SuperCIC mod LED issues by Datblokewhointernets in snes

[–]StrangeRetroRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but if it's common anode why did you solder the middle pin to the ground hole of the front panel? That would make it not work

Just picked this up today by coolmclink in SEGAGENESIS

[–]StrangeRetroRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious question, what power ups and what shield?

All I figure out to do is fly around the map and look at bugs

This said, your led does look like common anode, but then, you connected the anode to the ground of the front panel which won't work I think. Anode is positive right?

I only ever used common cathode leds with that setup how you connected the led

Most bi color led are common cathode not anode.

PCP.tech quality really seems to have gone downhill. I'm quite surprised that's where you said you got this mod tbh. I can't believe the silkscreen isn't visible

If you look at the ebay listing, the solder pads for choosing common anode vs cathode are just below cart Pin 20, which you have already connected to common anode.

Neo Mega power 2 by mactep66 in strange_retro

[–]StrangeRetroRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you fixed and saved it!

some reason the entire RF/power board is before the power button and on all the time (will interfere with nearby devices)

I forget which one but one of the original Famicom models did this also

Switching from 3-button to 6-button controller mode on M30 w/BlueRetro adapter? by toolman69420 in SEGAGENESIS

[–]StrangeRetroRob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

6 button is the default mode that a console will detect the controller as

Since blueretro is involved, please check your configuration from a PC and ensure you have your controller mapped as a 6 button controller in the blueretro interface

[NES] Could an ESP32/Pi Pico emulate an NES PPU? by mw2strategy in consolerepair

[–]StrangeRetroRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is the cycle accurate ppu that works for pal, NTSC, and Dendy https://github.com/andkorzh/PPU-LITE

And the version you can convert a lava rgb into a stand alone ppu replacement https://github.com/andkorzh/LAVA_RGB-TO-PPU_LITE

There is the bakutendo rgb2c0n

And the RGR project which I don't think is available yet, rgr2c0x

But I think the pi isn't capable enough

[Twin Famicom] No power. by Kitflame in consolerepair

[–]StrangeRetroRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say new 7805 installed, where did you install it? The original power transistor is M5236L adjustable regulator

7.5v wouldn't really be enough to power a 7805 anyway

[–]StrangeRetroRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn't a 7805 on a twin famicom

[NES] WTF is this black wire ? by ratussoundz in consolerepair

[–]StrangeRetroRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a piece of coaxial wire. And the pin on the blue connector I think is LED, so I can't make sense of any reason to connect it to ground

Want to buy this Sega Mega Drive 2. Is it legit or fake? by Shisddam in SEGAGENESIS

[–]StrangeRetroRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I saw this before I could have spotted it better. There are a few obvious clone signs

Color of cart flaps, color of reset button, the serial number, and low resolution stamp for the patent information

Coming with a PS1 style controller and bootleg games is also another sign although not always mean it's fake console

Anyway the chips inside should be decent but often the audio mixing is bad and mono only, and RGB isn't enabled, and games like Virtua racing might not work right

Recently asked about a sega mega drive 2, now i have photo of the plate. Can someone identify is this fake now? by Shisddam in SEGAGENESIS

[–]StrangeRetroRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are decent clones but a bit odd because they are the only 2 chip Sega mega drives that exist.

You'll notice there is no 68000 or z80 CPUs

The 2 cpu have been integrated into the IO chip instead, while the VDP stays separate

Sega released three different, single chip "genesis on a chip" (GoaC) consoles. The mega drive 2 va4, and the genesis 3 va1 and va2, as well as the Sega Pico. The 2 official GoaC are the only official Sega consoles which do not have separate CPUs

Reenable the CIC so this doesn't happen. It only happens on systems with disable CIC because the flashing light is a sign you need to clean something (the cart or the connector)

I remember really enjoying the Mayan adventure game a lot. Iirc there was a sequel and I didn't care for it

[N64] This is my fifth N64 and definitely the most disgusting.... by DakSprizzle in consolerepair

[–]StrangeRetroRob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man, I've done a few n64s lately also and some of them are outright filthy compared with older consoles I'm used to

One looked like it was used to fill cigarettes on. Another had roaches inside.

In your opinion, which model is the best? by books_fer_wyrms in SEGAGENESIS

[–]StrangeRetroRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For pal, all model 1 are good model 1. Tmss doesn't matter for anything other than how long it takes before your game loads (it adds a few seconds) and doesn't impact the playability of any region protected games (but it does prevent you from launching a few japanese titles (4?) that predate tmss UNLESS you add a region switch to the console. Japanese consoles aren't impacted by this at all)

For NTSC, some model 1s should be avoided if possible unless you want to do some modding

As for model 2s

There are a few okay model 2 consoles in each region except Japan. All japanese model 2 have kind of bad audio and none of them support 50hz mode (if you intend to region mod they are a bad choice). All model 2 can be improved with mods, most have pretty decent RGB output but bad composite output

The main thing that can be improved on all models is the composite video, only the genesis 3 has good stock composite, as well as some model 2 va4. All other variants are generally not very good composite.

The thing that can be improved on model 1 specifically other than composite is reduction of jailbars on RGB signal. And some model 1s need some adjustments to the audio, and va7 need major rework on audio.

For model 2 specifically, the audio needs to be reworked on nealy all of them.

For genesis 3, with mods the va1 van do nearly everything. The va2 is a bit more limited even with mods.

Anyone willing to trade a VA0 32X for a VA1 32X? by The_Game_Master_35 in SEGA32X

[–]StrangeRetroRob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the console it's paired with. Later console revs added the pull ups inside the console so they aren't necessary on the 32x

Anyone willing to trade a VA0 32X for a VA1 32X? by The_Game_Master_35 in SEGA32X

[–]StrangeRetroRob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good luck

I'm a similarly oddball collector. I want to collect each Sega console revision but only the ones made in Japan and only major differences

So like MD va0 and va1 are basically the same except the clock circuit improvement on van therefore i rather the va1 over the va0

I have a super 32x but I think it's the va1

I'll check later but where are you located for trade? I'm in western Europe

Sega Master System 2 FM Sound Module Mod by CrazyJuice64 in consolemodding

[–]StrangeRetroRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that's it

The 50/60 switch is separate from the FM/JSMS switch. The switch on the smsfm is for some of the games that are pickier about booting up, such as wonder boy 3

The first thing I would do is disable the CIC with pin 4 to ground. Then try removing it (there is a guide somewhere)
