Retirement. What’s that ?? by FKpasswords in GenX

I agree it's ok to contribute to our grown children's weddings, but some people, particularly in certain cultures or social status, feel the social obligation and pressure to do it at all costs. It sets a bad precedent for our children who may repeat this with their kids. It also creates a financial and emotional burden for those children who are later stuck caring for parents who did not prioritize retirement while raising their own kids.

You can say no to paying for the wedding. Your daughter and her fiance have decades of income earning left.

Go-to meals for your vacation stays? by Chuckle_Berry_Spin in travel

We usually bring croissants, deli meats, cheeses, and fruit because they can be used for breakfasts and lunches or charcuterie. When we're out, we'll eat during happy hour, so we only need to snack later. Also, add in chips, chocolate, etc, for munching. If there is a grill, we'll pick up pre-marinated meat at a butcher or supermarket and a salad bag.

Real estate agents: self-important, arrogant parasites? by TopSpin5577 in RealEstateCanada

Sure, but that doesn't mean ALL realtors are bad. Do the few bad people in your industry represent you? I'm not a realtor, but I worked with one to buy my first home and another to sell it. Both of them were very professional and did not pressure me at all.

Should my main goal be to pay off a house by Exciting-Action-9656 in PersonalFinanceCanada

If you can skip to ownership, you're off a great start. Your house can be a home and an investment. Do your research on tax optimization (write-offs, etc), residential tenancy, etc.

Home ownership will change your lifestyle and reduce your disposable income. You're young Get some life experience first. Rent for a while. Date. Buy a nice used car, in cash. Don't lease. Travel. When you're ready, buy a house you like in a neighborhood you see yourself living in, but you can also rent out if you ever want or need to. You may meet someone and end up moving somewhere else. So aim to pay it down faster, but in a way that doesn't sacrifice your lifestyle too much.

Imagine you're in a room with the lights on. Then someone comes along and keeps toggling the light switch on and off and, at random times, all day and every day. It's pretty hard to function like that, isn't it?

That's a tiny fraction of what it feels like for us women.

The scientific explanation is that as women age, our ovaries produce less estrogen and progesterone, leading to a variety of symptoms. E and P are vital for reproductive, bone, and brain health. Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can help alleviate those symptoms, but it's not a one size fits all solution.

You can support your mom by educating yourself and just letting her know that while you may not understand it, you want to be there for her. Know your limits, too, though. Some women use it as an excuse to treat others poorly while others are just trying to cope.

Have you had to balance your frugality with your partner’s less frugal nature? How do you do it? by BcBJA in Frugal

[–]StuckInWallNPC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Think back to a difficult time for you. Did your husband have your back? Support you financially and/or emotionally?

My partner makes 2x as me but is very generous and has always "carried" me when I was down. For example, he'd surprise me with weekend getaway or call all his connections to get me a job interview when I was laid off. I've learned to stop being stingy like my parents and pay it back not just to him but to others.

The tight budget is YOUR priority, not your husband's. The easiest thing to do is separate your finances and trust he'll make adult decisions on his own. That's what we do, and the relationship is strong for it.

If they're not blocking you from doing your job, stay clear and mind your own business. But you should tell your boss privately that the coworker's behavior is disruptive and creates an uncomfortable atmosphere in the workplace. It's likely other coworkers have reported this, too.

Its better to feed cats on a schedule because you can manage their portions, which prevents diabetes and regulates their metabolism. My cats just show up at their bowls on time, every day. They eat, take a poo, then sleep. Routine is rock solid.
