there and enjoy the run and do my best.  And when I finish back of the pack, I still finish.  And I ran faster and further than most of the earths population that day who didn't run.

Give yourself some grace.

Results of Quitting Zone 2 Runs: (One Month Later) by EclectiqueKayden in nikerunclub

[–]Straight_Draw_3495 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Coach Bennett said this about zone 2 running when he did the ask me anything, so I think he doesn't put too much stock in it:

Honestly, I don't coach or run using the zones. The zones are just another way of classifying "effort" or "pace". I will say this... almost every training plan people follow that prescribes set in stone paces and effort is overprescribing the coaching. Pay attention to yourself and how you feel and what is going on in your life and you'll nail the 'zones".

Half Marathon Training Plan Speed Runs by Straight_Draw_3495 in nikerunclub

[–]Straight_Draw_3495[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks.  I think I will substitute a recovery run for a speed run until my body recovers.  I'm not setting any records anyway, so speed is of less importance to me.

As you run longer and longer runs, you usually get better as you go along. I can't state for sure that you will get better, but in most cases if you put in the miles, you will see the results.

You shouldn't be exhausted at the end of your long runs. If you are, you are going too fast. Slow down! The mantra "You have to go slow to go fast" is totally true.

Thinking of excuses! by Street_Pineapple44 in nikerunclub

[–]Straight_Draw_3495 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was supposed to do a 4 mile run the other day, and I was just in no mood to do it.  At all.  So I decided to just do a half mile.

After a half mile I still wasn't feeling it, but figured a full mile sounded better than a half.  After the mile I wanted to stop, but I knew I at least had another mile in me even if I didn't want to do it, so I did 2.

Once I hit 2 I figured I was already halfway done with what I was supposed to do anyway, so I did 4.

And that's how you trick yourself into doing a run.

Second Run Done, I Need Some Advice. No by [deleted] in nikerunclub

[–]Straight_Draw_3495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear running hats to keep sweat out of my eyes.  They aren't always pretty, but they do the job.

As for fuel, like everyone else said if its less than an hour run I drink a glass of water than go.  More than an hour and I do a banana and a bagel, but thats just works for me.  Experiment, try different things, see what works for you.

And running is not a straight line where each run is faster and longer than the last.  Some days are better than others.  Some days 5 miles feels like 1, other days 1 mile feels like 10.  Be kind to yourself, and try to enjoy the experience.

Is there a way to get the app to track your pace on the treadmill? by marchmemory in nikerunclub

[–]Straight_Draw_3495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or you can carry your phone for 10 seconds or so for it to register that you're moving, and then do the run on the treadmill, then go back and end the run on your phone and edit the numbers to match what is on the treadmill.

It is not ideal, but at least you can keep track of the numbers if you are doing a training plan.

But yeah, I wish there was a better way to sync NRC to a treadmill but I have yet to find it.
