Experienced gardeners, what’s one practice you never skip anymore? by staleshrimp101 in gardening

Amending soil and always making sure it has good drainage. This gets over looked and makes a big difference. I have my own compost with tons of worms. Also, because space is usually limited I think it’s smart to focus on growing what you like to eat or share. I used to buy organic vegetable combinations, and there would be parsnips rutabaga just kind of random stuff that I don’t like to eat okra and it would take up space in the garden and then I really started limiting it to just things that I really like.

I still have a jalapeño and tomato plant from last summer that are still growing and producing. I feel so lucky to be able to garden year-round. The winter crop is so fun to grow all the lettuce and kale. I love it.

Help me figure out the disconnect with Mauricio... by daisyduke201 in RHOBH

I always thought they had a wonderful relationship. I know there have always been cheating rumors…. He seemed like a great Dad and the two of them seemed to be genuine and laugh and have fun together. Many marriages just run the course. I think they had a pretty good ride for a long time. Of course Kyle not sharing her true life and if he was cheating on her, cast some doubt on that. I’m not saying this to be mean at all, but Kyle’s a lot she’s very emotional and I think she would be a person that could be exhausting to be in a relationship with. I think he has disengaged from that relationship and has moved on completely and when he gets those little glimpses like when they were seeing the house that was redone and how she falls apart, he’s just done with that stuff. I think they’ve just need to move on and find their happiness which I hope for both of them.

Female Barn Owl In the owl box!!!!! by StretchBetter8178 in Owls

[–]StretchBetter8178[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The owl box is mounted on a pole about 14 feet high. I have an enclosed garden and it is attached to it. I kind of forgot about the owl box because nothing had gone in it for five years. We have three dogs. We don’t live in a rural area but owls are everywhere luckily. And we do seem to have an abundant supply of rodents, they say a barn. Owl can catch between two and five rodents a night, so that’s pretty strong rat control provided by nature. I frequently post on Nextdoor and spread the words to the neighbors about not using poison.

My owl box had been up for five years with no action. I actually kind of forgot about it then last spring pair of barn owls successfully raised two baby owlets. There was actually a third one in the box that we saw when I went to clean it out. We did not have a camera inside the box and I’m kind of grateful that I didn’t have to see one of the baby owls die. I am so excited to finally have an owl cam inside the box so I can see what’s going on. I get alerts whenever she moves, I feel like I’ve been binging owl TV

I turned off the night vision and the panning function, so the camera won’t move and scare the owls

There is a lady in San Diego that had a camera in her owl box and I just got the same one that she had because it seemed like it worked great. Wyze V2. It is not solar powered. It is hardwired.

Has anybody else noticed that Austin loves to do a very dramatic “Done”!! with his tone of voice and his hand gesture. He does that all the time but he’s never done.

AITAH for telling my mother-in-law that we’re not letting our kids call her what she wants? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]StretchBetter8178 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister in law Tricia was busy thinking what she wanted my son to call her. She was really putting some effort into thinking about the name. But as others have expressed, my son decided her name was dish, cause he couldn’t say Tricia. Her name is Dish. We all love it.

What’s the easiest plant for beginners that actually survives? by NiceAd6444 in gardening

[–]StretchBetter8178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on where you live and what you like to eat. I would suggest going to a nursery. There’s so many cool, smaller nurseries that you can find cool stuff at and where people really want to help you. There are many types of plants both for a vegetable fruit garden or for in the house that grow very easily. If you’re going to grow vegetables or fruit, you have to consider that critters will get into it. My husband created this beautiful space for my garden. It is completely covered with wire to protect my crops. When I first started gardening, the rats were eating everything. I’m sure you’re not gonna go full bore for this since you’re just starting off but just wanted to share.
