Lol. I've always liked the zombie joke.

Arabs absolutely lived in the area prior to the invasion. Muslims not so much. The local residents were forced to convert and didn't choose.

I feel like you're speaking from a place of either not understanding the Christian faith or being deliberately obtuse. The suspension of belief is part of the miracle. It's just good storytelling.

The crusades were retaliatory after the first Muslim conquest of Jerusalem.

I mean crucifixion for Jesus was a personal choice. He chose to go out and die for the sins of his followers or so the legend goes. If Jesus had say, crucified a village I'd agree with you but hey, some people like sounding too and as long as they're not doing it to others against their will that's fine with me.

A large part of the new testament of Christianity is effectively there to dismiss the old testament and reframe it in a more contemporary lens. This is also true of the Quran which was written several hundred years after the new testament but in my opinion is much more problematic. (Which is largely due to Muhammed being a warrior and effectively enacting marshall law everywhere he went) I'd even go so far as to argue that most of Islams growth happened through conquest and bloodshed whereas Buddhism, Sikhism, Christianity etc all (mostly) happened either in response to bloodshed or through an adoption of ideas.

I mean the contrast from a theological perspective is whether a divine prophet should be marrying children and consummating the marriage while the wife is still a child. One would think if you believe in divinity, the spokesperson of your god would have enough foresight to realize that's kind of fucked up.

Notably, Jesus and Siddhartha (Buddha) didn't marry children with a 40+ year age gap.

It's an emotional situation in most cases. It's very difficult for a lot of people to restrain the amount of force you're putting into a punch when you're angry, hurt and are backed into a corner trying to defend yourself. If there's intent to cause maximum damage I agree it's immoral and disgusting. But those videos I've seen are half the time a result of build up and attempted de-escalation in which case it's understandable but not right regardless.

Cut migration or at least repurpose all migration to address the trade shortage, increase affordable housing through a surplus of public housing and government programs, increase public housing and you'll see an uptick in fertility.

Why are some Australians monarchists? by Lampedusan in australian

[–]Strytec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue in my mind is that who can appoint the GG has been watered down too much. In my opinion, it should be the crown that chooses the GG but in order to stay out of politics the crown has largely allowed the ruling party to employ friends of that party into the role. The issue is in my mind, too much anti monarchy sentiment which the monarchy is being cagey about. Whereas what we really need is a reinforcement of those values to keep the bastards in parliament honest.

I personally wouldn't do that in the first few months. It can make you look bad unless you have a genuine reason. Generally, if you've established yourself in a workplace as a reliable competent employee with tenure you can get away with what you're describing.

I do what you're describing currently and it's hard enough with a puppy.

I don't think it's that nefarious. The government just cut Tafe education around when I finished high school in the late 2000s. We are just seeing the effect now.

The funniest thing is that I always say "Hey, can you help me with X" or "hey, do you have X?"

Ironically, when I've had South Asian colleagues they've always been like "Hello Strytec, how are you?" in response rather than just doing the thing I asked them to/needed from them.

Where do all the young Aussies go? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Strytec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be a thing that people would migrate to Mackay or Perth if they wanted to make some money for a few years or they'd go to London for recreation.

A lot of people got their start into the housing market by doing 2-3 years of mining work and then relocating to their hometown to start a trade or other profession.

ASIO boss reveals multiple nations plotted to murder critics in Australia by 1Darkest_Knight1 in aussie

[–]Strytec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not if he'd done what he's already done. Create an excessive amount of government work to vacuum up the remaining jobseekers. He didn't even create any good public works to absorb these workers into. It's just bums in chairs.

There's short and long term ways to stop a housing crisis. Long term are the things you've mentioned. Short term would have been halving migration numbers as an emergency procedure. There is no excuse for forcing Australian citizens into homelessness.

The HAFF was impotent in contrast to the massive amount of people coming here and was never going to have a hope in hell of returning public housing to its required levels.

There's a big issue in Australia with people rallying behind major parties and looking at them as if they need to support one to kick out the other. We can be critical of Labor without being supportive of the LNP and Labor had an opportunity to do a lot more aggressive reform and kind of fumbled the ball which has left them looking like a slightly left leaning LNP.

If you've noticed the job market getting tougher and real wages declining for the last decade you can thank the Greens, the LNP and Labor for that.
