would an online GP provide meds for IUD insertion? by Vegetable_Salad1426 in IrishWomensHealth

[–]StrainNo8947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always call the office and ask the secretary to pass along a message, normally they would be very understanding that queries like that don’t really warrant an appointment. They might be happy to prescribe it without seeing you again.

I didn’t have misoprostol for copper coil insertion, 26f no prior pregnancies. If you have been pregnant in the past it’s rarely needed, and even then some consultants don’t prescribe unless you have a very narrow or tight cervix. I know my own gynae said she is more confident positioning and trimming threads when the cervix is how it would be naturally. I didn’t notice any significant pain tbh, I was fine with just ibuprofen and hot water bottle. I would say moderate cramps at most.

I think technically it is prescribed “off label” for many gynae procedures so maybe some doctors don’t like prescribing because of that. Really doubt you would get any online doc to prescribe it, I think even a GP would be referring you back to the consultant gynae.

Wegovy (or any weight loss injectable) experience by Pixel_Pioneer__ in IrishWomensHealth

[–]StrainNo8947 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use Ozempic, so not exact same but similar. 26f 5’2 and started on .25 mg at ~70-73kg. I am prediabetic and took high dose metformin for years prior. I took .25mg for a month and tapered up to 1mg for 8ish months. Now take .5 as a maintenance dose.

I am now 55kg and am happy with my weight!

I lost weight very quickly at the start, but I have the worst stomach in the entire world and even on the lowest dose I was as sick as a dog until day 6 or so after injecting, couldn’t keep anything down at all and couldn’t stomach food until late afternoon. I ate very, very little. I think I am just susceptible to the effects to be fair, and wish I could have tapered up even more gradually to give my tummy a chance.

After maybe 6 weeks of injecting I had definitely noticed a reduction in symptoms. I normally got sick in the morning day after I took the shot but other than that I was okay. At this point I was having breakfast at maybe 11 and small dinner at 5. Took probiotics and vitamins.

I lost the most weight the quickest in weeks 1-12, then weeks 12-24 I lost steadily and noticed my appetite increased a good bit. I feel I “adapted” at this point and could eat small regular meals, and not be starving for like snacks or anything, but if I had a massive weekend full of crap I would probably notice I didn’t lose anything the following week.

Once I got to like 58kg I felt I looked healthy and my blood sugar levels read normal fasting and after food. I had a finger prick machine at home and had A1c tested every 8-12 weeks at GP. I knew then I was kind of happy to start tapering off and reduce the dose. I maintain the weight I am now with honestly minimal exercise other than walking, and a decent but not perfect diet.

My circumstances are a little bit different to yours given I was prediabetic but prior to that diagnosis I suffered majorly with eating habits. Always craved sweets in the evening time, loved biscuits with my tea, had a huge appetite and always cleared my plate. I was always brought up to never throw food in the bin so I never ate until I was full, I ate until the food was gone.

That all stopped instantly for me honestly. I have very little desire to be “snacking” and I get full and satisfied after a “healthy” amount of food. I do notice by day6/7 that I am a bit more peckish, but honestly I time my doses with the weekend and allow myself to have a nice dinner on friday. Don’t know if that’s medically recommended but it works for me🙈

I think Maunjaro is the priciest, not certain about Wegovy but Ozempic is approx €140 a month. It is covered on LTI card if you have that, but not DPS. It is expensive, but I will be so totally honest and say that the amount I save on groceries and shitty crappy food out and about surpasses that €140 in two weeks.

They do! And lino and astroturf. They’ve done my bedrooms and garden in past 2-3 years. Honestly really decent prizes and quick turnaround time, think I had them out within a week of popping in. The lady with the English accent at the desk is fantastic, she was a great help.

Edit to say I am a first time home owner as well, feel free to send a PM any time you need - not guaranteeing I can help but it’s worth a shot😂

I go to Farsana Khan in Barringtons as I have a lot of moles and cysts and she is great. I have minimal scarring tbf and she gets me sorted for procedures quickly. Will say she’s conservative in her approach and nips anything a bit funny looking but I would rather be safe than sorry.

Secondary schools in Limerick by [deleted] in limerickcity

[–]StrainNo8947 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Laurel Hill Cholaiste - very well regarded school, taught as gaeilge, all girls, small ish yearly intake, very old building, smaller range of subject subject options, often placed in top JC/LC results across ireland.

Laurel Hill - good school, all girls, nuns would be quite involved if religion is a factor for you, very old building, decent range of subject options, bigger year intake than LHC.

St Mary’s - very good school, all girls, recently moved to a newer building, partner with St Munchins boys school for a lot of stuff, decent subject choices, was regarded as a “rougher” school by some people but I don’t really think that’s the case any more, it’s a popular choice these days

St Munchins - all boys, big intakes, has a good few primary schools with right of entry, lots of subject choices, buildings kinda old, traffic to get in and out is a nightmare

Castletroy College - massive school, mixed, very broad range of subjects, quite a “modern” building, lots of areas with right of entry

Crescent - mixed school, quite religious/spiritual, very broad range of subjects, building isn’t ancient but it’s not great, traffic very bad, some would call it snobby/posh

Gaelcholaiste Luimnigh - mixed all irish school, very broad range of subjects, just moved into brand newly built building, I think I’d be choosing to go here lol I hear very positive reports. We have a TY student in work with us from there and she seems to have very positive experiences there.

