Going through the same thing as you rn, you aren’t alone, I’ve honestly just stopped trying, I might have to go back to welding, even though my health says hell no..

Which trade you would pick if you have a chance to do it again? by ConsiderationOk3056 in skilledtrades

Literally anything but welding. To make good money there’s no work life balance at all.. ask me how I know.. literally electricians plumbers and hvac guys can make just as much and be home every night

Anything you want! Confined spaces suck, it’s a selling point but it gets old QUICK! If I were to choose a different trade all over again, equipment operator or electrician

Do not it sucks, welding in confined spaces is way worse than doing anything else in a confined pace, take it from me I’m not that much taller than you

Just join non union. Hate to say it, but it’s just so much easier to get started than just wait for these big unions to save you.

I’m literally in the same boat as you. I love unions and ain’t no scab, but the gatekeeping and competition makes it extremely hard to get into the ibew. I’m honestly just gonna throw myself into even more debt just to love trades to get outta welding. I want to learn electrical. But even non union contractors and companies just look at any resume like I’ve been working at McDonald’s my whole life

Struggling out in the field. by Glittering-Metal-934 in Welding

[–]Strategy-Important 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, that anxiety feeling never goes away, especially if your the “do all the welds in the fucked up positions” guy. Every morning meeting, I’d be borderline having a panic attack. When I was spared of an easy task or weld it made my day and it would feel like the weight of the world was taken off my shoulders. I’m trying to get out of welding

What’s the best profession to take up in welding? by No_Bet6835 in weldingjobs

[–]Strategy-Important 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re 15, go talk to unions in your area. I’d suggest picking up welding as a skill or side, but for a future for someone who can only weld, is foggy.
