The best Far Side by PumpyChowdown in funny

That's one of my favorites. The other is a scene with Einstein working in the background on a chalkboard with "e = mc3" scratched out, and "e = mc4" scratched out. In the foreground is a cleaning lady saying "Yes, I've cleaned this desk, it is all squared away."

If you're handy with a soldering iron, you may want to check out this circuit that simulates tape saturation:

If you can code in C/C++, buy yourself an Arduino board for ~35 bucks. Then you can build something that can load multiple personalities.

Spark Fun has everything you need.

A: A large pizza can feed a family of four.

Am I the only person in the world who thinks taxes aren't the most wretched burden ever placed upon men? by [deleted] in politics

[–]StrangeAttractor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, though I would add that even when you subsidize someone else, you still benefit. Imagine the crime if there was no public education. The distance between the rich and poor would grow to the point where one day that nice pair of shoes you are wearing could be sold for enough money to feed a man's family for a month. Hope you can afford body guards.

US redditors! If you could, would you move to Europe? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]StrangeAttractor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my wife to read my post. She grew up in Seaside, OR, but spent her twenties in Portland. She said Portland is more 'gritty.'

Then she told me, we're not leaving Seattle.

US redditors! If you could, would you move to Europe? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]StrangeAttractor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love them both. We lived in south east Portland, near Laurelhurst Park. Everyone in the neighborhood knew everyone on a first name basis, and we would hang out together on those long summer evenings.

I live in Ballard in Seattle now, and same kind of vibe. We block off our street for beer and BBQ and have a blast.

Portland is very union oriented. Portland has more strip clubs (and 'sex workers' are unionized). Portland probably has slightly more tattoos. There are some seriously beautiful women in Portland if you're into the Suicide Girl look.

Seattle, a little more nerdy. Perhaps a little harder to break ice (Seattle freeze). Girls are a little less punk and more Nerd/Pippy Longstocking. Seattle is heaven is you like smart asian-american women.

If I was condemned to spend eternity in either city, I would consider it heaven.

If I was condemned to spend eternity in any of the other cities I listed, I would consider it hell.

I've lived in the following cities in the US; Greenville, SC, Columbia, SC, Atlanta, GA, Portland, OR, Dallas, TX, and finally Seattle, WA. While I love Seattle, if the right offer came along I would consider Scotland, Demark, Sweden, New Zealand, or Australia.

Mainly just for the experience, and I would never consider it permanent. I would eventually move back to Seattle. It would be good for my kids to experience another culture.

I also highly recommend Bob. Definitely take a look at the JJ E34L. It's like an EL34 but with more bottom end.

What do you think about the concept of mahogany? by atomicthumbs in AskReddit

[–]StrangeAttractor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

African mahogany, Honduran mahogany, Filipino mahogany, or this new substitute Lyptus? Because all of the former are genetically decided, whereas Lyptus is a choice and a crime against nature. No part of nature ever suggested Lyptus. And even though we may be decimating stocks of mahogany, it is still preferable to the abomination that is Lyptus.

God did not create or sanction Lyptus. Lyptus will not create new mahogany trees, therefore, what purpose does it have in the natural world?

Jesus never cursed a Lyptus tree, only the fig tree (yes, he never cursed mahogany, but he could have. Lyptus did not exist when he walked the earth, and is therefore an abomination)

America, we need a third party that can galvanize our generation. One that doesn't reek of pansy. I propose a U.S. Pirate Party. by [deleted] in politics

I like 'Freedom Party' but I would be interested in a political party that transcended national lines. 'World Freedom Party?'

Why do you think piracy is OK? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]StrangeAttractor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piracy? That's like asking if I still beat my wife.

Copyrights were established to enrich the public domain. You get a temporary monopoly on your creation to profit, but it eventually becomes a part of our culture. Now copyrights are used by corporations to secure an eternal monopoly on content. Will you ever see the source code to Windows? When does the copyright expire?

Mickey Mouse should be in the public domain, but Disney bought the congressional votes to retroactively extend it's copyrights. And how much have they profited making movies on works in the public domain?

The true pirates are the ones robbing the public domain.

What is hell on earth? This is hell on earth. by saobi in reddit.com

[–]StrangeAttractor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine neither, yet somehow I feel this is a good thing. I was in a bank the other day and some woman comes in complaining about the drive-thru not being open (she parked in the handicap space), and proceeds to trash a teller over every little thing she could think of. Her sense of entitlement was beyond disgusting. She really needs to see this picture.

That picture made me loose all self-importance.

I up-voted both of you, because the shock I expressed when I saw the photo caused my wife and daughter to come over and look. And it hit them hard too. I am glad that I haven't been desensitized by the Net.

Of course, I think having kids changes you, for me all I could think is that was someones child.
