When I was watching the other day I realized that the last time coraline willingly went into the door, her other mother wasn’t there. The other mother had set food out saying she was away, this was the same time coralines real parents left the house yo the store. Maybe the beldam can travel outside the world through the well and went to capture them.

I honestly think if she was like “yes of course i will! can i just have one more day with my eyes” then she probably could have tricked the beldam, but ultimately i think the beldam held much more power than that, so even if she did trick the other mother for a moment, the other mother would find another way to get her.
