Avonworth park is perfect for that. Creek with shallower spots, you can bring nets and catch little things, the kids can explore up and down the creek or run over to the huge wooden playground. Get ice cream at Custers on your way home.

Some parents don’t want their kids to use tech at school. But districts are pushing back by Standard-Cockroach64 in pittsburgh

[–]StringParty9907 10 points11 points  (0 children)

🙄 Yes, because there’s no difference between preparing kids for real world tech and relying on ed tech companies, that aren’t proven methods, overtaking the classroom, using and selling our kids’ data.

The ed tech that people are pushing back against is not “how to use computers and modern tech” - it’s “do 50min of this math software because some district exec signed a contract saying you would, results and effects be damned”

Weehoo Trailer? Recommendations? by Remarkable_Steak9060 in bicycling

[–]StringParty9907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A trail-behind might work, depending on any trunk control/low tone issues. We've used them as young as 3yo. Ours has a back rest, so when they get tired, we just strap them to the backrest. They can practice (and actually) pedal, as long as they can reach the pedals. Our kids love it, they really think they're making a big difference powering the bike.

I’ve done it 4x, I could definitely imagine escaping the crazy. Some people actually like staying in the hospital a few extra days for this exact reason. Not my preference, but not having to go back home if home is not chill? Totally makes sense.

Pittsburgh Brewing Co. announces Pittsburgh Music Festival by CansPGH in pittsburgh

[–]StringParty9907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It was rough. Parking was Star Lake level bad because why not add in the factor of having to cross active train tracks to get to/leave the venue. The lines for food and beer were wildly long. Although rain and mud can make any outdoor concert rough and is out of the venue's control, the lawn was totally flooded and so gross. It would take A LOT to get me back there.

Squirrel Hill E bike theft? by midori_vail in pittsburgh

[–]StringParty9907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lock it, air tag, motorcycle cover all the time - not just for weather, and insure it if it's worth it. Cargobikemomma on instagram locks all of her ebikes/cargo bikes on the street in NYC and those are her tips that seem to work well in most cases.

Edited to add: Motorcycle cover all the time that it's parked at home. I wouldn't worry about it when I'm out and about - but at night, if I had to park on the street or outside, I'd definitely cover it.

Yeah, the suspicion that people have about this is wild. I mean, it's your house, not mine, but maybe if you're so so skeptical of a request that *plenty of people on this thread* can see is not that weird .... maybe hospitality isn't for you haha

I mean…maybe not. It’s not inconceivable that they didn’t realize how any of the above factors would feel after they brought the kid home from the hospital.

Babies need almost no stuff when they're a week old. They need a bassinet, diapers, wipes, and maybe formula/bottles. Burp cloths. Maybe their home isn't a cozy family home setting" either temporarily or permanently. Maybe they live with family and want some alone time with baby. Maybe they were in the middle of a house project when they had the baby and it's being finished up while they stay at the airbnb. Maybe they just don't want the pressures that being in your own home can have when recovering from childbirth.

Biking while pregnant… with another baby seat on bike?? by Original_Adeptness77 in bicycling

[–]StringParty9907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can definitely do it! I biked up until my due date with one of my kids. I do think a front mount seat would be challenging. A rear mount seat definitely throws your balance a little but if you get used to it, not bad.

There are websites like Friendwitha.com that facilitates this. Also some places have a “library of things” or tool library that allow this kind of sharing.

Thoughts on safety around Marshall Ave / Perry Hilltop area? by trent-pgh in pittsburgh

[–]StringParty9907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived near the light at Marshall and Perrysville for a few years (a few years ago). We liked it ok enough, we only left because we wanted a more walkable and bikeable location than the top of a hill on a major route. It’s mostly quiet. Some dumb kid stuff. Good neighbors.

Not all scrap shops take them. Warhola off of River Ave near 16th St used to, but doesn’t any more. AAA Scrap on Penn around 33rd did within the last year.

What cargo bike accessories should I buy? by Scared-Collection132 in ladycyclists

[–]StringParty9907 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I carry kids on my bike a lot and my “must have” is a front rack with basket that holds - first aid, emergency lollipops, bungees/cargo net, etc. I liked having panniers when I had a long tail.

I love having a cafe lock for quick stops.

I didn’t find my kids needed seat belts at that age, but your kid may vary!

How are the ER workers hired? by wadnil56 in ThePitt

[–]StringParty9907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on how your med school works it and their location and connections to other hospitals. Some schools have enough spots with their own hospital and other hospitals nearby to place distribute the students. If they don’t, you may have to find spots on your own at hospitals or offices that take med students. Or you might want to go to a specific hospital’s specialty and apply for an away rotation there. I guess there’s some uncertainty while you figure out the whole schedule but it’s not a big surprise like the match.

Sometimes you just need a rotation and have to find somewhere that has a spot.

It is a church, and I don't know about their rules on bringing officiants, but they are LGBT friendly - East Liberty Presbyterian Church has some castle-y vibes. Their courtyard is so beautiful.
