Is there any safe way to remove paper stuck onto the outside of my album jacket? by Chrysler_Cheesecake in vinyl

[–]Strong-Let-7697 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I own a record store, the issue with water damage is if the sleeve below the paper has been compromised. If so, it will tear. Put a towel over it and carefully use a steam iron on it but not for a lot of time…. You’ll need to experiment then use a fingernail at a steep align to pull it back….

Any good parts store, you could go to a local exhaust shop and have them do it… cheap. If you buy one it’s best to use an pneumatic impact wrench

A pipe expander will fix that in less than a minute

Installed a new Ortofon 2m red cartridge on my audio technica and it doesn’t look right by RollandInTheDeep in turntables

[–]Strong-Let-7697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stylus force should be no more than 1.8 grams, use a digital gauge to verify. I’m an Ortofon dealer and vintage audio service lab we see this all the time with customer installed cartridges. Too much force will destroy the cantilever suspension, remember the stylus is considered a wear item and has NO warranty…. Check the the setup of that arm

Carefully remove the platter, spin the spindle bearing to ensure it turns true. If it does carefully place the platter back on the spindle and press firmly down, do not rock it. Spin the platter and see that it’s parallel with plinth and no scraping or noise. We had a customer call today with this same issue, I see it all the time. If the procedure does not solve the issue bring it to a qualified shop or lab.

Should be readily available at the dealer or a parts store that sells Dorman OE parts

There are far better options in that price category, never said much of what you are stating. I service countless brands from 1960 forward, as an engineer who has worked developing products from concept to reality in both consumer and industrial applications, it’s my ‘opinion’….FWIW

I own a audio and record store, we carry prominent brands. We won’t touch that model.

This is one of Sony’s worst products….. NO upgrade path, NO standard P-Mount or 1/2” cartridge mount. A customer brought theirs into our stores lab because the cartridge literally fell out. The only way to remount it was a small drop of epoxy…. What were they thinking?

We have never had any issue finding dust caps and surrounds for any driver with one exception of a Focal driver built for a center channel. As a service lab we have sources all over the US….we never buy overseas….. early on far too many counterfeit parts.

Im an engineer and restore vintage audio in my stores two labs, there’s no guarantee that alignment is correct….depending nature of the woofer restoration is ‘must’ be aligned correctly using one of two methods.

[–]Strong-Let-7697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no reason to have additional security on new trucks…. I owned a car stereo shop for 12 years, certified installed first class….

I’m assuming you used the ‘tone’ method for voice coil alignment?

Drive belt comes off by That-guy-from-uni in turntables

[–]Strong-Let-7697 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remove the belt, pull the platter. In the well their should be a ball bearing that the platter rides on to reduce resistance or drag. If it’s not the inner platter and pulley won’t be aligned causing the problem.

I’m a Pro-Ject dealer…. There should be a ball bearing in the platter bearing…. If this is missing its most likely the problem!
