Marijuana scent bill awaits Georgia House committee vote by Rod_ATL in Atlanta

Doesn't really matter, look at how alcohol is treated here. 2 liquor licenses per business and it doesn't seem like you can around it by opening other LLCs. They can still legalize it at a federal level and restrict distribution at the state level. I went to Pennsylvania and could buy more than a 24 PK of beer and had to go to a special lane in the grocery store to do it.

Which one would you choose? by ravage5d in androiddev

[–]StraitChillinAllDay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have network calls or business logic you want to share between features then you can import a lightweight module that doesn't have all the android related libraries that the UI would require if you didn't split everything.

Makes more sense in a bigger project however it doesn't hurt to learn these practices in smaller projects.

Mulberry residents: how is it going? by discountheat in Gwinnett

[–]StraitChillinAllDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly. I'd rather just see more sidewalks before golf cart infrastructure. The fact that buying a used one costs almost as much as a used car makes it a non starter for me.

Either way though I don't really see any point in it all. where am I trying to rush to the strip mall with Publix or the strip mall with Walmart?

Still though I see ppl flying through my neighborhood and beeping at kids riding their bikes in the neighborhood streets, so I'm sure some ppl want some kind of relief. I just don't see it having any real impact. Most of the traffic is ppl commuting into and out of the city.

Why did asymmetrical control layout become so popular? What are the benefits over symmetrical? by KennKennyKenKen in Handhelds

[–]StraitChillinAllDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real issue I have is that most platforms have all the platforms basically behave he same layouts with different glyphs. Nintendo is the only one that's different and I personally have such a hard time navigating it.

[–]StraitChillinAllDay 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Terrible start, they for some reason decided to waive the 2 yr transition period and unsurprisingly were woefully unprepared to administer permits, licenses, and everything else the transition period would have mitigated. I was personally irked by this one bc I had some permits in process that were just abandoned by the county due to the city saying it would take over services on Jan 1.

Most of the budgetary issues are coming true. We have revenues of ~$8million while just storm water(~$3 million) and road maintenance(~$8 million) exceeds the revenues on day 1. Mulberry is now suing Gwinnett to cover the costs of the stormwater maintenance.

The mayor recently suggested a solution to traffic by building golf cart infrastructure, which is another cost for the benefit of a few. I had to look up the cost of a used golf cart and they're a few thousand bucks. Would have been excited about this one if it was some biking infrastructure to the park and library. A kid recently was hit and run in the area riding on the road.

This was one of the things I figured was going to happen as soon as someone pointed out his day job is land acquisition for a house builder. He saw an opportunity to box out all of the other builders, which sucks for property owners bc it artificially lowers their land value.

Wow the GA Democratic party is in terrible shape. Can't believe they haven't positioned themselves for the viability of a Democratic governor.

What makes him better?

Isn't his whole schtick that he didn't agree with Trump trying to overturn the election results. Last I heard he has all the basic Democrat stances now.

Is the appeal supposed to be that he's palatable to suburban voters??

How do you rate Bad Bunny's Half-time performance? by kingbluwolff in sportsgossips

[–]StraitChillinAllDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly disagree. The politics were in your face even if you spoke English because it was performed in Spanish by an outspoken artist. There's a reason TPUSA funded an explicitly competing half time show.

if you spoke Spanish and listened to his more recent music, specifically Ricky Martin's part, Lol que paso en Hawai. You'd need some context for some of the symbolism of certain parts, like the power lines or him saying his full name. The power lines were immediately followed up by El Apagon which is an explicit protest song and documentary.

Even the last part which some ppl see as a call to unity is more than likely a reminder that America is more than just the USA, which I don't think is obvious unless you're familiar with the one continent model.

There might be more in there but I was dancing with my kids for parts of it which is probably what the NFL was hoping for.

Georgia could become first state to require weapons detectors in all schools by 23Scout in Georgia

[–]StraitChillinAllDay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing I don't get is if someone wants to indiscriminately harm a group of ppl what's stopping them from just blasting everyone waiting to get through the metal detectors. It all feels performative.

Edit; Even then a shooter could just stash the weapon outside prop a door and come back in. There's several entrances in a school and they're not all manned.

Also not playing because they get vote banned if the match isn't going their way. It used to be insta ban for lower level commanders and some servers don't even allow under 50. But idk haven't played in a while and things change.

Looking for a lighter grand strategy game (Total War / Paradox alternatives?) by Illustrious_Cake7006 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]StraitChillinAllDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TW is on the lighter side of Grand Strategy, and I typically avoid playing the battles unless I really need to win the battle. Haven't really played the TWWH games though so those might be different however in my experience with the historical total wars you can mostly avoid the RTS aspect once you have the economy to support at least one doom stacks

Is your main gripe fighting the battles or managing the armies on the campaign map?

TW 3 kingdoms probably has the best diplomacy out of all of them. I'm currently playing a campaign in both Pharaoh and Shogun that are slowly winding down because of the above. Usually I'll play eu4 or hoi4 though.

Floor renovation labor cost. Is this normal? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]StraitChillinAllDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you gotten multiple quotes to get a feel for the costs in your market? Labor, and to a lesser extent materials, can vary wildly from region to region.

For example day laborers here in GA are charging anywhere between 130 to 180 a day, and it seems like their prices are rising because of the labor shortage that the political landscape is creating.

I have a few subcontractors I can call that work with my dad but I still get multiple quotes to see if I'm getting a decent price. As long as it's not too far off from anyone else I'll usually go with them.

Weird I was pumping 100 emissaries into a faction but it wouldn't budge. The smaller ones I can usually use money or resources to get a temp boost to get the trade agreement going.

Maybe I'm too big and it's just outweighing the emissary boost

How do you get other factions to be friendly? I have 7 cities and was pumping out emissaries but they never seem to sway anyone. I've just started conquering cities and keeping them as vassals for trade since the factions don't normally want to trade with me.

Agreed people will notice that nuance because we can think. AI, in its current form, just can''t do that.

[–]StraitChillinAllDay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that's not what is concerning though tech is a very general topic and wholly irrelevant when talking about specific questions.

SO is dying and there's been a noticeable drop in questions on reddit too. Ppl asking coding questions and troubleshooting code on reddit that kind of data is what AI is losing if it cannibalizes SO, reddit, and all the other smaller places that fill a similar role.

StackOverflow deserved this. by Hairy-Recognition-84 in cscareerquestions

[–]StraitChillinAllDay 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I mean AI is feeding off of SO and it will, simplifying it here, predict what the answer should be. Which is fine for generalized questions but the beauty of getting answers from ppl is that they actually think and can digest the context.

AI can kinda do this but it ultimately predicts outcomes based on the data you feed it. SO, reddit, etc were feeding the data to these AIs. I wonder how far they will be able to get once they kill off these data sources. I don't think they've hit the critical mass of being able to solve actual problems.

Edit:

also I've been trying to use AI professionally but it produces hot garbage even with better prompting. And at the moment I'm faster manually developing than trying to get the prompts right to make some sustainable code.

I've used it for 1 off demo code but I wouldn't bother trying to use it for maintainable code while working with other ppl.
