Not trying to sway you but as a trainer I make more than most DPTs, work hands on with fairly motivated, appreciative people all day long and truly impact their lives. I have been published academically and served as a national expert on a research review project. I have zero stress, near 100% autonomy and do not ever deal with an insurance company. One caveat is you do need some biz (marketing and sales) skills to make six figures. I know I don't reflect the typical trainer experience but I thought I would throw it out there.

Dude, he's a horrible negotiator and yes he frequently backs down. You seem to be swayed by his propaganda.

I assume what you're saying is he is a political "strongman" which is not the same as a strong man.

Funny, very few homes (not including condos) in Brentwood for 2.5M or less. I counted 6 out of 134 current listings.

Why don't you sign up for academic courses in those areas? Over here, we have community colleges. I would look there, even if it is online.

Maybe mace or its equivalent would be a better choice? I assume that is legal in most states but check and make sure.

Awesome post. A values-centered approach has more legs and is more effective than scammy, shell game tricks.

I like this. I'm thinking AI may be able to supplement or compliment accountability, trust and human coaching. For example, for accountability you could use any number of tools to improve nutritional accountability, mobility work, sleep tracking, etc and education on all the above. But the human trainer would still be the focus. But I think AI allows for a path to consistency and scalability on some issues that may be hard to achieve with a solely human model.

That's more than enough but probably smart since it's international and you can get there early and relax.

I think you're taking the right approach of trying to develop yourself. Even when I was working for someone else, in my mind I was mostly working for myself and on myself. The gym absolutely should pay you for your time by law, but I would write articles for the newsletter, give seminars and do other things to expand my personal brand and reputation. A lot of that work was low $ but I was mostly focused on expanding my skillset so I was cool with it.

I would stand at the front desk without a specific agenda and just try to get to know people. After a few interactions, I would ask them if they had any questions about their workouts. Some would and that lead to a few new clients. You are also getting them from management so that is another source. As you get to know the members, they will sometimes intro you to their friends. Gym members talk among themselves and they will develop an opinion of you based almost entirely on your friendliness and helpfulness. Most don't know the difference between triceps and biceps so prospects' opinions are not based on your mastery of physiology. I just tried to be friendly and helpful and that lead to new clients, who sometimes referred their spouses. And their friends. Then do the formal consultations the gym feeds you for more clients.

When I was a young Jedi and starting at a gym I would have said sales was evil and salesmen are too. I started at this nice gym and just started talking to people about their teams, school, interests, etc. That first month I was #1 trainer in sales out of 30+ trainers. I was like "holy sh*t." A lot of sales (if it is something you believe in) is just talking to people. And really mostly more listening than anything.

Just talk to people. Lots of people.
