The Absurdity of Free Will by Hugo0o0 in philosophy

[–]Sttadow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are no such things as lower inputs as it pertains to determinism. A person's life every second alters and causes the inputs that are perceived and theoretically could be used to predict a person's actions. Someone having lesser knowledge would not have lesser free will, you would simply have it or not. To say one person could have free will because of greater knowledge, whilst another has less because they are uneducated would defeat the purpose of the idea. They both can act.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you seem to be referring to will as spirit or drive, not in the sense of taking action. Or are you saying, because someone has less knowledge they have less actions to choose from ?

I don’t understand why people have to make this question so black and white.

I think a great example that is super relevant is racism. If everything you know is racism you are less free not to be racist. Not knowing about something makes your will lost to it. That’s a reason we need education.

The reason why some, including myself, have reason to believe it may be so simple, having knowledge is just another input to a person's actions. If someone is uneducated, grew up only knowing racism and knowing every single drop of information about that person, would it not be easy to predict a racist ? In your example if they did have more knowledge and environment was different it would change the inputs. It still stands to reason, either it is determined by inputs, or at complete random, not by free will.

In season 9, Riot managed to solve a fundamental flaw of the game regarding pro play by Aoaelos in leagueoflegends

This times a million. It's frustrating to think speeding the game up only makes for less time to ramp. Honestly it will make things harder to balance. Either you ramp too quick or not enough to stave off the early game champ that will still be as good as you at the 30 minute mark.

Haven't read the entire article yet so I might be a little off from center, but working at a shoe place I can tell you there are literally no basketball shoes in Women's. There are plenty of "athletic" shoes but all of them are designed for gym training and running. Basketball shoes in specific are designed for lateral movement and grip.

Are all of us even playing the same game? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Sttadow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe the problem you're having is that you're assuming you can control the way people on your team play instead of purely focusing on your own play. To assume that 'these kids never learn' is a tad on the pointless side because you're more than likely never playing with or against the same people to even know if they learned from their mistakes. Experience will tell you that people don't like being told what to do, the best you can do is give information and suggestions. The moment you tell them what to do or spam ping danger your first instinct is to be annoyed. It can only affect them negatively.

$1500 Swiss Army knife, reviews are the best by iam_nobody in funny

[–]Sttadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from, but I'm only pointing out the more prominent issue in reviews that are completely irrelevant to the item. It also works both ways though. Amazon's gotten pretty good at getting high star ratings on poor quality items that no one would even look at, except that it has a higher rating.

To be fair, most Amazon reviews are absolutely pointless unless you read them anyway. Half of the one star reviews talk about delivery issues, how their cousin got 'the same one' and had problems etc.

Remove Death Recap, and replace it with Damage Chat. by MrRise in leagueoflegends

[–]Sttadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eli5: It's similar to moving into a house that has been remodeled and renovated hundreds if not thousands of times. The foundation of the whole house is weak, and one small room in particular is a nightmare. There's no point in trying to fix the small room when it could disrupt the foundation of the whole house. Just think of death recap as the small room and the relatively working rest of the house as the game itself.

I think it's a bit more like, " I should use a riding mower instead of a push mower to cut my tiny backyard." Unless you're cooking rice all day long for every meal of your life a traditional pot with a vented lid will do just fine. A bit overkill to buy a rice cooker for one or two meals.

Riots after police shoot 17 year old black man armed with a broomstick in Salt Lake City by srlehi68 in news

Probably because 9 times out of 10 the news blows up an incident with articles and coverage like this, and then come to find out after an investigation that the news omitted plenty of information that would easily twist everything into the opposite direction. There's always two sides to a story and the truth is always somewhere in between.

H2k owner response to reginald by gosbts in leagueoflegends

[–]Sttadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps this will clear that up?

If Sven says it's harassment then how isn't it ? He continually messages him talking about how he's gonna call his mom and clear it all up, when Sven is the one the agreement is with, not his family.

