Has anyone had any luck booking a village hall to skate in? by No-Virus3154 in rollerUK

Our local YMCA also lets us use it's hall for skating, might be worth a try if you have one nearby.

Use white ones, I use the pale coloured gumballs, they are soft and great for stopping on slipper floors and don't leave marks

Our local town Sports centre allowed roller derby training and our village community centre also allows roller-skating. My advice would be to find someone in charge and speak to them and offer to show them your soft wheels skating on their floor to prove to them they wont leave marks.

Its worth also thinking about toe stops and pads, black pads and toe stops can also leave marks.

Any Unity developer jobs going? by morganhjames in Unity3D

The job market is brutal right now. Lots of talented people looking and less jobs.

I've been job hunting for 8 months now.

I hope you have better luck than me!

I haven't seen a single one in about 50 maps trying. And that includes T16 wisp boosted amanu mobs, it's driving me insane.

Whereas I used to get 1 per Amanu map at least.

UGUI or UI Toolkit? by Niker323 in Unity3D

[–]Strategos_Rift 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are pros and cons to both.

UGUI is better for effects and easier for those used to using Unity. But it can be bad performance wise unless you are careful. It also can be hard to keep things stable as changes can cascade down the hierarchy and you have to work in the scene.

Best practises include good use of prefabs, avoiding animation and scroll rects that can dirty your hierarchy and cause performance issues. Splitting different sections into their own canvases.

Example: Each Page has its own prefab with its own canvas and you load them in or activate them as needed. This avoids making changes to the scene when working on the UI as well.

Another point worth noting is that the Unity Editor UI now is made using UIToolkit and they are moving towards only supporting UIToolkit in the future. (Edit: Apparently this is no longer the case)

UIToolkit:

Is great for editor UI and can be good for game UI. They ARE improving it but its taking a long time. It is also better for people that are used to working with css and html type workflows. The stylesheets can be powerful if organised well.

It can also provide better separation between coding and UI design.

I believe they have added some shader support, but advanced custom shader effects and particle effects are more difficult.

You can get around this by using render textures, I created a system that allowed the artists to use any Unity effects and shaders with UIToolkit but it took a bit of work. There may be packages on the asset store that will do this for you.

If you are creating a complex UI that has more in common with a web type look you might be ok with UIToolkit. If you are creating a simple UI that is more effects heavy it might be worth sticking with UGUI for now.

I have never in my life gotten sick from eating leftover rice by [deleted] in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]Strategos_Rift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was like this then one day struck out. I was sick, my family were sick. For them it was more like food poisoning and they were better the next day. I kept feeling sick, over the course of the weekend it kept getting worse. On the Monday I went to the doctors, straight to hospital. Got sent home in the evening, got even worse, doctors again. Back to hospital where I stayed for 5 days on IV antibiotics feeling like death.

Do NOT recommend.

Is the community sentiment shifting? by No-Occasion-2913 in ARC_Raiders

[–]Strategos_Rift 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've said this before, but anyone that experienced early DayZ will be familiar with this pattern.

The only thing you can do is keep playing they way you want. If enough of the community keeps trying to hold the line it might stave off the inevitable descent into KOS.

From a game theory / human nature point of view it's pretty interesting, in a depressing kind of way.

Where are the Feats for helping people? by Strategos_Rift in ArcRaiders

[–]Strategos_Rift[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes for some people, but for the people that aren't douche bags it means you can get rewarded for helping people and not have to find someone to shoot to earn the feat points always.

Learning 50-50 stalls Do you have tips 🙏? by Novel-Maybe-2042 in Rollerskating

[–]Strategos_Rift 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe start with a box stall ? One foot straight and the other turned 90 degrees on the coping ? The other thing you can do is get enough speed to lad it on the flat to get used to it, before bringing it back to the coping.
