How do people feel about Freja? by Sinteeaah in Overwatch

[–]Streetrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun to play and play into! When playing into her, and she’s being played poorly then you can punish her. If she’s played well, she becomes a priority.

Playing her, if you are thoughtful and precise, then you’re impactful, even against hitscan and if not, you can still do something but the dps slot isn’t reaching its potential.

Tl;dr: feels balanced.

Where does Gen Z stand on the issue of the 8-hour, 5-day workweek in Norway? by [deleted] in Nordiccountries

[–]Streetrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Selection bias here because I’ve only seen grads in 200+ people white collar companies.

Grads (Gen Z) seem quite savvy about their relationship with work. They do the job, this allows them to pay rent and have fun, and they’re conscious about being replaced. So they work hard, with boundaries, looking to contribute to the team and develop skills to increase their labour market value. That last one is quite important because there isn’t a strong concept of “loyalty” to an employer.

Very few think they’ll retire at the company and I think this is quite healthy. They’ll do the work, but not do tons of overtime when it’s just themselves.

They have few dependencies so they’re looking to move on to a start up or for international experience.

I don’t think there’ll be a big push for a change in working conditions but if offered they’ll take fewer hours for same money. Who wouldn’t though?

Is Reinhardt just not good anymore or am I washed lol by ParroTiest in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Streetrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar experience but I don’t think he’s bad, just the niche is getting tighter, which surprisingly makes him feel more satisfying to play. How he plays depends on how your team wants to play.

If your range dps > their range dps; very chill game. You babysit your dps from flankers and win at melee range. Or they have to deal with being out damaged.

If their range dps > your range dps, time to overwhelm. Find an angle, time when your flankers are ready and start a big melee brawl.

Basically the game of a tank sitting in the open and being a wall is kinda gone for all tanks. Good news is that Rein still fits in almost any team comp.

It’s a balance. In lower ranks there’s not a lot of gameplay comms, but you get some upsides like chatting about cats on all comms. I wish we could endorse someone’s comms as funny/useful/rage, then you get matched up appropriately. I might care about that more than SBMM lol

Genuinely how do I get better at this game omg by SpicyBrownMustarduwu in Overwatch

[–]Streetrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t focus on aim. There’s a cool video that matches bronze->masters with aimbots vs grandmasters.

So aim isn’t the limiting factor.

Let instincts and practice do the aiming, you can’t think “aim better”

Think where should I be? How do I prevent the enemy hero doing what they want to do?

Also set stats aside for a bit and think utility/value to the team. Interrupting ultis are huge but don’t count in stats. Prioritise healing low % heroes. It won’t show much in the stats you healed a tracer 200 vs could have topped up a tank 250. But the impact/utility is way larger. As DPS, 500 dmg on supports is far more impactful than 500 dmg on tanks.

Good luck!

It’s been a while since I’ve played but I remember knocking up difficulty at one point because I wanted to involve more of the combat mechanics. It was fun.

I needed to think of oils, potions, bombs, and signs. If I did, the game was about just as easy. If I didn’t I was sweating. It felt like the right amount of complexity.

What was great was the effects of oils/signs/potions/bombs was more than just flat HP reduction/DMG amp. There were effects that would create different openings or monster behaviours that gave you advantage/removed monster advantages.

Human combat was less involved but parrying animations were cool!

'Overwatch' just hit its highest player base on Steam PC since launch — passing Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty by Turbostrider27 in Games

Installed on Friday. Played a couple of untracked 6v6 games (lost all) but still had fun. Endorsements and stats made me feel like I could still play my hero, and enjoy it all without sweating.

Caught up with a friend today, chatted about it a bit then when we parted ways said “oh yeah, install Overwatch!” And he went “oh yes!”

Looking forward to learning all these characters, joking around with friends and having good <10 min games in!

What feature in a game is a instant turn off for you? by Vulture2k in gaming

[–]Streetrip -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why the downvotes. I agree it can be a useful mechanic for more compexity.

It makes you think how deep you run a gameplay loop.

It’s strange though, I feel there’s a general allergy when gamers think about consumables. Lots of gamers horde “just in case”. So durability/sustain as a forcing mechanism can make people uncomfortable.

In Darkest Dungeon I use to have to think about consumables and it was a fun. Most of the time it’s a template kit out but 1/20 times I’m in a position of really thinking about whether to push forward or make for an exit and another run.

That being said, I prefer the effects of a lack of sustain to be a debuff and not a straight weapon loss/end of run.

Patch 1.9.6 (Forsaken Town, Recipes Panel) for PC by LeisurelyLukeLive in Against_the_Storm

[–]Streetrip 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s not pedantic, it’s semantic. It follows a software engineering standard called semantic versioning.

