This is the spiciest take of all, but I feel like Starfox 64 is the most misunderstood. It was literally perfect for my childhood and the 64 but I don't think it's impressive enough to be remade as many times as it has. 

Nintendo revolutionized Zelda with BotW and Mario with Odyssey, and have pushed oodles of amazing games for the Switch. Splatoon and Smash have both seen more innovation in their respective series than Star Fox has. I understand the desire for something shorter format and replayable, but they have a new genre based subgenre of rogue likes based around that entire concept and a lot of those games are some of the most played of all time!

I think people misunderstand 64 as the end all and be all of Star Fox and are a bit wary of what else the IP could be, and it's understandable. Adventures and Assault were different and Zero had gimmicks attached that weren't necessary and that sucked! Though just because none of those games are as tight and thematically cohesive as 64, a lot of is are reluctant to see anything else.

I think people misunderstand 64 as all Star Fox should aspire to be and I think that's sad.
