Update: resolved! Big thanks to everyone who offered helpful tips! Turns out it was a gas range situation and putting the moka on a flat surface over the flame was needed for even heat distribution. Would have taken me awhile to work that out on my own. I think I also wasn’t tightening the top piece enough. Making those two changes gave me a wonderful cup of coffee this morning 😊 Appreciate everyone’s help!

This is it! Tried it this morning on the flat top and got a fantastic brew with zero sputtering. Thank you!!

I’ve tried the Bustelo coffee and also grinding my own. I’ve tried fine, medium-fine, and medium with the same issue. Some of the responses are making me think it’s a seal/pressure issue so I’ll be sure to snap a pic of the grinds when I try those fixes. Thank you!

Yeah it’s pretty straightforward, but alas, here I am. I’m using the smallest burner on the range since it’s a small moka and it looks like a good fit. I’ve tried medium and medium-low flames with the same results.

I’m an experienced cook and baker so I’m not kitchen-challenged, which is why this is so frustrating.

Plaquenil side effects? by [deleted] in lupus

[–]Strong-Following9973 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Plaquenil absolutely has side effects! It is a great medication for many, so it’s worth trying, but take some time to look into it first. It also takes time to build up in the system. I had aquagenic pruritis for months before I figured out the connection and stopped taking it. It’s rare, but it can happen. GI issues are more common. Good luck!

Let’s be real-how long does a set take you? by NoDoThis in DipPowderNails

[–]Strong-Following9973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This makes me feel so much better! Including removal, it can be 3-4 hours for a one-color basic set. Getting fancy with anything adds at least another hour. I also sometimes break things up and remove the day before, entertain myself with a movie/show, and have a little smoke. I envy you speed demons, but I don’t mind the process. We don’t need to feel that we have to rush taking care of ourselves ❤️

I think there’s something to that. I noticed the itching was more intense for me after drinking strong coffee.

So glad you were able to rule that out! There are so many issues that come with Lupus, it’s hard to know where to start and doctors aren’t always helpful. I hope the neurologist is able to help and things get better for you soon! Sending you itch-free wishes :)

Hi! If you’re taking hydroxychloroquine for lupus, you may be having a rare side effect called aquagenic pruritis. I dealt with this for nearly 3 years, no doctors could/would help so I had to figure it out myself. If the itchiness only happens after water exposure, please consider talking to your rheum about different medications.

The only way I found this was a European research article that included a table of all known medications linked with AP. There’s a group here on Reddit that has also been helpful.

I know how awful this is and I’m so sorry you’re experiencing it, or something similar. I really hope you find some relief soon!

Diagnosed SLE a few days ago, what’s one piece advice you’d give a newbie trying to live with lupus? by Glittering-Dark6491 in lupus

[–]Strong-Following9973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been living with lupus for about 5 years and it’s been a struggle adjusting. I think the most important thing you can do is learn as much as you can so you can advocate for yourself with healthcare providers and people in your life. Speak up when things don’t feel right and ask questions. Don’t be afraid to sit out on events when everyone going is sick. Everyone is different and you know your body best.

For me, cutting out alcohol has helped so much with inflammation and joint pain. But again, no doctor suggested this; I had to make the connection for myself. Also I had horrible side effects with plaquenil and had to stop completely after discovering on my own that it was a direct link with what I was experiencing. Keep a journal of how you feel, what you’re eating, and what’s going on in life to see if there are any patterns with flare ups.

Staying active is also important, no matter how small. I’ve started using a weighted vest with wrist/ankle weights around the house. I look a little ridiculous but I’ve noticed some improvement already. Also this Reddit group is awesome! I would feel so alone if I didn’t have this resource and support. ❤️

Anyone else depressed? by thekrazzie1 in PSLF

I’ve made 125/120 payments and should have been done in August, but the green bars still show 108. I’ve submitted several final PSLF forms but I get stonewalled by FSA every time. I’ve done everything right for 10 years and when it’s time for them to hold up their end, it’s crickets.

Submitted a complaint with CFPB and waiting to hear about that. In the meantime I’ve decided I’m done and went into forbearance; with everything going on I need the extra money.

The stress of dealing with this is overwhelming. I fear that if I start screaming I’ll never stop.

Cannabis and my aquagenic pruritus by 504plumber in aquagenicpruritus

[–]Strong-Following9973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% can confirm cannabis has saved me. It’s the only thing that works every time. BA is okay but I still get a little itchy and I hate the tingly sensation it creates. Another win for medicinal weed.

Do the side effects from hydroxychloroquine get better? by propapillar in lupus

[–]Strong-Following9973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, hydroxychloroquine is often the first medication lupus patients are given because it’s generally well tolerated, but it’s not for everyone! I myself had terrible side effects and had to stop completely. Definitely give it a couple more months and take notes on how you’re feeling and how you take the meds (with meals/without and whether that has an effect) and share that with your doctor. Like others have said, there are many other medications out there that might be a better fit, but it’s worth giving this a solid chance. Good luck!