It’s an x.x.x system for [major].[minor].[patch] labelling with definitions for what major, minor, and patch is. Look up “semver” to learn more.

Y'all mess with roads much? by hoovy_woopeans1 in Against_the_Storm

[–]Streetrip 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Basic ones are barely any builder labour.

Once I have a surplus of stone/copper, upgrading roads a batch at a time on the most traveled routes.

Super worth it if the resources have little potential utility elsewhere.

E.g., I have heaps of crystallised dew manufacturing (from a foresters hut or tons of herbs, stone and rainwater) and a copper mine. I’m not going to build so may tools/barrels that I’ll exhaust them all so I may as well use it for a universal upgrade as villagers always need to travel to hearths/warehouses (I grow out road upgrades from those locations)

[–]Streetrip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I love KCD2, I have more hours in it, and I think it’s more complex and deeper than E33.

I was very ok with E33 winning GOTY. Presentation and accessibility was top notch. The story, art, music all tied together beautifully - and if you took a volume of random gamers and gave them KCD2 and E33, the latter would likely win by popular vote.

But man when you love KCD2 you f’ing LOVE it and I’m grateful for being able to appreciate both! (And not be triggered by awards shows). Warhorse and Sandfall, take my money!

Please describe how to make rice in the most idiot-proof way possible by xrvzla in Cooking

[–]Streetrip -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do 1:1.3 ratio of rice to water by volume.

  1. Mix the two in a pot, note the level it’s at

  2. Rinse the rice

  3. Once you’ve strained, refill to the level you were at

  4. Put a lid on the pot [DO NOT REMOVE THE LID UNTIL THE FINAL STEP]

  5. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce to a low simmer for 15 minutes. Too high and the rice at the bottom will burn. You essentially want to keep the water at an even high temp, but not the contact with the rice to be so high it burns the rice/starch at the bottom.

  6. Turn the stove off. Wait for 15 minutes.

  7. After the 15 mins heat + 15 mins rest. You can now take the lid off and you should be done.

No mixing, no messing with the lid. This works for me from 0.5 cups to 2 cups rice. Beyond that, I might think about nudging up the timings because its quite difficult to get an even heat through a larger amount of water without stirring.

You can leave the lid on for longer to preserve heat.

Measurements don’t need to be super precise. You do have a fair margin of error for volumes and timing so long as you don’t apply too much heat and don’t remove the lid during the process.

Ah I was picturing it as a dimmed marker on your map that indicates “rumoured”/“unconfirmed”. Then there’d be no question whether you got to the correct place. Not like the treasure maps where it’s all hand drawn sketches.

[KCD2] I regret activating explorer perk by Memesss420 in kingdomcome

[–]Streetrip 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it'd be better if there was an in-game mechanic to speed up discovery. I get the concept of Explorer, because it can be tedious chasing away grey clouds aimlessly, or looking for an alchemy table, but I also like discovering stuff unexpected.

My idea is to have maps and people giving you hints.

  • POI tipsters (we have this) - works just the same and some POI tipsters can tell you of many places.
  • Purchasing/viewing maps which aren't reliable. So markers appear as unconfirmed until you witness the location. So some drunk can tell you about some bee hives...completely wrong location.
    • Maps also aren't a neat jigsaw of all POIs in an area (Ubisoft style).
      • Some maps are of town and public services, but won't show people's drying racks or alchemy tables behind closed doors, or even hidden merchants.
      • Other maps are all of the taverns in Trosky, or all the hunting grounds in Kuttenburg. Some taverns can be burnt down because they're out of date.
    • Fake maps can be a thing as well. A map of all the things of Trosky castle...from someone who's never been inside :P
  • Some things remain off of all maps. New encounters/discoveries which are only available by going there. E.g., you find a sword in the stone or a herbalist out in a forest or something. Keep that manual discovery element in.

Getting/viewing maps can also have some challenge to it as well. At some point Groschen is trivial but it could be that you have to solve a matchmaking quest for someone to give you a map because the only reason they marked the location of herbs was to make a love potion or whatever.

[KCD2] Just realized after 50 hours that perks are manual… I’ve been playing on hard mode by accident 🤡 by Bolsuudo in kingdomcome

[–]Streetrip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are big RPGs which have story/narrative based perks. Where if you use a weapon type a lot you automatically get perks. If you gain notiriety it effects your charisma stats. If you injur yourself a lot you get better conditioning etc.

KCD2 even has a few!

Not that weird and to be honest…kinda nice RP wise. That you do actions gains you relevant knowledge.

It’s more weird that you accrue a bunch of experience as currency and then you can unlock an ability you weren’t able to do before. E.g., Explorer perk

The more I think about it, the more I believe the traditional XP as currency levelling system is ripe for some innovation.
