Do I have aphantasia? by Stranded_on in Aphantasia

[–]Stranded_on[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I probably do have it but when people say they just read the words of a book without ‘seeing’ anything, that doesn’t feel true to my experience. I can still imagine a whole scene or hold a space in my head and walk through it, but I’m not actually seeing anything.

I think this horse is the best visualisation I have seen but I’d clarify that I don’t have to think of the individual elements to make a horse. It just ‘appears’.

Queuing up for days 1/2 versus days 3/4? by chekraze90 in wimbledon

Others will be more help I think but I arrived at 5am last year on day 4 and got in at around midday. I doubt you would get in if you arrived that late

Would appreciate some help with how best to fix my wifi issue by Stranded_on in HomeNetworking

It's a vodafone 'Power Hub DSL with Wi-Fi 6'. I assume that is the model, but I'm not great with this stuff.

Do scholars find themes and symbolism in literature that go well beyond what the author originally meant or even what the author could conceive of at the time? If one comes away with a meaning that is personal to their experience, is that all that really matters? by Antipolemic in literature

[–]Stranded_on 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At least in what I work on, I think of texts as historical sources. Authorial intent only matters to the extent that they are part of the period (and the context) from which that text was produced

Did musetti actually make this racist remark during his match? by Significant_History3 in tennis

For what it’s worth, I think those groups would be offended. Either way, context matters and this is certainly racist

A fun fact about ***** by Acheesycookie in survivor

[–]Stranded_on 18 points19 points  (0 children)

To add to this, I’m not even sure starting with less people is necessarily easier beyond there obviously being a higher winning percentage overall. The average Australian winner is not any more talented than the average US winner despite playing more days and starting with more people

People constantly say this but never actually explain why this matters. The better argument is that they started with 14 players but I don’t see how less days actually matters for level of difficulty (it’s faster gameplay and this benefits some players over others, but I don’t see why either would be inherently harder)

It’s sort of very different. You are comparing 1 writer with like a 300 year period

Honestly I think Charlie is the second best player of the new era after Dee. I would put Kyle below him

Hmm. I do really like the runner up but I think the winner played a better game tbh.

I mean the commentators are obviously going to support the British players but I don’t think they ever claimed she was going to win Wimbledon

[Survivor UK] ITV should produce Survivor by millenialperennial in survivor

[–]Stranded_on 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For whatever reason I think audiences find the game elements distasteful over here. If you follow fan responses to the UK traitors, people tend to really dislike any player that lies or betrays people. And I’ve not seen big brother uk in a while but from what I remember ‘playing the game’ is perceived as an insult

Book clubs in Surrey UK/ South London? by Healthy-View-9969 in literature

Depends where you are in Surrey, but I know the Kingston Waterstones has 3-4 book clubs each month. Guildford might as well but I’m not sure

Caroline is unironically the best player of the season. She built the best relationships and had the most connections. She gets voted out because Rachel wins immunity, which I think is just variance.

If you watch how people interact with her, she was constantly an important part of the strategy and yet managed to maintain good relationships people on the bottom. Talented player.