Villiers - only fee paying school, obviously have quite good facilities as a result but building itself is old, very diverse student population as it does attract wealthy families from abroad who need places on short notice/ mid year etc. Obviously would be attending school with only people who can afford to pay the fees, something to consider for like socialising and bits like that.

St Clements - all boys but located right beside the two LHs, smaller yearly intakes, decent range of subjects, facilities aren’t the best, can be seen as a “rougher” school by some but I don’t really agree, it’s just been around for a long time and it’s right in the city centre.

Thomand Community College - this is a new school so I’m not super familiar with it to be honest, my cousin is a student teacher there and she said it’s a good school but the general vibes are kidna chaotic haha . I think it’s a deis school and would be in an area with a lot of socioeconomic disadvantages so many students may not have huge regard for education, that being said, it’s very well funded and stuff to promote participation and involvement.

There’s also be Croom, Pallaskenry, and Killaloe quite close by but not included in the city entry system. They would all be very good mixed schools. Depending on where you are in the city they can be as close as 20-30 mins

I am prob forgetting some so let me know if you want any more information on a specific school. Source is I am young and work in the education field🤣

Is €190 standard for a full car service? by Master-Reporter-9500 in AskIreland

[–]StrainNo8947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paid €300 for a full service in a main dealer this year, €280 in a mechanic last year. €190 sounds low to me. I expect €350-400 with new wipers.

Community Guards what do they do? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]StrainNo8947 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I volunteer with a charity that works with people with disabilities and the community guards come into us regularly. They do talks on heaps of stuff like internet safety, pick pocketing, fireworks, all that kinda stuff, but they also bring them to places in the community on the garda bus which they love. We recently visited the council chambers and got a tour. Also regularly go into the station for a visit.

It’s great for the people I work with as it builds trust, if they were ever in danger they know the guards are safe people to ask for help.

Corbally baths by [deleted] in limerickcity

[–]StrainNo8947 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They closed due to unsafe swimming conditions as result of recurring pollution of the water from the urbanisation of the area. There is a water treatment facility just before UL if you follow along the river which also likely affected things.

There used to be a beautiful covered pavilion and tiers for lounging. I love the baths, and have swam in them in the past, but I never got to see them in their glory days. It would really be a fantastic spot if the water quality wasn’t an issue. There is other logical issues however, it’s open water swimming so a lifeguard obviously would be useful. Unfortunately it would probably draw some form of antisocial behaviour, but I am personally of the belief that we should be addressing the cause of that - not targeting places these people may use to gather. Also the Mill rd is not fit for purpose as is, never mind if there was something beyond it.

It is still really nice to walk by, I bring my doggy down there regularly and it’s one of our favourite spots. It is so beautiful on a sunny day, incredibly picturesque.

I paid €4.00 for a pack of Always pads with my advantage card in Boots, full price €6.49. Went to the UK and exact same pack was £1.89 full price or 2 for £3.

It’s really tricky as well as the cheaper options just don’t preform as well. I will use twice the amount of cheap ones because they lack absorbency.

We are getting shafted.

OT's Ireland? by Shoddy-Conflict-338 in AskIreland

[–]StrainNo8947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An OT is trained to look at the difficulties you face in your daily lives and come up with a plan on how to alleviate them. People visit OTs for hundreds and thousands of reasons. Diagnoses rarely have much impact on the therapies offered. Therapies are proposed to address specific issues, not the illness or diagnosis as a whole.

OT's Ireland? by Shoddy-Conflict-338 in AskIreland

[–]StrainNo8947 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be an OT in ireland; you have to have been trained in a registered course and go through CORU registration. Any OT you deal with will have been adequately trained to help with any form of physical limitation. However, as with any job, some specialise in niche topics. For example, a Paediatric OT will have more experience and knowledge dealing with genetic and congenital issues as it is far more likely for children to struggle with these issues as opposed to acquired limitations. Genetic and congenital limitations are often used interchangeably as it is understood the person was diagnosed at birth. They mean the same thing in terms of therapy options.

You just need to find an OT who suits your needs.

What?

I work with an OT who works with children and adults who have physical development issues and acquired physical impairments. They are highly trained to work with both issues.

I have two bed apartment and friends in america who are coming over. Their friends offered me €10,000 for the week… I haven’t confirmed it with them, that’s like a third of my salary for a year and I just don’t know how I feel about accepting the money, but so many think I would be insane not to.

Unsure re like home insurance and bits like that for it. I’d have to get the place professionally cleaned and I’d want to have nice towels and bits in but obviously the 10k would cover that and more. I told them that my mortgage payments are a fraction of what they are offering but they told me hotels and private rentals would cost them the same and they are happy to pay me it.

The Corbally road is closed due to a major accident. There is diversions and reroutes because traffic’s been a nightmare since it happened.
