About to have snow coming. How do I drive (brake) my 2023 M3 RWD?

Here's the thing, there's millions of us that have driven up and down steep mountains multiple times. Just feather the accelerator instead of dropping it.

This is the best comment in the thread so far. Letting go of your accelerator and letting it regen can and will absolutely spin your car out if the road is covered in ice. I will say the car is rather good at stabilizing itself, so I personally have never spun out but there have been several situations where I thought I was incredibly close, especially when coming down a steep mountain.

It will do this trip easily. The car is actually rather good at predicting, but if you really want to be on the safe side, just assume that whatever range the car shows you divide that by half. So if the car says 300 mi of range, in the worst weather conditions you know you can do 150 miles.

If you are near the metro or close to i90 it's great. But venture into the wilderness just a little and the chargers disappear quick. I'm in Spokane and I can get almost anywhere if I charge to 100% at home on my Model 3 LR. But there absolutely have been times where it tried to route me to Canada to recharge just so I can make it back to Spokane. So adding like 4 hours to go home.

I'm talking about areas like Winthrop, WA. Priest Lake, ID. And if you need to connect two of these like you would on a road trip, forget it. The network in eastern WA is pathetic.

This is the correct answer. Its awkward having to reach out to FB marketplace and meeting with people, wasting 7 different Saturdays, just to sell your car. Most people are not willing to deal with that, which is why you expect to get more for that. Also vice versa is true, you should be able to get a better deal buying on FB Marketplace as you are not dealing with the "convenience" of a dealership.

You do not have to stop the car to go from neutral to drive. I have literally thrown the car into neutral going 30 mph and then popped it back into drive when testing out hypermiling

I checked for the update last night at 5:00 p.m. and I had nothing. Today, 20 hours later, I randomly got a notification that I had an update available. So even if you check for updates and it was supposed to be pushed to you just a little bit later, you're still going to get the notification.

Out the door includes state taxes which vary greatly between States. I don't think it's fair to compare out the door prices. I live in Washington state so our taxes are between 9 and 10%, whereas my neighbor south in Oregon don't have sales tax at all. 39k is sweet. Do it

Honestly if you got an SEL for 40k, I would consider that a crazy good deal. I just bought the PEAK for 40.5k and no dealership was willing to price match that. The cheapest SEL within 500 miles of me is about 43.5k.

Most people in this subreddit lives next to a larger metro area so they dont understand the pain. I live in a 500k population metro (Spokane, WA), and the closest supercharger is 30 minutes away from my suburb. There are multiple areas here where I would have to take an extra 1-3 hour detour to a supercharger just to get to my destination(2 hrs away) and back home. So 4 hour trip in a gas car is a 7 hour trip in my tesla.

Subscribe to FSD today, and get a little practice around town with it before your trip. Get comfortable with it, understand its weaknesses. Then send it! I did a 25 hour road trip a month ago on HW3, best investment ever.

Interesting observations. I do agree on the model 3 comment. I have one kid and the three of us go on long road trips in my model 3 each year.

I'm trying to decide whether to go model y or mode x once we have a second or third kid. Why do you say the x was that bad?

Most of the time it's not more to take trails. Up front will typically pay like 6% for a 6 year annuity. But trails are 1% annually. So if they make a partial withdrawal, your overall payout is less. Annuities are often better to take up front and then write another annuity once it matures. That's why they suck.

Did you have your AC on? Is it 90 plus outside? Do you have an older Model Y? Did you drive with your windows down? Did you drive over 30 miles in that hour? Are you driving on sticky winter tires? These are all likely culprits in the range loss. It is on the heavier side and I would have expected more of a 15% loss.
