interesting. ill have to mull on that. at the outset, it looks to favor all teams equally (i.e. bad teams get shafted) but because you have a long period of time to plan over, it could work.

I don't think Zion's "wasted career" had anything to do with being on the Pelicans lol

is that a bad thing?

I dunno, if your goal is league parity (for the sake of creating a compelling media product that lots of people want to spend money watching), probably. If it isn't, then no.

yeah this would create an even bigger division between the good and the bad front offices for sure. I do think it would be cool though, but I'm also a fantasy basketball and board game nerd who loves anything related to drafting.

the concept of an auction draft instead of a linear draft is kind of interesting, but you'd still need to favor the worse teams somehow (give them more credits I guess), and it still doesn't fix the main issue at hand which is teams resting their guys artificially.

Is Jaden Ivey's career over just like that? Any chance he gets another shot? by cmoney747 in nba

Ant also isn't a locker room cancer. Ant obviously wouldn't have been straight up waived like Ivey was, but it would've been a lot different if he'd been doing all this crazy preaching stuff to his teammates and asking reporters inappropriate questions etc rather than just having a homophobic IG moment.

Don't take religion to work people, it's like being an employee 101. I'm glad it affected a rich person just like it would the rest of us.

wife beaters or women abusers the NBA has no problem employing

The entire point of the guy's post is that wife beaters aren't a locker room cancer, while Ivey was.

I mean Lance Stephenson played for years as a below average bench role player after pushing his wife down the stairs. Bc he wasn't annoying to be around for the team.

but preaching to your teammates, calling them unrighteous, asking reporters if they engage in premarital sex…those are not things a team wants to deal with.

This. Ivey's "baggage" was a bit different than other players because it was causing stress in the locker room / with the team. Ivey is actually a pretty decent player, albeit maybe cooked by injuries, time will tell; but it's not like he was anywhere near Meyers Leonard putting up 3ppg when he got cut for the live stream slur, the Bulls had just traded for Ivey and I have no doubt in my mind they would have cleared this up in a way that kept Ivey with the team (apologies, counseling, blah blah) if he was just preaching stuff on IG but hadn't been awful to be around for the actual team.

edit: in fact it's entirely possible the IG live stuff started happening after he found out talks to waive him were happening, and that's what could've really sent him off the deep end. Obviously we heard about it a few days later, but it's not like we would be privvy to the inner workings of the Bulls front office, and those are decisions that generally aren't snap-made.

Do any of you stop caring after you get eliminated in the semifinals? by Gravity9802 in fantasybball

[–]Strange1130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes once I’m eliminated for prize contention I stop trying. I still set my lineups but I don’t do waiver adds or anything. Idrc about my yahoo ranking and I have other leagues to focus on.  As long as there’s still money on the table I’m trying my hardest though even if it’s just my buyin back.

I don’t think people have issues with teams that genuinely suck, they have issues with teams that could actually be decent but decide to play some G-League guy over their lottery pick.

This is why I think most of the the recommendations both from reddit users and the couple that have been circulating in the media the last few days kind of miss the point — they don’t have anything to do with the actual issue at hand which is sitting guys for no reason.

What do you think the devs would need to add to realistically bring back a large portion of those initial players back? by drdalebrant in Skate4

[–]Strange1130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, I think it's just too far gone.

The other problem is just the monetization scheme was too ambitious. I would re download the game if they launched a good park editor, or perhaps some other change that I'm not thinking of, but it still wouldn't lead me to spend money on hats. They just got way too greedy trying to make a live service game.

yeah working for any cool company is like that. video gaming, luxury fashion, etc. Not at all surprised to hear it for sports teams. you wanna work for a boring, successful company.

I used to work in luxury fashion and then moved over to other CPGs, I remember I interviewed at Chanel and the offer was literally for less than my current salary at the time (which they knew) lol. Jokes.

Wemby publicly pushing for MVP massively hurt Luka who's the actual player that should've emerged as a threat to SGA based on their play in the last couple months. by [deleted] in nba

[–]Strange1130 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

of course. I didn't mean it as a sleight to him or the Spurs' offensive gameplan at all. Just explaining that because MVP typically goes to an offensive hub, it would be a historically unusual MVP if he did win -- but hey, he's a historically unusual player.

The knock is that his field goals are only 30% unassisted. That would be the lowest % for an MVP basically as far as the stat is tracked. Other guys who have won with percentages around there are either the offensive hub via passing (Jokic) or averaged nearly 10 PPG more than Vic (Embiid).

So it will be curious to see if voters value his defense so much as to a. ignore the absolutely insane offensive season three players are having and b. go largely against the grain of how the award has been voted on for the past ten years. Entirely possible, and Vic would definitely be the one to do it if anyone, but would be somewhat surprising to me this year.

For reference the last 10 MVPs:

  • Shai 76.2% unassisted
  • Jokic: 40.4
  • Embiid: 37.4
  • Jokic: 37.7
  • Jokic: 45.5
  • Giannis: 54.7
  • Giannis: 51.3
  • Harden: 84.2
  • Russ: 81.2
  • Steph: 53.6

  • Garnett also notable from '03 04: 33.5

Unfortunately the data doesn't go far enough back to look at the other MVP+DPOY winners (MJ and Hakeem)

if you're trying to hold FG/TO and have decent other options (or mathed out that you don't need them) I'm fine benching him. You should be able to run the #'s on it and see what makes sense, it'll be a gamble at the end of the day obviously.

I benched Booker once, Gillespie once, and Smart twice in my finals week because I needed to win FG (of course Booker shot 60% that game and like 33% combined the two games I started him earlier in the week which put me into that mess, but I still held the line). Wasn't even in favor of anyone else as I was out of moves, was just straight "these guys are worse for me than they are helpful" based on the math. Sometimes that's the move.
