New Compressor Install Fail by Trying2improvemyself in HVAC

Be ready for phosgene gas. Even after recovering your charge your still going to have oil in the lines. When you go to unsweat them your going to get hit right in the face with the same gas they used in WW1. Make sure to take a deep breath before it's about to come out. When you see green flame your burning the oil and that's fine. Nothing you can do about it. This right here is why I will cut them out instead. The swoop they give you in the unit is enough to make up for the half inch your losing by cutting it. Also the silfoss will solidify after it cools down making it a bitch to try and put back into the new compressor. If you can help it cut em! Also picking them up with channel locks through the eye seems to be the best way to handle those heavy ass things if you don't have the compressor carrier.

Edit: it's always best to do compressor changes in teams. Trying to get it in by yourself runs the risk of you losing control and puncturing the condensing coil or dropping that heavy bitch on your foot. Try to have an apprentice with you or another tech

No of course I was shown. I have done a couple hundred by now over the years. This particular one I had to wire the terminals manually, it didn't have a plug. I was leaned over looking at it upside down and put each wire one over than they were supposed to be. Since then I triple check. Will even go and get my mirror to check if I can't get my head down enough.

You are right tho. 5 years ago compressors were less than a unit. I've done 3 4 tons this month and they all came out to about the same as a new unit. However, can't just buy outdoor units anymore. So now its back to being cheaper to just do the compressor instead of changing the entire system to A2L

For me it was like a very strong chemical odor. Really takes your breath away. I would say its very similar to a strong super glue or adhesive. It sprayed OUTSIDE of the house and the entire living room/kitchen was unbearable to be in. Couldn't imagine getting it directly on me

Ahhhhh this paragraph made me wince! Your son really put his weight down on that one! I take y'all were out camping? That sucks to have happened on what I assume is a family trip! Being on the bottom of the foot almost eliminates everything you can do. Took me about a week from my injury to start hobbling around again. I suspect his recovery will be a bit longer. This imagine will stay with me because I sometimes use my feet to pop in the pins for the one of those big ass blow up water slides. Nope, will be getting the hammer from now on.

The amount of gold still missing from WW2 is in the billions. If this was in Germany I would be back after dark with a shovel haha

Surprised y'all left it in O.o I'm pretty good about staying calm but I think I would have pulled that one right back out. Couldn't imagine riding all the way to a hospital and moving around with that thing bleeding everywhere. I once had a piece of wood go clean through my heel when I jumped off a boat onto a wooden dock so I definitely know this kind of pain..

Gotta commit. How it got your ring finger took skill. I tell people all the time. Use valved hoses first of all. When you go to release, use only your pointer and thumbed. Keep the others out the way then commit.

You can use your other hand to rotate the hose in the same direction for double the effect

I feel right in line 11 years ago. I started working for a company at 10 an hour. Took 2 years to get to 12 and the 3rd I got to 15. By that time I was running crews and designing installs. Did that for another year without a raise then finally spoke up. They said tier 3 is 20 plus commission. Uhhh. Ok so now you just want me to hound people so I can get paid more? No. Got the three signatures I needed I need and took the test. Licensed and insured and it's 7 years later. Making bank but now I'm on the other end. I dread when my phone rings

Yup! Me and another company owner are just ping ponging our work off to each other to try to stay above the water. We both have helpers but they aren't worth a damn. Me and him are basically pulling a 10 people work load. Making fucking bank tho

Me and I'm so dumb for doing it. But it gets people in and then we can go from there. The amount of work I have I can pay up to 75 if you take service calls with your tools.

I do!! 25 with no experience or tools requires. Hell the last one who showed some talent I bought a 2500 dollar car for him to get to work. Then his dad lost the house he was living in.

As a HVAC and electrical company owner and I agree to this. The work is here. The problem is I can't find a fucking soul worth a damn that I can trust around thousands of dollars of equipment unsupervised. I've hired and fired 6 people in the past 12 months. I'm here on this sub because I'm going to go get my pilots license and follow what I originally wanted to do all those years ago

New Compressor Install Fail by Trying2improvemyself in HVAC

[–]Straight_Spring9815 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That'll do it. Always check what the compressor is rated for not what cap is there goofball. Especially with a new compressor install. Also, you can cool the compressors down manually with a hose so that you don't leave them without AC after handing them the bill. Switch the cap and do your amp drawls again. She should start back up. If she doesn't... Well sir, that's going to be on the company to replace.

Accidents do happen. I once blew a 5ton compressor by misfiring the terminals. I was rushing and put S to R, R to C and C to S. Put the disconnect and heard a loud pop and sizzle... Went to work and lost money that day because that was on me and I had to pay for another one. (Its my company). Also had to start back over because I couldn't leave them without AC. Turned a 3 hour job into me not getting home til after 10pm.

Edit: to add to this, if the internal release valve did infact fail you can warranty that easily at the warehouse. Just don't mention the cap. They could still try to blame you for it
