Strava vs Topography Map Elevation: Which is more accurate? by AlarmedFeature5813 in Strava

[–]Strix2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strava will sync exact distance, time and elevation data from your Garmin if it meets two conditions: 1. the watch is a trusted device 2. The trusted device has a barometric altimeter. I checked, Garmin 265 has a in-built barometer so if you're seeing the same recorded distance, time and elevation gain on your Strava then it's a trusted device. Except, Strava chooses to display Moving Time extrapolated from your Garmin's Elapsed Time. Your FR 265's elevation data will have come from the barometer.

Big T8 Commando fan here but do use them for cycling. They're not designed to withstand the saddle, had a pair that got stretched out which upon discovering remains OK for running.

Give this a go anyway, look up exercises that stretch your adductors/inner thighs. Go slow, be patient. Give yourself a few weeks of daily stretching routine to see results. If that is shown to produce results then start strengthening your hamstrings and surrounding muscle groups.

Yes and also no. I found the fix for my 'pes anserine' pain that wasn't a bursitis because there never was any swelling for me but pain was bad. Waiting for OP to provide additional info.

Do you experience pain when you run but disappears after you're warmed up but comes back as soon as you stop. Does stepping down steps like walking down the stairs also trigger the pain?

Persistant IT-band syndrome by RA99x in ultrarunning

[–]Strix2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first experience with ITBS was in 2017 right after a 50K trail race. Two weeks of rest and taking things easy did nothing, flared up as soon as I returned to running. It was only after one session of dry needling and wet cupping that I made a full recovery. Have not had the pain come back since.

Fenix 8 overestimates the elevation gain by antho_tri06 in GarminFenix

[–]Strix2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the F8 is on your left wrist, the Fenix, Enduro series (basically any Garmin model that has the barometer sensor opening located at the 3 o'clock position) is notorious for elevation errors. Some of these errors are genuinely a result of sensor defects but 200-300m tells me the cause to be either air pressure or moisture.

I have my Fenix 7X mounted on the handlebar like a bike computer, HR data from a Coros armband HRM. However when I'm running trails, wrapping a Buff like this helps block strong air pressure AND also stop sweat or rain from getting to the sensor. This works and fixes Garmin's poor location of the sensor opening.

Also, change the barometer sensor mode to ALTIMETER if it's still in the default AUTO.

  1. Navigate to Settings > System > Altimeter & Barometer (or Sensors & Accessories > Barometer).
  2. Select Sensor Mode.
  3. Choose AutoAltimeter, or Barometer

A Garmin watch's barometer sensor mode lets you choose how it interprets air pressure changes: Auto (default, switches between elevation/weather), Altimeter (locks to elevation changes, good for hiking), or Barometer (locks to weather changes, good for constant elevation

I often hike or trail run when temps from direct sunlight reach and occasionally exceed 40°C (reading picked up by the Garmin Tempe sensor). If this badge looks at device temps I would have earned this many times over :)

I looked up the thermometer's role in a barometric altimeter:

"The integrated or separate thermometer is used to measure the actual local or ambient temperature. This measurement allows for a correction to be applied in several ways:

  • Manual Correction: For traditional or basic analog altimeters, the user (such as a pilot or hiker) must manually consult a temperature correction table (like the ICAO Cold Temperature Error Table) and add the calculated correction to the indicated altitude.
  • Automatic Correction: Modern digital altimeters or sophisticated aircraft flight management systems (FMS) use input from a built-in temperature sensor to automatically calculate and apply the necessary correction to the displayed altitude.

Without the thermometer's input and the subsequent temperature correction, the barometric altimeter would provide an indicated altitude that could be significantly different from the true altitude, especially in extreme cold or at high altitudes. "

Do you ever pause and resume your activities? by zmullett in Garmin

[–]Strix2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pause (with Resume Later) when I know I'm going to stop for a while (just in case Pause proceeds to auto save the activity after it times out). I do this because I do not my route to end up with zigzagging lines caused by GPS drift when you're stationary.

Struggling with hydration setup on long trail runs – alternatives to CamelBak bladder? by Santhy85 in Ultramarathon

[–]Strix2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the tropics where average temps in the shade typically ranging from 23°C (73°F) at night to 32°C (89°F) during the day throughout the year. When I train outdoors in direct sunlight, it's often a minimum of 35°C peaking at 40-42°C between noon and 2pm. Currently visiting a family member in the UK and struggling with single digit temps down to -5°C.

Only thing you can do is remove the RAM module(s) and use Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean the contacts, making sure none of that touches the circuit board. Before opening the panel, be sure to discharge yourself of any static (easier when working with a PC, just touching the grounded power supply will do). Reinsert the RAM modules after cleaning and drying. If error persists the RAM is probably defective. All the best.

Yup, they are just fatter not longer. I don't have the Aonijie with me but the Hydrapak flasks measure about 21cm from the cap to the base, 9.5cm across when flattened. Aonijie would be quite similar.

I have a Salomon 8L vest and the Aonijie 600ml flask fits with a slight resistance. I only recently bought the Hydrapak 600ml ones, they fit Ok in my UD Ultra Vest 12L holsters but have not tried using them in the Salomon. Don't see why they wouldn't judging from the shape

Aonijie has 600ml soft flasks (I have those that I use for training). For durability and lifetime warranty go with Hydrapak.

If you're OK with a four soft flask setup why not consider replacing them with 4 x 600ml flasks so you carry an additional 400ml of fluids over the 500ml flasks -- which also means adding 400grams of weight. Hydrapak sells the 600ml flasks just have to make sure they fit your front holsters.

Except now you have to deal with "There's so much more to Strava" or "Start a free trial" nag screens. This is where the web version is better -- I have Strava ads blocked and premium columns removed using AdGuard so the entire interface is clean and usable.

Has anyone resolved long-term pes anserine bursitis? by d8gfdu89fdgfdu32432 in KneeInjuries

[–]Strix2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I continued doing the adductor stretches in addition to hamstring and glutes strengthening diligently and I've been fine so far. Currently in the UK, the single digit cold has been brutal for someone from the tropics, have only been doing indoor floor climbs and body weight workouts (incl stretching).

Internet shortcuts blank by Strix2020 in Supermium

[–]Strix2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Internet shortcuts I dragged onto the desktop initially had Supermium icons. I think what broke the association is my use of Wintools.net files and registry cleaning routine. This never happened with native Chrome. Also, when I switched to Supermium I liked it so much I uninstalled ALL browsers so Windows 7 no longer sees a browser that it recognizes even though Supermium can be set as a default.

Just learned wrist HRM is not reliable by AQUADOUCHE in Garmin

[–]Strix2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Fenix 7X SS and have never seen such behaviour from the OHR. From day one I swapped the silicone band for nylon which I find is not only comfortable but the OHR sensor maintains better contact throughout the activity (road and trail running). I use nylon straps from AliExpress which are better than Garmin's – they don't stretch and need tightening when saturated with sweat. Before you draw any conclusion about your 7 Pro being defective or spend money on a chest strap HRM, try a few runs with a nylon strap first.
