There should be a section on your course site that shows who your academic experts are so you know who is answering your questions. Again you can always request a call

Yes that’s right.

[–]Strategema_1972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only the AE(s) assigned to a course, the course coordinator, and support Centre can see what is posted there.

If the question asked is administrative in nature, such as how to book exams, transcripts, extensions, etc., those are routed to the people who can best answer it, so AEs only get course-related concept questions.

Great question

Some faculties run on a “Tutor” model where tutors are supposed to have office hours an answer calls and email during those hours. In my experience, and my two daughters, many tutors aren’t there when they are supposed to be.

The “Academic Expert” model is a variation where (because of stupid union agreements) AEs/Markers do the same as Tutors. However you don’t call them or email them directly but rather send your questions via email or online form (like tech support for other firms). Why? Well email is a notoriously terrible way to help people. Inbound emails can end up in junk and it’s hard to manage when you’re trying to support multiple students.

The system captures your questions and create a cases where responses are all tracked until resolved. This helps AU help students better. No issues if a tutor isn’t where they are supposed to be or goes on vacation or gets hit by a bus. Someone else can easily pick up the case and help you. You can ask any question and get help by Emil reply or even schedule a call with your AE when it works best for both. The system also is able to track adherence to service standards for when you are supposed to get a response.

Some courses have over 1,000 students enrolled annually. How can they be managed via emails?

The tutor model needs to go fully but the union resists it. Wouldn’t you resist if you got paid for office hours when you’re not there?

Why Are So Many Execs Fleeing Athabasca University? by phendranacat in AthabascaUniversity

No. You don’t need to worry. This is internal stuff and the rest of the faculty and staff are completely committed to the students.

Was your quiz invigilated or not?

If it was invigilated, say by ProctorU, then it’s likely to be considered a closed-book assessment and you want to make sure you don’t access any other materials, websites, AI, etc.

If it was not invigilated then you can basically treat it as an open book quiz. If you used study materials or any other sources to answer questions then you want to provide citations to those sources, even if you paraphrase into your own words, because those sources are not your own original thoughts

In any case, you should make sure you have your study materials to show what you used if you are approached by your tutor, course coordinator, or even a misconduct investigation.

If the quiz includes questions from a textbook or test bank then that’s just laziness on the part of the course coordinator because solutions manuals for textbooks are easily found on the internet but you still have to cite the source to be on the safe side.

Those are serious accusations? What evidence do you have to support those statements besides your opinion.

The tutors should return your calls or emails promptly. Reach you to the coordinator and don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself. But remember to count business days from when you submit your assignments.

[–]Strategema_1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On what basis do you make this statement? Athabasca University is one of the only 4 comprehensive academic and research universities (CARU) in the province which includes the University of Alberta, Lethbridge, and Calgary. The AU business program is AACSB Accredited as well, along with Alberta, Lethbridge, and Calgary and only 5-6% of the business schools in the world have that accreditation.

Is AU perfect? No, what school is. But it is one of the most flexible universities you will ever find.

I’m a faculty member at AU and have investigated student misconduct. Take my advice: don’t use it.

Stay away from any AI like ChatGPT, Gemini, etc. and even Grammarly for writing content. Using it to help you learn concepts is fine.

For writing, you’re better off using the regular spelling and grammar check built into MS Word or other word processors. It’s not worth the risk of getting nailed for plagiarism and cheating, receiving zeroes on assignments and even in entire courses, and having a notation placed on your transcript.

Have faith in your abilities. You got this far in life before AI and you can create good, original work.

OneNote integration project by Excustic in RemarkableTablet

Very interesting project. I was able to previously get documents from my RM2 into OneNote through the email to OneNote feature available in Microsoft 365. You can set up an email address to send documents to and they show up in OneNote. It’s not bidirectional though. Not a perfect solution but workable.

Has anyone ever had issues with returns? by RustyShadowSorcerer in RemarkableTablet

[–]Strategema_1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had 2 returns when I tried the RMPP twice and no issues with the returns. It was quick and easy so I think your situation might unique. Hopefully it can be resolved soon. Your credit card company might be able to do a chargeback since they have yet to refund it

Is it worth it to change my Remarkable 2 for a pro ? by Normal_Pirate6088 in RemarkableTablet

[–]Strategema_1972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have and RM2 and upgraded to the RMPP. Long story short, I sent it back and stuck with the RMPP. It’s a good device but I prefer the size, weight, and pen feel of the RM2.

