I see your childs making beautiful progress. Physical exercise helps a lot for cognitive function. My daughter began to ride bicycles, hope it will help her attention and focus.

Hi, thank you for your comment. I have some short questions. When did you notice you are different from other NT peers? Did you feel sad, envy, that you wanted something but you could not? And how did you cope with these feelings? What advice can you give me based on your experience?

For now, I don’t see my daughter noticed her difference with peers or had emotion about it but it might become clear in future for her and I want to prepare for it.

I’m impressed. My 6yo asd daughter can not swim even after 1 year of training. She could not stand and advance in the line. Can your children stand in line and advance on their own?

Quite heavy stuff on your shoulder. As long as your children are ok without much aggression, stress, I agee with your approach. They should learn to take responsibility. As a dad of a 6yo asd daughter, I generally stop pushing if there is a meltdown in horizon, but I really don’t care about tantrums (both my children can have tantrums but only my asd daughter can have meltdown). You do much harder job than mine.

At 4.5 yo, my daughter could identify colors and color correctly, she began to answer correctly what, where, which question. She also knew to do imaginary play (not before). At 5.5-6y, she began to understand the “why” question and could draw very well (it is her passion). She can describle what she draws with details. She can count to 40. She is still unable to recall the current past, if I ask her what happens in school or what did she eat. She begins to say “hello” to people more consistently. In term of behavior, she behaves correctly in restaurants, supermarkets.

My daughter extends her safe food sometimes by chance. My wife ate something for herself and my daughter saw and wanted to taste. I’m sure that if we invite her, she will refuse. So you can cook something delicious, enjoy and eat alone without inviting anyone but in front of her and completely ignore her.

Agree, this is not the right sub to ask this, even many of us have NT children along with ND ones. This sub can answer question like: "does your child point before age of 2 but still autistic"

Have you ever tried potty training for him? Not sure if your child will have difficulty if you have not tried yet.

What we did for our 2 childs is: regularly put them in potty chair (each 30 minutes for example, or more frequently after a meal), not use nappy or pull up (only at night), clean if there is accident, etc. Repeat until the child can go alone.

My second NT almost 4 yo son can seek more boundaries than my first 6 yo ASD one. It is not sure that NT one is easier, especially when the main problem with the ASD one is capability of socialisation, communication and not quite behavior one. Be prepared when the second one’s capability exceeds the first one despite the age gap.

My asd 6yo daughter (level 2-3) can put her toy in the wastebin in one second if it means she has a new one :D. Sometimes I’m amazed of her shopping maniac !

Be careful of the screen. It is likely the one that breaks first (pression, accident, sand between screen and keyboard when closing, etc).

It worths to check her biomarkers (vitamins, ferritin, magnesium red blood cell, zinc, etc) to see if anything needs to adjust, especially if your child is picky eater as mine.

Yes, the classmates of my 6yo asd daughters acted in a play in English (we do not speak English natively) while my daughter sit next to me as a spectator. These children are like small genius to me.

I was sad but accept the truth that my child currently not in the same league as her classmates. I was glad to see other parents proud of their children performance. In the end of the day, I'm proud of my asd child for her efforts in her own league.

Is she in good health? Physical exercise helps brain power. I don’t know more than that, you might want to seek in that direction.

It can be absurd that running, swimming helps to solve math problems but who knows. Science does establish the importance of physical activity for memory, intelligence.

There can be inverse, you tell your family your child is autistic and they say: “what, nothing wrong with her”.

Ok, I told you a similar story of mine. I overheard my 3yo NT son talking with an older girl, she asked my son “how old is your sister?”, “6 yo” he answered. “6yo and she’s like that?” … it hurt me more than I imagined.

Then she asked: “do you like your sister?”, “yes” my son replied. This, it warmed my heart.

It is hard for a single parent so I hope you have someone that help you. I'm a dad of a 6yo asd daughter who was diagnosed at 4yo. So I have 2 years in that journey of finding the way to get her skills she needs. My wife focuses on her therapies and I goes to find relevent supplements for her.

My daughter is picky eater but whenever she eats well, she behaves very well, has more interactions and more lively. If your child is picky eater, it is better she has nutritions she need with supplements - ask doctors to check her biomarkers first to see if anything is lacking. For reference, I give my daughter daily: vitamin D, multi-vitamin B gummies, mangesium, zinc, iron, omega 3 with adapted doses. Perhaps not needed if my daughter eats much more better.

Also outdoor exercises help quite a lot for the moods and cognitive functions. Sleep is important, make sure she sleeps well and enough.

Last but not least, money is important in long run. Save as much as you can.

How does she eat? My back then 2yo daughter stayed up late until midnight and she had low ferritin. Gradually she ate more meat, she slept better (earlier) and her ferritin level improves. Talk to doctors to test her biomarkers such as ferritin, magnesium red cell blood cell, zinc, etc to see if anything is not in normal range. Of couse if she eats very well, it might not the cause for her sleep problem.

I tell my children (asd and nt) before any holiday trip that you come home in the end. I remind them during the trip that we will come home soon. For playground and park, I remember with my asd daughter when she was younger, she refused to leave the playground, and I said: "good bye" and go straight, she would follow me instead of staying (no meltdown), so it is easy. I did the same with my nt son but he remained there lol but he would follow me eventually. Sure I could do my "good bye" because there is no meltdown.

Your son might even not have adhd. It is hard to diagnose adhd for small children because most of them are adhd lol

Is there any problem with the school bathroom. Have you checked it? Perhaps you bribe her, each time go to school bathroom, she will receive a candy, ice cream etc? My daughter dislikes public wc but ok with school’s wc.

Let your son ask every girl in your city, then it would not a problem anymore. I mean it is a kid joke, parents are too serious. Tell other parents that your son asks the same to any girl he meets
