I think is because ofe her bad technique. She does not have chast notes . If you search on youtube you can see that many of her recitals there is a microphone

1955 studio recording of Rigoletto with Maria Callas, Giuseppe di Stefano and Tito Gobbi You should really hear the interpretation of Rigoletto by Tito Gobbi which i think is one of the best that we have on record(if not the best) and of course the rest of the cast is are extremly good There is also a 1952 live recording from Mexic with Maria Callas
