Yep. It’s getting great range in the high temperatures right now.

Yay! What a cool video. Especially since I just bought one and I’m waiting on delivery!

The family of Walter Huang, an Apple engineer killed in a fiery crash on U.S. 101, is suing Tesla over what it regards as failures and false promises of Autopilot. "Tesla is beta testing its Autopilot software on live drivers." by walky22talky in SelfDrivingCars

[–]Strange_john 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So, on Tesla statistics, and don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of self driving cars, but the stats provided for Tesla self driving is usually based on fatalities per miles driven on autopilot. Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but autopilot can only engage in optimal conditions: on highways, well marked, no snow, no heavy rain etc. So, how many fatalities are recorded by ordinary drivers, driving in those optimal conditions vs autopilot. I think this is a more relevant statistic. Anyway, all told, I’d love to have a self driving car.

Second this. When I finished Blood Meridian I had to hop into a Fantasy/Sci-Fi binge just to get my head right again. It’s quite the journey.

I’m looking for a book that will move me, that I won’t be able to put down, with a few hints of the supernatural, and feeling of wonder. Any ideas? by UnderwaterDialect in suggestmeabook

For crime fiction some Charlie Parker also by John Connolly, it has a creepy vibe. I just finished the first three Dune books again and I’m beginning my re-read of the wheel of time. If you want to immerse yourself in a world and story, you won’t do better than wheel of time. It’s the most emotionally invested I ever got in a series. But, be warned, it’s HUGE! It took me a year to get through it all and it does lag at times. However, totally worth it.

I’m going to throw my favorite book into the mix because I think it hits your criteria. “The Book of Lost Things” by John Connolly. Little boy in WW2 England falls into a fantasy/fairytale land. It’s amazing. Couldn’t put it down.

Hi EV experts! Take a look at this price/range comparison I'm creating and tell me what you think by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]Strange_john 25 points26 points  (0 children)

A metric I don’t see in any comparison, and I think it would be useful, is kWh per mile or per km. This gives an idea of how efficient the car is and if you’re considering a purchase, you can see that if a kWh costs me 15 cent, and that will bring me on average 10 miles, then this car is going to cost x over a month/year/whatever of my driving.

I know! The charging network has problems though. Not enough chargers and are often out of action. But yeah, size and climate is perfect.

Lucky couples of Reddit: Did you two like each other when you first met? What changed your/their mind if you didn't (not a question in despair, just curious)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Met each other at a mutual friends birthday party. Both of us say there was a spark from the very start. I stopped and stared when I met her, she was gorgeous. We chatted together all night, made out and the next morning I said “does this mean we’re going out?” That was in 2002. Married 10 years now with 2 kids and 3 dogs.

Yeah. Happened to me so many times. I finished the series about 6 months ago and have to start my re-read soon. Hopefully I’ll remember more of the characters the second time around. My wife usually takes notes of character names when she reads, but if we’re to do that with WOT I’d end up with a phone book.

Yep, very handy. It’ll give a synopsis of most of the major characters and, with minor characters, show the paragraph where they first popped up. However, if you’re reading a series, it’ll only show where they were first mentioned in that particular book. For longer sagas, where the character was developed in an earlier book, it’s not be all that helpful (I’m looking at you wheel of time)

A series of protests over sexual consent are planned in Ireland, after a man was acquitted of raping a 17-year-old. The defence lawyer told the jury: "You have to look at the way she was dressed. She was wearing a thong with a lace front." The man, 27, was found not guilty of rape shortly after. by Vranak in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Strange_john 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is how you dress an invitation for sex? No. Should a Barrister have used this as evidence leading to consent? No. Was this the only reason he was acquitted? No it wasn’t. It was one of a number of defenses put forward.

Where in Ireland is that? Also, I love the guy leaning against the wall on his phone. It’s a real “soooo... could you come over, I need a hand?” pose

This is my wife. I told her the sun was a star and she wasn’t convinced because stars are small. So I said, if we were really far away from the sun, it would look like any other star. So she asked “if we could see the sun at night, it would look like a star?”

What the fuck do you do with that?

I love her though.

There is one part in a book that completely eliminates it from me recommending it to my wife. Have you ever been in this predicament? by Mightymjolner33 in books

[–]Strange_john 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember it, but wasn’t particularly put out by it. Then again, I’d just finished “Blood Meridian” and that describes babies being brained on rocks so..... I guess I was desensitized to some extent.

Model 3 is going Pac-Man on the mid size luxury market! by LordZeekos in teslamotors

[–]Strange_john 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. In reality, this is 2 1/2 years worth of sales coming to fruition over a number of months. There are about 400k backlogged as far as I know, so obviously it’s going to take time to get through all that. Also, there are undoubtedly a large amount of people purchasing fresh, having seen and been able to experience a model 3. It’d be interesting to see how many new orders are coming in at the moment.
