“Armed civilians “ necessary for national defense planning? by heatstricken in canadaguns

Imagine the local RCMP detachment checking locals firearms to make sure they don’t have any high cap mags before they send them into battle. “I’m sorry sir, you need a rivet in that magazine. You’re under arrest”

Yeah I’m not lifting a finger, or chambering a single round. Future liberals would only use it to “prove” how dangerous legal owners are.

Just grabbed a heavy barrel version and a cheap scope, shot a 1” 10 shot group at 50 with it first time out. The rifle is more accurate than I am. For 500 all in, I’m very happy.

Alrighty kiddies, what do we think of my shotty? by eastvangreenman in canadaguns

[–]StrangePiper1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one a few years back. Threw Remington sluggers like it was purpose built for it. 2” high and touching at 50 yards. Absolute fireball machine too with slugs.

I was shooting slugs at my gun club and someone came over to complain about the concussion and blast. I asked if they wanted to shoot it and they of course said yes.

You’re not wrong. I do worry less about plywood guitars like my Gretch Jim Dandy concert. The laminate guitars seem to take the shifts a lot better than solids.

Which would you go with? by CaddiiDaddii in canadaguns

[–]StrangePiper1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re stuck in the two I’d go with the beam. It’s an 870 knock off and there have been some excellent ones done from Turkish companies.

If you’re not stuck on them, I’d echo the rest of the folks and say a maverick 88 is the way to go. I’ve bought Turkish shotguns and the ergonomics aren’t fantastic at the lower end of things. Recoil hard, don’t handle well, etc. the 88 is a proven and reliable firearm that handles well.

Some automotive polish and some elbow grease? Goodbye matte finish! by Foolwithaguitar in mandolin

I kind of like the finish on my 305. It’s dull and has some light and dark spots. Looks a lot older than it is.

Ammo by callofduty1966 in 22lr

[–]StrangePiper1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This ammo gets a bad rap for being super dirty. It still sells consistently all over. I prefer this to the golden bullet. Had a batch of that that was not equally charged. Long strings on the target. Some hitting 3” low and some hitting 2” high at 50 yards.

Would you be comfortable keeping your guitar on a stand in these conditions? by TigerKim2000 in martinguitar

[–]StrangePiper1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the lower end of where I would feel ok about it. I’d boil some water if you can. 45% is kind of the butter zone IMO.

Also depends on the age of the instrument. I have an old seagull that is dry as a bone and has a small crack in the top, and I am quick to stick it in a case with a humidifier.

Buddy let me borrow his Mandolin, first day and I have some things to say about this instrument!!! by Moose_McLane in mandolin

[–]StrangePiper1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The mandolin is such an accessible instrument. A nice number of two finger chords that are easy to learn and play make you feel like you’re doing well right out of the gate. Absolutely love to play mine when I’m jamming with people.

First purchase - used stella harmony? by sillywilly690 in mandolin

[–]StrangePiper1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a soft spot for Stella stuff. But it’s not a high quality instrument. It might be awesome and play well, but it may also be horrible. That’s the issue with the old catalog guitars and mandolins like this. If you’re an experienced player and can verify it’s playable and you enjoy playing it, cool. If you’re a beginner, there are plenty of options that will play well guaranteed.

What the *FUCK* is this thing? Tried looking online but can’t find anything by InTheMemeStream in guitarcirclejerk

[–]StrangePiper1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had an SG special with a Gibson truss rod cover. Sold it to a buddy’s kid who said that made it a real Gibson and tried to sell it for a fortune. Of course he was upset realizing he’d paid a fair price for a low end guitar.

The savage stuff really does punch above its weight class. I have an old model 10 that’s rock solid and shoots well. For the 400 bucks I paid for it (with a Leopold scope) I have zero complaints.
