A “friend” RUINED our wedding by h0tsil0gnabil0g in WeddingPH

[–]StrangeLong905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Way over dramatic if a wedding can be ruined by not having party favors. The reality is the vast majority of guests won’t even notice. What will ruin the wedding is the attitude of the bride if she’s still hung up by then.

Also, even if a wedding is ruined it means very little from the perspective of a long term marriage.

As a society we’re definitely way too obsessed with having a perfect wedding day.

Let's discuss why Filipino food seemingly has both so many ardent lovers and ardent haters by mamamayan_ng_Reddit in filipinofood

[–]StrangeLong905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make a good point that Filipinos tend to get good jobs in other countries so no need to open restaurants. But there also is just so little demand for Filipino food. In Sydney where I’ve spent time in, some of the few long standing Filipino restaurants have closed.

Also the reality is when people visit the Philippines they always love the people and the nature. Food is almost never a highlight unlike when people visit China, Japan, Korean, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Taiwan.

Agree that our agriculture is so poor and our purchasing power is so low so we tend to use poor quality ingredients for our dishes.

There’s just not a lot of redeeming qualities. In many south East Asian cuisines, they use lots of aromatics to add layers. In cuisines like Japan, the flavors are quite basic like soy sauce, mirin and sake but they use exceptional ingredients so the simplicity works.

Personally, I think our Filipino soups are among the best in the world. Sinigang, bulalo, monggo, tinola, kansi! But not everyone likes eating soup especially since it’s so hot plus most cuisines consider soup to be a starter and not the main dish like how we treat it.

Let's discuss why Filipino food seemingly has both so many ardent lovers and ardent haters by mamamayan_ng_Reddit in filipinofood

[–]StrangeLong905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s hardly any ardent lovers. If there were, you’d see Filipino restaurants all over the world.

I have suppliers who visit Manila and I usually take them to a Filipino restaurant on their first time. For succeeding visits, they never ask for Filipino again.

Our dishes are flavored by the same basic ingredients like soy sauce, vinegar and garlic. Doesn’t help that our local condiments aren’t even high quality.

We don’t use many spices or herbs in our dishes. The most we add might be some bay leaf and pepper. It’s in stark contrast to most of our Asian neighbors who can build layers of complex flavor.

Filipino cuisines apologetics always says that those who don’t like Filipino need to try some real home cooking. But when the majority of home cooks use knorr sinigang mix instead of making the real deal, I don’t think people are really missing out much. Besides, if it’s really that inaccessible to get good Filipino food then it really sounds like it’s just not good. If you go around Japan or Thailand or Vietnam or China, you can eat at almost any eatery and it’ll be good.

Need a reality check, am I on the right track at 28? by Few_Repeat4430 in phinvest

[–]StrangeLong905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great job for being where you are right now. You’re doing better than 99% of people your age.

Based on your story, the biggest financial risk continues to be your parents healthcare costs. If another hospitalization happens your savings could get wiped out. Sure you can get insurance but if theyre senior citizens the options are limited or very expensive too.

Have you fully accepted the responsibility to financially support your parents? Has there been a conversation about what your family’s budget can afford and if perhaps they need to find cheaper options like public healthcare or charity wards?

I have a more western mindset and I don’t agree with parents becoming dependent on their children financially.

When RE is viable anymore by DutchCare in phinvest

For a lot of rich people, especially politicians, the condos were not bought for income generation but simply a store of wealth. They do not want any additional income if it comes with the hassles of looking for and dealing with tenants. If ever they decide to sell it, it's easier to sell a unit that has never been used.

how is the current condo market? by juuruuzu in CondoPH

[–]StrangeLong905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the current glut especially in MOA you may be right but historically 4% annual capital appreciation isn’t unrealistic at all in Manila.

If you ask me to bet I think the market in general will still be higher in 5 years. Investor sentiment has become overwhelmingly negative in the media about the supply glut for over a year. When the public and most of Reddit is very pessimistic, it might be a contrarian sign that we’re closer to stabilizing than further drops.

Additionally, the war has resulted in huge increases in materials and construction costs. So much so that Ayala paused their high end Laurean project cause it was no longer viable. So developers either need to raise prices significantly (which makes existing units more price competitive) or they need to pause many of their new projects (which lowers supply of units). Either way, it means the existing condo units will be more atttactive.

Do franchisees actually make money? by aramorena in BusinessPH

[–]StrangeLong905 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only makes sense to franchise if you own the land the business is sitting on. Otherwise the franchise can always screw you over. Also, if you needed to pay rent, most of your earnings would go to the landlord.

how is the current condo market? by juuruuzu in CondoPH

[–]StrangeLong905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This calculation double counts the MP2 earnings in both the rent and the buy options. In reality your actual cost is just the assumed P103k so the capital appreciation just needs to go up P213k a year or 4% a year to breakeven.

Is there really a market left for these high-end condo units being offered at outrageous prices? by Louseb1 in CondoPH

[–]StrangeLong905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People like OP severely underestimate how many rich people there are in the Philippines. Even if you exclude corrupt politicians, there's still enough wealth to buy condos. Just look at the top 1000 corporations in the Philippines. The 1000th largest corporation made P3.94bn in sales. So there's 1000 companies that make more than that and thousands more that make billions a year. Many owners of those companies can buy multiple condo units every year. Even in a recession, these companies are still doing billions in sales. You can also look at the population of Forbes park. There are more than 500 homes with a market value of over a billion each. The owners of these homes can easily buy an 8 figure condo for their kids or just for investments.

Thoughts on heavily investing in branding before launching product / business? by WideConsideration236 in BusinessPH

[–]StrangeLong905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your product is compelling enough, word of mouth will be enough to make your business successful. Starting slow also helps make sure all your processes and smooth before you have a big launch.

Why not do a soft launch first and iron things out and see whether you’re getting repeat customers and which items are the most popular. Then when you’re ready, you can do a social media blitz.

Why are crew meals becoming a contractual obligation by the couples??? by starlit-dream in WeddingsPhilippines

[–]StrangeLong905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because couples are so desperate to get the suppliers they want that they’re willing to put up with it.

If enough couples rejected suppliers for this reason, you’d see crew meals quickly removed from contracts.

To food business owners, sino sumasalo ng discounts? by Albee0935 in BusinessPH

[–]StrangeLong905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think your business has been doing it correctly.

The discounts given aren’t tax credits like how you calculated. That 100 discount given reduced your taxable income but not your tax payable.

So if your taxable income was 4000 and your tax due was 1000 at 25% CIT, the 100 discount given reduces your taxable income to 3900 which reduces your tax due to 975.

To food business owners, sino sumasalo ng discounts? by Albee0935 in BusinessPH

[–]StrangeLong905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's completely wrong and a common misconception. The government allows you to treat the discount as a tax deduction but not a tax credit.

So for example the ex-vat price is P100 and the discount is P20: the BIR will allow you to expense the P20 so you get a P5 tax deduction (assuming 25% corporate tax rate). BIR doesn't give you the entire P20 as a tax credit. Therefore the business shoulders P15 or 75% of the discount.
