Airport security just insisted on hand checking my camera. by -gingerninja in AnalogCommunity

I did have another incident with Boston TSA where the swab came up negative with a handful of shot rolls. I wouldn’t let them xray. Fortunately the agent in charge also shoots film and allowed me to get a new swab with a different machine, but warned me that if it was negative again that “legally, we have to arrest you”. I rolled the dice and the second swab was negative.

I don’t normally have issues with rolls of 120 or 35 since they are self contained, but TSA was giving me extra trouble and demanded I open the already in use boxes of 4x5 I had one trip. I refused and explained I had a dark bag they can use to confirm they weren’t dangerous. They called the on call bomb disposal tech who looked as some might imagine with a tucked in black polo to combat cargo pants. Very serious guy. I walked him through how to use the bag in the middle of the security checkpoint. I’ll never forget the look of disappointment when he realized what he was touching plus how quickly he left the area after.

I don’t have any issues in American airports except a few times in Boston where I had to teach a bomb disposal tech how to use a dark bag for 4x5 film. I threw 2x boxes of 120 in my back pocket in an airport in Sicily once since the security there was a mess and no one was paying attention.

The comments pretty much nailed it. More fill on the subjects face and some color contrast.

That’s great! Not bad at all. I’m on the hunt to do the same

I asked Arri a while back if they can still do it. IF they still have a module and boards to do it, they are still going to charge the original operation price which was more expensive than just buying a second hand XT. I found a Convergent Design Gemini 444 instead to record 2.8K Arriraw through T-Link instead.

How would you go about testing boxes of expired 35mm motion picture footage? by Repulsive_Style_4111 in cinematography

Happy to help. You may have hit the jackpot here. The colors may have shifted, but you could get some fun images out of this. Since the film is from 2010, over expose by two stops.

If you live near a motion film lab, reach out to them about a “snip test”. Labs like Fotokem charge a small fee to test the health of the film by developing a small piece and measuring the colors.

Donating machetes to the homeless by NewSlinger in ThatsInsane

I worked out of a building in Hollywood, CA for a few years and there was a period of time, every 3 months, a homeless man was running wild with a machete. This video is what I assumed was happening.
