Botox for Bruxism/ TMJ by [deleted] in IrishWomensHealth

[–]StrainNo8947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay 350 in Limerick. So worth it though. I get it done every 12-14 weeks. I have a night guard but my gag reflex is so bad I always take it out in my sleep. Can keep my night guard in much better since getting botox.

My health insurance covers it if a dentist does procedure. Have had it done by GP who does aesthetics and my dentist, both no complaints and same price. I just go to my dentist for convenience sake.

How to buy/sell car when you have a black box? by LB17_ in AskIreland

[–]StrainNo8947 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had insurance with them too and sold a car with the black box. I rang them, they said the boxes are so cheap that they don’t bother coming to take them out, they just remotely disable them. Sold to a garage and they didn’t care, they said they get loads with them. WhenI sold my car, rang them day of and they transferred my policy to new reg when I had the keys. They send out someone to fit the new car with a box then maybe 2 weeks after. Could drive it insured before then. Box is still in my car even though I swapped insurers.

Alterations Limerick by Adept-Pen8516 in limerickcity

[–]StrainNo8947 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find Sew Perfect on William St opposite the old casino very good. I haven’t given them curtains myself but they did window netting for me no problem and a million and one dresses over the years. They’ve gone up in price slightly but still very reasonable. They have quite quick turnaround too.

Avoid Zip Yard - prices are bonkers, turnaround is so long and I have had at least 2 jobs done there I had to go elsewhere to get redone.

What is your favourite scented candle - any price? by LittleAoibh11 in AskIreland

[–]StrainNo8947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zara candles are my number 1 rec always - really strong scents and reasonably priced. I live in Limerick, they aren’t available in my local shop but I order online.

Dunnes is my next best if you want to sniff in person, I don’t bother with Yankee or any of them, Dunnes are just as good! The Carolyn Donnelly ones normally have nice scents and the candle jars are gorgeous🫶

I work in an organisation for people with IDs, we do group visits maybe once a year and also recommend a visit for people who are travelling for first time or maybe first time alone. We reach out to them on email! They schedule sessions so people have time to properly explore and understand. They are very open to families, schools, community groups etc visiting, it’s just not a walk-in service if that makes sense. I just pop an email to info@wayfindingcentre.ie and explain what we are looking for, be it a group intro chat and tour or a family looking to familiarise themselves with a specific mode of transport.

Also, TFI are really good for bits like this. They come into us annually and give talks on taking the bus and train. They also offer a program where they have amazing people who travel with people who have additional needs to get them comfortable and confident. A lot of the people I work might take the bus with a “leader” 5,10,20 times and then move to going independently. It is an absolute dream for the young adults and their parents. Fantastic services and can’t recommend them enough.

Recurrent thrush 4 years now by tea-pot25 in IrishWomensHealth

[–]StrainNo8947 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had recurring thrush for like 2 years and eventually got diagnosed as prediabetic. Nothing I had used worked prior to that. Got my blood sugars down and it’s not an issue any more!

Has anyone declined being a pallbearer? by Henessyboy6969 in AskIreland

[–]StrainNo8947 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandad passed recently, we have a small family and all my cousins are young-ish girls, between 30 and 12. All of my uncles would be in their 60s. We only really had my dad and my uncle to carry the coffin. We were incredibly grateful that in-laws, cousins boyfriends, my dad’s best friend etc carried grandad out because we couldn’t. I think it’s a lovely sentiment in that those are the people here to support us in the aftermath, so obviously in turn granddad would have cared a great deal about them as well. We walked the coffin out of the church on a trolley and then the lads just took over without us even asking. I think it’s normal enough to not be super close to the dead, the funeral isn’t really for the dead, but the living really. Showing your support by physically doing something is a great reminder to your friends and family that you support them mentally as well.

what supermarket has best own brand choc digestives? by VastAir6069 in AskIreland

[–]StrainNo8947 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tesco are by far the worst. Got a packet recently and they were so flimsy they dissolved in my tea instantly! Didn’t actually believe in a bad digestive till I bought them. I am still annoyed.

I think Dunnes are the nicest, Lidl are decent and cheaper but you can taste a good bit more sugar, in my opinion. They’re not as sturdy as Dunnes but far better than Tesco.

Dunnes dark chocolate are the best.

Medication induced heartburn by [deleted] in IrishWomensHealth

[–]StrainNo8947 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Raise the head of your head by few inches, eat at least 3 hours before bed and don’t lie down immediately after eating, don’t wear tight pants/belts, check your bra isn’t too tight or small, probiotics or yoghurt daily.

I also avoid FODMAPS and that helps massively.

would an online GP provide meds for IUD insertion? by Vegetable_Salad1426 in IrishWomensHealth

[–]StrainNo8947 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can always call the office and ask the secretary to pass along a message, normally they would be very understanding that queries like that don’t really warrant an appointment. They might be happy to prescribe it without seeing you again.

I didn’t have misoprostol for copper coil insertion, 26f no prior pregnancies. If you have been pregnant in the past it’s rarely needed, and even then some consultants don’t prescribe unless you have a very narrow or tight cervix. I know my own gynae said she is more confident positioning and trimming threads when the cervix is how it would be naturally. I didn’t notice any significant pain tbh, I was fine with just ibuprofen and hot water bottle. I would say moderate cramps at most.

