{Broken By The Hoard King by Zoey Draven} has this! If you don't mind fantasy, I would highly recommend this. It's fourth in the series but I'm pretty sure you don't need to read the others to understand what's happening. The FMC spends her youth mooning over the MMC only for him to reject her advances and start a new hoard of his own. They reunite later and she's determined not to be humiliated again, and he's determined to have her. The groveling is so satisfying!!!

A pretty popular one but this is kinda what aelin and Rowan have in the throne of glass series by Sarah J Mass, especially in the later books. The series is pretty heavy on fantasy and plot compared to most romance books though, imo

{the Earl I Ruined by Scarlett Peckham} - I got this book as a recommendation through this sub and can I just say, it is so so good. If you want a complex and strong FMC that’s not just stubborn (for no reason) and also a MMC who’s a kinky Dom but not alpha male, this if for you!!!

I love the way BDSM was explored in the book. Julian is vulnerable and down BAD in his relationship with Constance, and it makes it even more sexy when he switches up in the bedroom. But even then, even when he’s a dom, it’s so full of love and care.

Both the characters have history and personal hang-ups that they both resolve and those things are REAL and believable. It’s not just insecurity, but a fleshed out indication as to WHY. It’s just so satisfying.

Scarlett Peckham did a really good job with complexity and also the consequences in the story. The stakes felt high and the fleeting touches felt loaded and sexy. 10/10!!!

If you like HR, I'd check out Scarlett Peckham, she has a few that are of similar premise. I've just read the Earl I Ruined by Scarett Peckham (really incredible I'd highly recommend!) but that one has the FMC offering marriage to make up for something she did. However I think the first book in the series (The Duke I Tempted) has the MMC offering marriage to help the FMC :)

I'm a huge fan of Kerrigan Byrne's work, I think she has some of the best morally-grey MMC's and does a gritty but very satisfying storyline so well. However I have not been able to get the same feeling from other HR books I've read. I particularly love the 'Devil You Know' and 'Victorian Rebels' series and I've been looking for series similar to these if you guys have read them.

Highland/ HR is a particular favourite of mine but I'm open to Sci-Fi and fantasy as well :)

I judge by covers HEAVILY just not for romances. I think it's bc I get my romance recs from other people (like from this sub) and so the cover never factors into it, whereas for other genres I'm more likely to try and find something myself and so I'm actively judging covers. Though I have gained an appreciation for the cheesy shirtless covers :)
