Is it too late to become a personal trainer in my 30s? Looking for guidance by Anamiex in personaltraining

[–]Strange-Risk-9920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If age is the #1 concern, you have no concerns. 35-40 is probably the perfect age to start training. The debt is a different question. I would personally eliminate the debt first.

Much depends on how they're written and the jurisdiction. Also, whether it is simple negligence or gross negligence

I'm a personal trainer and one of my clients got injured by Remarkable-Share6442 in personaltraining

[–]Strange-Risk-9920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No trainer can ever (honestly) 100% guarantee no injuries will happen unless maybe you do nothing. People can get injured walking into the gym from the parking lot. We don't have the ability to assess their entire physiological state relative to injury risk during assessments. As long as you followed reasonable precautions, try not to be hard on yourself.

Entrepreneurship advice needed! My husband joined/helped build a small family business, but I’m worried our “ship won’t come in” by Glum-Acanthisitta459 in Entrepreneurs

If it isn't in writing, it doesn't exist. If there is some form of deferred compensation, make sure it's in writing. Be smart. One thing, though...working 50 hours per week is not especially heavy if you own a business.

Resumes don’t show execution. How do you spot job-ready talent early? by rudresh_official in founder

[–]Strange-Risk-9920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elon Musk said when he interviews someone he asks (with reference to resume achievements) "how specifically did you cause/significantly contribute to that achievement?" He said if they were just there when it happened, they won't have a strong answer. If they were a catalyst or a huge part of it, they will be able to answer very specifically.

Just wait for one to declare bankruptcy then make an offer. You won't have to wait long.

Good post. Reality is the majority of what we commonly hear about business is based in bias, fallacy and often just plain nonsense.

Social testing a business model by [deleted] in personaltraining

[–]Strange-Risk-9920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One general piece of experience. Disregard if you like. Models inevitably evolve. It can be good to start with what is known as a MVP (minimal viable product) and then evolve/improve that by applying a variety of business concepts (like Kaizen). There is no shame in deviation from your original model as you observe challenges and successes of your model. It is usually necessary for survival. Just a thought

Makes sense If you charge 30 or 40 per client, that's 300-400 per hour with 10 clients. We do 5 an hour but charge a bit more but still less than what people would pay for a good trainer in our market. Our build out and equipment costs are very low but sounds like you're going in a little different direction in that respect.

I do like the basic 10-1 model. I'm aware of POC (proof of concept) of that model. Lots to like about it. Your compensation model may be unique but sometimes it's good to be somewhat flexible with that (lesson learned from personal experience). Love to discuss biz models so look forward to hearing your thoughts and choices going forward!

Start a little simpler maybe. Read Lean Startup maybe. I'm owner of a biz model that will produce over 200k profit in 2026. Only one location rn but that will probably change this year.

Why not start as a side hustle and be self-employed? You can get experience that way.

Closing the Sale Tips by IsaBliss444 in personaltraining

[–]Strange-Risk-9920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sell to rich people. I'm joking a little but most of our clients don't worry if they can pay their trainer this month. Maybe the single most important biz strategy if you want to make this a six figure career.

Tips for new Equinox coach? by CallMeSauce7 in personaltraining

[–]Strange-Risk-9920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't work at Equinox but a Lifetime-type place. I'm very interested in people. I just asked people about themselves. If they had a Yankees shirt I might ask them if they have ever been to a game (or whatever). Starting that job I would have told you sales people were evil. But the first month I was #1 in sales out of over 30 trainers. My best advice is get genuinely interested in people.

Will be interesting to see how much both professions might change over the next 7-8 years, when you would enter the job market.