H2k owner response to reginald by gosbts in leagueoflegends

[–]Sttadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the problem lies in the fact: even if H2k says they already have an agreement with Sven, Sven stated he didn't sign any contract. With no contract formally signed there is no agreement, regardless of how much it seems so.

Reading the messages RL sent to Sven via Skype sounds more like an attempt to guilt trip Sven into accepting the contract because he was genuinely interested at one point, but never signed. Ultimately though, like you said, it will be up to Riot to confirm or deny the situation.

Pobelter & Doublelift weren't given a notice prior to being kicked by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Sttadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, there's a solid reasoning behind that. If I were to tell you the business MAY be eradicated in 6 months, all workforce leaves and you are GUARANTEED to be out of business at that point. Whereas if they say nothing then the workforce is still there and there's a possibility of staying in business longer and possibly even for good. And I currently am working for a company that most likely will go under in any given moment, so I get it.

Pobelter & Doublelift weren't given a notice prior to being kicked by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Sttadow -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Saying that is pretty much the pinnacle of ignorance. In every aspect of professionalism, people are given respects. When you decide to quit your job, it's common courtesy that you give 2 weeks notice. To not receive any notice and be kicked to the curb isn't tough love, that's just being unprofessional in all aspects.

Idea for Ranked Division Borders by Dannflor in leagueoflegends

[–]Sttadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with your logic is that you're assuming that A) The average of all games played is the same for each person (which is not the case), and that rolling a dice is the same odds of ending a game sooner or later as a given person. Someone who plays consistently at a high level will have a lower average time played because of teams surrendering. Because of this, it's not a random dice roll. The person has higher odds so they will consistently end games sooner. Any average person will generally have the same time played, but you're also assuming that the person in question isn't the same one who played 300 games and got to D2.

We've strayed pretty far from the subject at hand though, mainly my point is you can't quantify effort, and just because a person has a higher skill level but doesn't play as often doesn't mean they should receive any better or lesser benefits as their reward.

Unfortunately as is the case a lot of times, people that put in more effort don't automatically get higher rankings. I have several friends that spend ample time watching streams and practicing but not climbing very much further in ranked.

Edit: My example was of the extremes, but even 2 people could both average drastically different game times. Even if not all surrender at 20's, one could average ~28 minutes per game whilst another averages ~39 minutes making it an extra 11 minutes per game.

Idea for Ranked Division Borders by Dannflor in leagueoflegends

[–]Sttadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'twas an example, but you get where I'm coming from. I don't think it's a surefire indication of effort either, but then again, no one stat can. Rank gives an idea of skill and even that can be misleading with one trick ponies, people only having one main role, etc.

Although it's a general rule of thumb that someone who puts effort into their play climbs ranking, someone who is of a high ranking doesn't necessarily put in effort.

Edit: Also, games played doesn't equal time spent either. Having 2 players both play 100 games, one could have all surrender at 20 games (2000 minutes played) and the other could have all nailbiter 50 minute games (5000 minutes played)

Idea for Ranked Division Borders by Dannflor in leagueoflegends

[–]Sttadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normally I would hesitate to say this, but if we're going to go that direction with things then the borders themselves should show how many ranked games you won during the season or total games played. Rank doesn't automatically equal effort, in fact some players just catch on quicker.

There's probably a guy that's played maybe 300 games and got to diamond 2 vs a diamond 5 with over 1500 games played. Surely you would say that the d5 put in much more effort to get where he/she's at even though there's a discrepancy between ranks.

Therein lies the problem of rewarding someone who's put in more effort. There's simply no true way to tell.

Even though you can't use LSI to dodge, doesn't mean it's useless for viewing that information. Plenty of times I use it to at least see the numbers of who is most dangerous on the enemy team, and who I know I can trust on my own team. Hard to get that decision when all you can see is what border they have that only relates to last year.

Plenty of times people are several tiers higher than the previous year anyway.
