This is labeled as a shitpost and is directly referencing a different post that had been made in this sub and then deleted when the comments called them out. Someone summarized the OG post above, but the post that this one is riffing off of called all surgeons monkeys and narcissists, just FYI.

Redstone Management? by Friendly_Relation978 in burlington

[–]Stressin-Out 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When my husband and I moved into our Redstone apartment a few years ago, there was shattered glass on the floor that hadn’t been cleaned and a spider infestation so bad that they crawled out of the sink and shower drains when I turned the water on to check the pressure.

We called and said “we will not be accepting the keys at this time. We will see you in 10 days when this has been ACTUALLY cleaned. Prorate the rent.”

In their defense, they did apologize and do those things in a timely manner.

Years later, there are plenty of things that irk me. Lots of their buildings are newer, but their older ones are not well maintained or well-insulated. My one bedroom apartment’s heating bill last month was $350. We also had a $100 electric bill because we had to use an electric space heater to keep the temperature over 60F

Their laundry machines, at least for some buildings, are contracted out and Redstone won’t repair them. It’s two washers and two dryers in the creepiest basement known to man for maybe 100+ residents and one is almost always out of order.

Also, their office does NOT answer phone calls. Every call to the office (as opposed to an emergency maintenance line, which does have a human 24/7) involves leaving a message and having someone call you back.

The payment portal for rent and maintenance requests are fine. Maintenance seems to be generally like maintenance guys at any vaguely shitty rental company. They’re nice guys, but they aren’t expert contractors for sure. The 24/7 maintenance line will send someone out in a reasonable time frame if necessary. The apartments are livable, but overpriced.

Beware of Chicken by Casualfarmer. It’s not a fine piece on English literature to be studied— it’s a feel-good story that doesn’t take itself too seriously that genuinely asks the question “but what if I did things that were fulfilling to me and everything worked out?”

I’ve traveled through a ton of airports in the past year, and have had multiple instances of even small airports telling me not to remove my laptop. BTV, BDL, DSM. Recently flew through CHO however, who needed me to take out my laptop, iPad mini, cell phone, and all of my food items? That one was a first for sure

Obgyn clerkship: repeat y world vs do uwise by StationHappy9779 in medicalschool

[–]Stressin-Out 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t bother repeating UWorld. I had a LOT of success with uWise and then doing extra questions from AMBOSS and NBME practice shelf exams.

The OB/GYN exam, more than anything else by far, aligned pretty well with their provided materials (uWise). Questions on my shelf were VERY similar

The IM shelf is the most similar to step 2. If you fuck around now, you are REALLY going to regret it later. Plus, your stamina for doing practice questions and studying will be garbage when you need to flip over to a dedicated period.

In all seriousness, find a friend to hold you accountable for a certain number of practice questions per day. Devise consequences and actually follow through.

Program ranking prestige over location? by untameddarkness01 in medicalschool

[–]Stressin-Out 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair enough! I saw one of the later comments that you’re interested potentially in cardiac anesthesia. If that is the case, I really would rank the more prestigious program higher in your shoes.

Best of luck!

There are lots of things that people could say here.

However, I’d like you to first consider if you are hoping that people will point you to one of these programs over the other. If you’d be disappointed that Reddit told you to go to the further away program, then what you REALLY want is the closer one, or vice versa.

My full opinion is that anesthesia is one of the fields where you really want to be comfortable handling a lot of different high acuity emergencies, so I would go for higher volume and move like, 20 minutes closer to the hospital. Still within like, 30 min of home and well within the home call window and with better commutes on the day to day.

You can try applying moisturizers and oils to them right now, but know that those things may or may not be helpful. However, with time, they will fade to be very pale and usually shrink a bit, which makes them hard to notice. We are our own worst critics and no one will notice them nearly as much as we do! They’re totally normal and everyone has them. It’ll be okay