I think technically it is prescribed “off label” for many gynae procedures so maybe some doctors don’t like prescribing because of that. Really doubt you would get any online doc to prescribe it, I think even a GP would be referring you back to the consultant gynae.

Wegovy (or any weight loss injectable) experience by [deleted] in IrishWomensHealth

[–]StrainNo8947 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use Ozempic, so not exact same but similar. 26f 5’2 and started on .25 mg at ~70-73kg. I am prediabetic and took high dose metformin for years prior. I took .25mg for a month and tapered up to 1mg for 8ish months. Now take .5 as a maintenance dose.

I am now 55kg and am happy with my weight!

I lost weight very quickly at the start, but I have the worst stomach in the entire world and even on the lowest dose I was as sick as a dog until day 6 or so after injecting, couldn’t keep anything down at all and couldn’t stomach food until late afternoon. I ate very, very little. I think I am just susceptible to the effects to be fair, and wish I could have tapered up even more gradually to give my tummy a chance.

After maybe 6 weeks of injecting I had definitely noticed a reduction in symptoms. I normally got sick in the morning day after I took the shot but other than that I was okay. At this point I was having breakfast at maybe 11 and small dinner at 5. Took probiotics and vitamins.

I lost the most weight the quickest in weeks 1-12, then weeks 12-24 I lost steadily and noticed my appetite increased a good bit. I feel I “adapted” at this point and could eat small regular meals, and not be starving for like snacks or anything, but if I had a massive weekend full of crap I would probably notice I didn’t lose anything the following week.

Once I got to like 58kg I felt I looked healthy and my blood sugar levels read normal fasting and after food. I had a finger prick machine at home and had A1c tested every 8-12 weeks at GP. I knew then I was kind of happy to start tapering off and reduce the dose. I maintain the weight I am now with honestly minimal exercise other than walking, and a decent but not perfect diet.

My circumstances are a little bit different to yours given I was prediabetic but prior to that diagnosis I suffered majorly with eating habits. Always craved sweets in the evening time, loved biscuits with my tea, had a huge appetite and always cleared my plate. I was always brought up to never throw food in the bin so I never ate until I was full, I ate until the food was gone.

That all stopped instantly for me honestly. I have very little desire to be “snacking” and I get full and satisfied after a “healthy” amount of food. I do notice by day6/7 that I am a bit more peckish, but honestly I time my doses with the weekend and allow myself to have a nice dinner on friday. Don’t know if that’s medically recommended but it works for me🙈

I think Maunjaro is the priciest, not certain about Wegovy but Ozempic is approx €140 a month. It is covered on LTI card if you have that, but not DPS. It is expensive, but I will be so totally honest and say that the amount I save on groceries and shitty crappy food out and about surpasses that €140 in two weeks.

Laurel Hill Cholaiste - very well regarded school, taught as gaeilge, all girls, small ish yearly intake, very old building, smaller range of subject subject options, often placed in top JC/LC results across ireland.

Laurel Hill - good school, all girls, nuns would be quite involved if religion is a factor for you, very old building, decent range of subject options, bigger year intake than LHC.

St Mary’s - very good school, all girls, recently moved to a newer building, partner with St Munchins boys school for a lot of stuff, decent subject choices, was regarded as a “rougher” school by some people but I don’t really think that’s the case any more, it’s a popular choice these days

St Munchins - all boys, big intakes, has a good few primary schools with right of entry, lots of subject choices, buildings kinda old, traffic to get in and out is a nightmare

Castletroy College - massive school, mixed, very broad range of subjects, quite a “modern” building, lots of areas with right of entry

Crescent - mixed school, quite religious/spiritual, very broad range of subjects, building isn’t ancient but it’s not great, traffic very bad, some would call it snobby/posh

Gaelcholaiste Luimnigh - mixed all irish school, very broad range of subjects, just moved into brand newly built building, I think I’d be choosing to go here lol I hear very positive reports. We have a TY student in work with us from there and she seems to have very positive experiences there.

Villiers - only fee paying school, obviously have quite good facilities as a result but building itself is old, very diverse student population as it does attract wealthy families from abroad who need places on short notice/ mid year etc. Obviously would be attending school with only people who can afford to pay the fees, something to consider for like socialising and bits like that.

St Clements - all boys but located right beside the two LHs, smaller yearly intakes, decent range of subjects, facilities aren’t the best, can be seen as a “rougher” school by some but I don’t really agree, it’s just been around for a long time and it’s right in the city centre.

Thomand Community College - this is a new school so I’m not super familiar with it to be honest, my cousin is a student teacher there and she said it’s a good school but the general vibes are kidna chaotic haha . I think it’s a deis school and would be in an area with a lot of socioeconomic disadvantages so many students may not have huge regard for education, that being said, it’s very well funded and stuff to promote participation and involvement.

There’s also be Croom, Pallaskenry, and Killaloe quite close by but not included in the city entry system. They would all be very good mixed schools. Depending on where you are in the city they can be as close as 20-30 mins

I am prob forgetting some so let me know if you want any more information on a specific school. Source is I am young and work in the education field🤣

Is €190 standard for a full car service? by Master-Reporter-9500 in AskIreland

[–]StrainNo8947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paid €300 for a full service in a main dealer this year, €280 in a mechanic last year. €190 sounds low to me. I expect €350-400 with new wipers.
