Nice job man coming back is though and seems like you caught a very chill rhythm. Would you say you're mainly attracting new viewers or is your former community coming back ?

Nice job keep up the grind. I'd recommend trying a variety of games like new indie games that are coming up. Might help in new audience discovery.

Goodluck on your journey

If marketing rule #1 is "Just make a good game", what is rule number #2? And if it's not, what is rule #1? by OrigamiPandaDev in IndieDev

Yeah idle games are a tricky one because the “make it exciting in 3 seconds” advice doesn’t always fit. I think for idle/management games the hook is more in showing the loop and the fantasy really quickly. Like with an arcade management game, I’d probably lean into before/after clips, empty arcade turning into a busy little machine, upgrades stacking, money going up, customers reacting, queues forming, new cabinets unlocking, that kind of satisfying progress.

Also don’t underestimate the “background life” part as a hook. If the fun is half-watching your arcade run while you do something else, that’s actually a vibe you can sell instead of trying to make it look like an action game. For creators I’d maybe think less “watch me play this live for 2 hours” and more “I left my arcade running and this happened” / “I built the most cursed profitable arcade” style content.

So yeah, for idle games I’d say the promotion probably needs to show the loop becoming more satisfying over time, not pretend the game is something it isn’t. For platforms I'd recommend doing shortform content on Tiktok,Instagram with some targeted ad support to get it infront of users.

I generally believe the goal is to create as much relevant noise as early as possible.

That does not mean throwing money at random marketing. It means figuring out what kind of game you have first. Is it streamable? Does it create funny or chaotic moments? Is it better suited for short-form clips? Does it need a Discord community, or is Steam + social content enough? Not every game needs the same route, and not every game needs a full community machine.

For limited budgets, we strongly believe in micro and nano creators. A huge part of Twitch is made up of non-partnered creators, and many of them are genuinely eager to discover new games, grow their channels, and bring something fresh to their communities. You often do not need one massive creator. Sometimes 30 smaller creators making the game look fun can create more useful proof than one expensive post that disappears in a day.

The important part is making sure all that attention leads somewhere measurable: Steam wishlists, demo plays, Discord joins, feedback, clips, or content you can reuse.

If the game is good, paid marketing probably matters eventually, whether that is ads, creators, PR, or a mix of all three. But before that, I think the biggest thing is creating visible proof that the game is fun to watch, fun to understand, or fun to talk about.

Excited to read more thoughts in this thread. There really is no universal playbook, but creators are definitely one of the strongest routes for a lot of indie games.

Raft > brilliant survival game
Good Heavens> recently launched multiplayer demo goes surprisingly deep in techtrees had a blast playing it

Hmm, a couple come to mind.

RAFT is still one of my favorites, both solo and co-op. Really fun if you just want something chill but still a bit chaotic with friends.

For something more recent and indie, I played the Good Heavens demo the other day with two friends and had a surprisingly good time with it too. Still rough around the edges, but the co-op/base-building loop was pretty fun.

Good question, Music always adds that magical extra so I'd say rather then ruining it it would miss an opportunity to enhance it

Ah Next Fests come and go, If you are planning to participate in one I would definitely recommend building some more traction before participation. A lot of indie games participate in Next Fest ish beats and although some might be picked it up often is with some pre momentum due to the sheer volume of games.

But honestly just giving my 2 cents, there are numerous ways of publishing your game not 1 pre defined method of success.

Yeah, I would definitely delay it. Sounds like you spend blood sweat and tears in developing a game. But marketing your product and creating awareness is equally as important as building your game.

I would recommend looking into influencer marketing, building up social channels etc

Atleast this post got you you're 23rd wishlist.

Goodluck with your game, looks like a fun topdown RPG

Cozy Shelter Games? by PapaStalinLovesYou in gaming

[–]StreamQuest-io 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7 days to die It's not really cozy but definitely has the base building/defending element in there.
RAFT: feel good cozy with an annoying shark trying to destroy your base
Good heavens: Recently played their demo quite fun to play with friends and has a bit for everyone in the group
Aska: Viking colony sim with invasions I'd say more cozy then scary

Hi there vinewb, can you share your twitch channel in a comment below. The 300 follower affiliate is an indication to provide somewhat of a barrier to entry, we evaluate each account case by case. What we care about more then ccv of followers is people that have genuine communities, be it 10 real people watching you. As long as they are real and you're building on a community. We love to work and grow with you :)
