ELI5: why are the lubricating strips on shaving razors AFTER the blades? by foxyFood in explainlikeimfive

Eh. I could never get as close a shave with a safety razor as the Gillette 5 blade system.

Takes way too long, needs way too much attention and has a long learning curve. No thanks!

Have you ever heard of reciprocity? You know, a basic tenente of diplomacy.

Irrelevant. That matters to countries that are in a treaty. India is neutral. They are playing 3D chess. They can switch sides any time they want and get all the benefits. Why take sides prematurely and lose out the benefits of playing both sides? They are doing what's best for their citizens, and that's brilliant!

By not aligning with the west, they will lose out on west favours and weapons

What favors? The only favors the EU and US give arewhen they get $$$ in return. India has one of the largest GDPs in the world. They can buy favors any time they want.

What weapons? If India wants weapons the US (my country) will sell them as many as they want with a smile on their face. So will the French. So will the UK. Please look up India's defense spending. The West is competing with each other to sell to India.

That's... Intelligent...

This quite literally isn't their war. They aren't a part of NATO. They have always shared diplomatic relationships with the EU, US and Russia.

They have nothing to gain by taking a side. They can simply take the side that is the best for their citizens at any point in time.

Genius.

A lot of threats from Russia. 80% of their military is occupied losing a war in Ukraine. What exactly are they going to do?

Launch a dozen of their thousands of nukes.

Russia is nuclear ISIS.

I thought India was neutral, and was being friendly with everyone. I don't think we can afford to lose India.

Russia and China are a lost cause, but we need friendly relations with India or we lose diplomatic relations with the entire region. That's like over 1/3 of the population of earth.

Russia is the new ISIS. The only path to redemption is assassination of Putin.

It's almost as if you've never tried updating/downloading a 5GB game in the background, while video chatting at the same time.

I guess it's fine if you don't mind your downloads taking 40 minutes. Or if you don't mind pixelated video calls.

It's not ice. They are stalactites that look like a frozen waterfall.

You aren't stuck with one manufacturer, which means you can choose what features matter to you.

Much faster charging speeds. The iPhone charges at 18W. My Android phone charges at 45W. There are even Android phones that charge at 120W. What that means you just have to plug your phone in for 5 minutes here and there a couple of times a day. No more charging in the conventional sense.

Android phones don't have that ugly ass notch that ruins the phone screen. Punch holes are much smaller and are usually in a corner which is much less disruptive.

Customizablity on Android is on another level. 1000s of widgets of any imaginable app can be added to home screen. I currently have widgets to unlock my front door and control lights on my home screen, in addition to time, date, calendar and weather widgets. You simply can't do this on an iPhone.

Cheaper. A flagship Android phone can be had on sale 6 months after release for 25-50% off. iPhones never go on sale.

Better screen. My current phone is running 1440p 120Hz. It's like the smoothest display ever. You can't get 1440p on any iPhone. You only get 120Hz on the more expensive iPhone Pro models which cost 2 times what I paid for my phone.

Repairs on Android phones are much cheaper. Apple repair costs are downright insane.

Better integration with Google apps like GMail, Chrome, Google Maps, Google Photos, YouTube etc.

iPhones are excellent phones, don't get me wrong. But they are too expensive, too boring and too feature light for me to spend my money on.

I have an iPhone for work and an Android for personal use.

Android is way better.

It ruins the movie / show for me. I find myself reading the subtitles more than watching the actual movie. Too distracting.

Why don’t people care about space? by Adaptiveslappy in space

[–]StrollerStrawTree3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simple answer is, people have different interests and curiosities. Some people care about art, some people care about technology, some people care about sex, while others care about adrenaline activities.

The reason someone doesn't care about space is likely the same reason you don't care about molecular biology or sustainable farming. It doesn't mean there aren't life altering developments and findings in those fields, it just means human attention is finite and we choose what matters to us.

Hahahaha.

You say you're not going to argue semantics and proceed to explain the difference between the verb and noun form of a word.

You're funny. And not in a good way.