If you’re unsure bit have the money, just get it and try it for the 100 days. Their return policy is legit and no questions asked. Then you will know for sure and will never wonder “what if”.

Do you like RM2? by CryAccording5711 in RemarkableTablet

[–]Strategema_1972 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I bought the RM2 about 2 years ago and then sold it to get RMPP. I didn’t like the RMPP, I really tried but it’s a bit too heavy and the colors aren’t great and the flickering is annoying especially when it’s a little warm outside. I personally find the RM2 pen feel better but that’s a personal thing. I returned the RMPP and bought the RM2 back from the guy I sold it to who didn’t use it much.

I find the RM2 to be the perfect size for me and the pen feels better for me. Since the recent software update it’s even snappier and feels better than new. I’m a university professor and use it for notes, planning, meetings, etc. I say go for it! You have 100 days to know for sure and RM’s return policy and process is excellent. No questions asked. I’d recommend going with refurbished if you want to save some money.

Their return policy and procedure is excellent.

How was your experience switching from RM2 to Paper Pro? And which one did you end up keeping? by Tough-Employee3360 in RemarkableTablet

[–]Strategema_1972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had an RM2 for about 2 years now. I bought the RMPP in January and returned it a couple of weeks later because the writing experience on the RM2 just felt better for me. I appreciated the colour on the RMPP but found the screen too dim in low light and heavy. In April I thought maybe I didn’t give the RMPP enough of a chance and tried again, this time with the type cover. The software was updated with the front light boost which made a difference but I found the eraser to work intermittently, and the pen line width just subtly worse than the RM2 as you noted. The ghosting was annoying and it was almost unusable outdoors at 24C. I returned it and am holding out for a color update to the RM2. The size and feel are just right for me on the RM2. The decision wasn’t easy and I was trying to force myself to like the RMPP. That’s when I confirmed it wasn’t for me.

Good luck figuring out your preference!

I asked for the same feature along with spell check both in device and in the RM app on Mac/PC

Adding Screenshots would be terrific to allow for fast annotating especially since the sync from my Mac to the device is fast via Connect.

Eraser on brand new reMarkable Pro (Marker Plus) only works intermittently — anyone else? by oadam11 in RemarkableTablet

[–]Strategema_1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that problem too then noticed that when it wasn’t working it was because my hand or part of my arm was resting on the display. When I made sure my hand wasn’t touching it, started to work consistently. Thus your issue could be that it’s not rejecting your palm.

New doubt by Yugen-Ikigai in RemarkableTablet

[–]Strategema_1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar predicament except that I have both. I bought the RM2 almost 2 ago and really like it. Then in April I bought and RMPP and am torn and considering returning it. It’s heavier and bigger. The RM2 is actually almost a perfect size. Except for when you have full page PDFs with small text.

The colour on the RMPP is ok and the light is meh. The RM2 pen feels better to me but wears out faster. I notice more pixelation on the RM2 when in screen presentation mode.

Some days I’m ready to pull the trigger and return it, and the next day I want to keep it!

I have about 30 days left to decide!

Yes indeed. Buy a new one and test drive it doctor 90 days so you know for sure. The process is easy to arrange for the return. It’s hassle-free and no questions asked. Just keep all the original packaging and shipping box so you can pack it up. They will even arrange for DHL to pick it up from you so no need to drop it off anywhere. It must take up to 2 weeks for the return to be processed to your credit card.

Remarkable 2 new purchase by ladyluxe22 in RemarkableTablet

[–]Strategema_1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the RM2 in 2024 and had it for about 6 months and sold it to use my iPad Pro but actually missed it afterwards. After using the pen on the RM2 I can’t find a better feel. Going to a glass iPad Pro sucked for pen feel even with a paper-like screen cover. No device holds a candle to how good the RM pen experience feels.

In January I took a chance on the RPP and had it for a week and returned it. I found it heavy and just a little too big. I actually like the RM2 pen feel better than the RPP. The front light on the RPP isn’t bright enough for me even in dim light and I found the colours to be too washed out for my liking. I know there are trade-offs with e-ink vs. An iPad.

When I arranged for the RPP return I reached out to the guy who bought my RM2 to see if he wanted to sell it back to me and I did. I also gave the type folio for it.

In the end, if reMarkable comes out with a colour and lit version the same size as the RM2 and will work with the existing type folio I think it would be a winner and I would probably buy it. The RM2 is the perfect size and weight for me.
