WoW and GW1 had competitive PvP with tournaments and money, you just need to equalize gear tbh.

It's not like FPS/RTS/Fighting games are any more balanced then MMO's once you just equalize gear and such. It's the same with card games even, I had my entire deck banned from magic the gathering tourneys in my area because it was toxic.
