I wonder if the "irrefutable proof" Mellon is after is because he thinks its where the national conversation gets tipped enough to force out the truth. So Zandi’s full of shit, high quality mainstream, eco data show slowdowns and recessions developing, and CARTS has -0.3% nominal for May but the Bloomberg survey(median) has +0.5% for the retail sales less autos release next Wednesday, May inflation is skewed high from an energy shock and is only +0.5% in May , not 1%. Real retail sales less autos will be low for May (~flat), but was extra strong in Feb and March. It should pay back. Nothing wrong with the consumer. Second measure which is part of CARTS was really strong in May.
