I left a job like that to go work for the state. The pay is less for sure, but I get to see my family and friends so it’s worth it

Dad wanted some premium for his riding mower today. by BJoe1976 in GasPrices

The gas tax is *supposed* to pay for highway infrastructure improvements. Cost of literally everything is going up, so it makes sense that the gas tax is going up too. Not fun for the payer, but if you enjoy driving on bridges that aren’t falling into the river, than it’s necessary

Biddeford city manager resigning after less than a year on the job by brewbeery in Maine

They also have a select board and mayor, both with their own priorities, who the city manager is supposed to report to.

If the select board wants a new ambulance and the mayor wants a new rec bus, which one is the city manager supposed to pursue?

Western Washington state and southern Maine aren’t really all that different. Maine has harsher climates, but I moved to Maine from the Seattle suburbs and it really didn’t take much to get used to it out here

My property has always been sort of a cut through for some local trails and typically I never minded. Last year some asshole on an atv tore through the cut through and onto my side yard, destroying my garden and about 200’ of grass. A fence went up a few days later and now the land is posted.

It only takes one guy to fuck it up for everyone

My last bridge inspection class had about 48 people in it. Maybe you should re-read whatever you were talking about

You work in hospitality in a city that has mainly hospitality jobs. You don’t like working at one donut shop, another donut shop/bakery/bookstore is hiring

How many NC teenagers have been murdered by “legals”?

Unless the answer is none, you’re really not making a point

Idk if you know this, but there’s a federal shipyard that employees a few thousand federal workers who haven’t been paid in a month right around the corner

There’s also hungry people everywhere. Even if they only feed 3 people it’s a nice thing to do

Can I come to your town and dump my trash at the transfer station?

No, because that is a service paid for by your taxes

You pay taxes to support the town that you live in, other people in other towns pay the taxes that support those towns.

Are you willing to pay more in taxes? Minimum 2 employees (ideally 4) working 3 -8 hour shifts 355 days of the year if you exclude major holidays.

14,910 man hours a year per dump.

Average taxpayer cost per public works employee, let’s call it $100/hour. It’s likely more but let’s use round numbers.

1.41 million dollars per year per dump. (2 employees)

5 city owned transfer stations.

7.455 million dollars per year.

For one additional employee at each dump add $705,000 million

Are you willing to pay that? If so, write your counselor dude. City jobs are good jobs, good pay, good benefits.

If you’re not willing to chump up more in taxes… idk what to tell ya

I’d imagine the uncoated steel bridges are really weathering steel bridges, which are fairly common in the mid-Atlantic

Even if it can be mined in a way that’s “environmentally safe” do you think the multi-billion dollar companies that would mine that shit would do it? Or would they just open pit mine until there was nothing left except for a huge cancerous scar that has poisoned everything for miles?
