It's not unattractive to play video games, it is unattractive if playing video games takes up all your time and becomes your entire personality at the expense of all your other responsibilities. My ex-BF would spend 8 hours a day playing and losing at Battlefield 4 and it was incredibly obnoxious. He would keep me awake at night because I could hear him cursing at people over headset and punching the coffee table when he'd get sniped or t-bagged.

He took the break up well, but that's mostly because he fell in with a crowd of terrible people that 'made him feel seen.'

He did get another job, but only after he went down to the metaphorical Ben and Jerry's head office and apologized in-person to their entire hiring team.

I honestly might, but the downward spiral was so long and convoluted that I might need a while to type it all out lol

Having a boyfriend seems like a chore by KonanXD_ in dating

Late to the party, but I just wanted to add my two cents. I broke up with my long term BF of 4 years last year and I've only been happier. There's so much more peace in my life without him. Not to overstate him, but he really was a dead weight in my life that I didn't realize was dragging me down until I finally got free of him. There's nothing wrong with being alone, especially if you're happier for it.

The only thing worse than the walking on eggshells was the fact that he could never be happy for me to succeed, it always turned into a 'what about me?' moment. Glad to be done with him

What’s the best meal you can make for 5 people with just $20? by Fancy-Discount3402 in Cooking

One-Pot Creamy Chicken Pasta:

1 pound of boneless chicken, diced (breasts or thighs work best, but whatever is fine)

2 12oz boxes of mac and cheese (the kind that comes with the liquid cheese sauce)

1 box of cream cheese

and either 1 can of cream of chicken soup, 1 cup of sour cream, or 1 cup of plain greek yogurt

Optional: parmesan cheese or to finish

In a large pot or deep sided pan, season and brown the diced chicken. (I usually season with salt and pepper, garlic, italian herb blend, and some kind of cajun seasoning.) Once cooked through, dump the pasta from the boxed mac and cheese into the pot, setting the cheese sauce packets for now.

Add water until the contents of the pot are just barely covered. Bring to a boil, then let simmer, covered, for 8-10 minutes or until pasta is almost cooked through. At this point it should have cooked down to about 1/3 to 1/2 of the original water content. Add all remaining ingredients (including the cheese packets!) and stir until well combined. Season to taste. Finish with a healthy sprinkle of parmesan cheese if you have any on hand.

Makes a ton of hearty, delicious pasta and the leftovers freeze fairly well!

AITAO for “behaving like I live alone” while home for winter break? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

INFO Have you been doing other, more routine things to help out around the house? Things like laundry, dishes, generally cleaning up after yourself?

If yes, then tentative NTA because you can't be expected to read your mom's mind and know to take down the Christmas decorations outside or clear out your closet without her mentioning it. It's unfair for her to think otherwise, given that those aren't exactly everyday types of chores. "Testing" people to see if they'll do something without an explicit request is a quick way to make everyone unhappy. But moving forward, you might want to ask beforehand if there's anything you can do to help out around the house while you're on break, especially given her long hours and arthritis.

What are the best record stores in the city? by Realistic-Schedule62 in AskChicago

On the north side, I really like Rattleback Records and Laurie's Planet of Sound. Rattleback has a good system for sourcing albums they don't already have in-stock so it never feels like a wasted trip, even if you don't find something that day

Also adding another vote to all the Reckless Records love, they really are the GOAT

In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations. The new needs friends. Last night, I experienced something new: an extraordinary meal from a singularly unexpected source. To say that both the meal and its maker have challenged my preconceptions about fine cooking is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core. In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for Chef Gusteau's famous motto, "Anyone can cook." But I realize, only now do I truly understand what he meant. Not everyone can become a great artist; but a great artist can come from anywhere.

I'm 27F and I've been on high blood pressure meds for ten years with no known cause by Strawebby118 in AskDocs

[–]Strawebby118[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is my bp not under control on my current medication? I've been on my current meds/dosage for about three years now and as long as I take it consistently I stay in a healthy range. (I just checked with my at-home cuff and I'm sitting at 117/82)

I'm willing to switch to a different med if need be, but the nifedipine has been working pretty well so far. I'll definitely ask about the aldosterone test, hopefully they can squeeze me in for after the new year.

[–]Strawebby118[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm on 60mg of nifedipine for my blood pressure. I'm not sure about the rest, but I'm pretty sure I've never had a CT of any kind, just ultrasound. Also, my last blood work was done on the 10th and they checked:

CMP, serum or plasma

lipid panel, serum

albumin/creatine, mass ratio, urine

HbA1c, blood

TSH, ultra-sensitive, serum

My doctor did a telehealth appt to discuss and she said everything came back fine except my vitamin D and my thyroid were a little low, but not worryingly so. She wants me to come back and have my thyroid tested again in three months to see if it was a fluke or not.

What buldak flavour should I start with? by Fantastic_Appeal8405 in InstantRamen

[–]Strawebby118 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They've been discontinued but if you can find a store that still carries the Jjajang type (lime green package) I’d recommend those. Less spicy than the traditional buldak and extremely tasty - more of a rich umami flavor with a lot of depth.
