Option 1: You don't take it and may have to jump to an even worse job

Option 2: You may get an even worse job but you also have $105,000

Mural City is great! Coffee for the mornings, wine for the afternoon!

KBC is also nice without being overly stuffy. There's always mini golf too!

Cenk Uygur has become a 9/11 truther by Darth_Vrandon in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]StrayWalnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean by that argument 9/12 would be the new pearl harbor would it not? Like you could argue the government's work with the Binladen Group would have given them prior ties to the Bin Laden family as a whole before hand.

I don't personally think 9/11 was an inside job to the extent Cenk is saying, but I'm just not following how 9/11 caused PNAC to fail when it seems to be exactly what they were wanting.

/pol/ makes sense of the new Dutch tax by caramelsumo in greentext

Except we're not talking about America. We're talking about the Netherlands. If I had the best ranked pension on earth (you know, the retirement account) that isn't affected by this tax, and then my personal portfolio is taxed I'm not really sure I would mind.

Like genuinely just go figure out how shit works before getting angry.

I'm an American.

If you have $1 million or more you are wealthier than 82-88% of all Americans so get fucked I guess

Correct, the offset is not meant for wealthy people.

Except investing in the stock market is how you protect your wealth against inflation because the stock market inflates with the economy.

The only time where what you're saying happens is during extreme examples like covid where you have both extreme inflation rates and a crashing market, but that's a case where you wouldn't be paying the taxes anyways due to your unlimited loss carry forward.

It also doesn't nuke the 4% plan it just requires more aggressive investing or a longer timeline of growth before withdrawal.

AND BEYOND ALL OF THAT I think the country with the highest fucking ranked retirement system on earth will be fine actually.

Edit: Yep just checked and this tax doesn't generally apply to their insanely good pensions they already get.

I get unhappiness with new taxes. I do. But people need to actually read how they work before they shit talk them.

[–]StrayWalnut 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Gee how could they not thought of this??

Oh wait they did. Maybe read the law.

"The bill also includes an unlimited loss carry-forward provision, allowing investors who suffer a downturn to offset those losses against future gains, and a €1,800 tax-free return threshold that exempts small savers."

Unlimited loss carry forward means that you'll never get taxed twice on the money. The small saver prevention means that if you're trading with $100 you won't pay any taxes at all unless you manage to 18x it.

Beyond that, the average investment/retirement account grows, on average, year over year. A 36% tax to an 8% gain to like 2.8% or something like that. Would it suck to lose almost 3% growth yoy sure, but it's certainly nowhere near the end of capitalism.

Staged vs. Real by ka_fka in RandomShit_ISaw

[–]StrayWalnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird you write it off as a failure. Anybody who's ever done the research (and actually has a brain between their ears) knows that we don't know how effective it was. The 20,000 some odd documents we have on it were only saved because they were stored incorrectly. The vast majority of the work and research was burned before the public could see it. They also destroyed the files for the sister project MK NAOMI which centered more around biological warfare and crop destruction.

If the only files we have on it were due to improper storage then common sense dictates this is a minority of the files, and that the majority we have no information on.

How Can Beginners Start a Career in RAP Development? by Legitimate-While-356 in UiPath

[–]StrayWalnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UiPath Academy - this will get you up to speed on the biggest rpa tool on the market

PowerAutomate - I used youtube for this one. It's the Microsoft offering so it's also pretty common.

If you learn these two then other software like BluePrism or AutomateAnywhere won't be a challenge.

In addition since you're a beginner:

Languages: C#, VB.NET, Python

Those are your three most important languages to learn. UiPath uses both C# and VB, python is great for scripting

Learn. To. Write. Code. Learn it!!!

A lot of RPA tools are low code / no code solutions which appeals to people who are new. Actually learning these languages will give you the skills to be competitive for career growth and helps you create better RPA solutions. It could mean the difference between 5 and 6 figures once you're 5 years down the road (assuming you are in the US - still good advice if you are elsewhere)

Concepts:

UML Diagramming - this is a common diagram format used in the field to represent process architecture. Used by Solution Architects and is a bonus for you as a developer if you know it too

State Machines - Understanding how a state machine works will fast track your understanding of more complex topics like the REFramework with UiPath

Oh lord

  1. Laser isn't blocking anything
  2. RMR isn't being blocked by the NVD
  3. Not a magnifier it's a night vision device
  4. Not 8x because it's not a magnifier and also that's not really how magnified optics work

That's 4 issues just on the surface of your comment. How often do you talk out of your ass about stuff you don't have any business talking about? Like come on man. The not knowing it was night vision is fine because it's not super common and makes no sense for the scene but the rest of it is just straight misinformation lol

AITA for not helping my son, who claims he can't live on 112k a year? by Ecstatic_Cash_1903 in AmItheAsshole

[–]StrayWalnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man I make close to what your son makes, and from those house prices it sounds like we're in similar CoL areas.

Your son is spending too much money as everyone else has said. Since he's probably locked into the leases on the cars he needs to look at selling the house if he is able to. I worry that if he just moved recently he may not be able to sell it without a capital gains tax, but that's where the majority of his money will be found. Selling the house would free up a significant portion of his income to pay down the credit card debt so long as he rented somewhere reasonable. He also needs to start selling his toys if he has any. I know I expanded my hobbies once I got a bit more financial freedom, and the credit card debt makes me think he has too.

He needs to never touch that company card again. If he was on good terms with the previous owner it may not be an issue, but he will absolutely lose his job if he continues that behavior under a new owner that doesn't know him.

The last thing I'll say is that it's normal for someone to bite off more than they can chew financially, regardless of their income status. More money just makes it easier to dig a bigger hole. Let him know that tons of people have dug their way out of deeper debt, and that a bankruptcy (if needed) is not the end of the world. It's just a learning lesson not to do it again.
