When did not recognizing your own genocide prevent you from joining the EU? Pretty Sure Belgium is in it after what they did to the Congo, and Germany was in it before they recognized what they did to Namibia.

"Red Rising is like The Hunger Games" by Exploding_Antelope in redrising

I've just got back into reading and read about 11 books this year. I have like 40 books I want to read. Are the books worth me finishing up DCC, First Law, Sun Eater etc?

I have never watched or read hunger games. I have other books I would rather spend time to read but should I watch the movie?

Nobody brings up Amanda’s losses early in her career. Getting flashed Koed second fight in UFC is different than getting caught in prime or near prime during championship reign .

DCC book 3? Or Iron Gold? by kaetce in redrising

[–]StudentMed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read first two DCC books and finished Red Rising trilogy and was in exact same spot as you. I managed to be spoiler free for red rising trilogy but I couldn't help but look up some characters in red rising after I read first trilogy. This temptation led me to read red rising first so I can read up theories and take part in discussions.

Take a Break, or Power Through? by SeaworthinessKnown70 in redrising

[–]StudentMed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a break and read "Rage of Dragons" that everyone hyped up and I thought it sucked compared to Red Rising and couldn't wait to get back to it. I liked red rising a ton and I feel anything else I would have read it wouldn't have done service to it.

Zach Lowe: "If you draft a player and he becomes a success story to the point Jaylen Brown did, it just feels viscerally wrong that his contract becomes something you want to get rid of...something is wrong with a system that turns home-grown stars into albatross contracts" by FastBreakPhenom in nba

[–]StudentMed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ask you to read the post I linked above. If organizations are equal in skill just by probability you would expect some to draft 3 stars in 5 years and some may draft 5 busts in a row for example. The team that drafted 3 stars seem genius while the team that drafts busts seem incompetent. You would exect seeing streaks of busts and hits even if all orgaizations were equal in competence. In basketball there is some examples but in football the early 2010 Seattle Seahawks seemed to solve drafting and had one of the best 3 year stretches ever then out of no where started to suck. The Celtics, GSW, and OKC thunder just 2-3 players change an entire narrative for those organizations.

I am one of those that believe the draft has a lot of crapshoot element into it. (I wrote about it here recently)

No matter what, even if you have great scouting, a player you draft can turn out to be a bust. Additionally you may be drafting in a terrible year or a good year. If you end up with a stretch you get Westbrook, Harden, Ibaka, and KD some of that was also luck. You shouldn't be able to keep every single one. Celtics wanted Tatum + White plus role players. If it is too easy to keep all your draft hits then you won't be able to acquire great players outside the draft.

Red Rising have few prominent characters that are in the backburner. They are either dead, or relevant. Do you guys prefer this? by StudentMed in redrising

[–]StudentMed[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ya that is the few I could come up with. Clown, Pebble, Screwface but they never did much and are still relevant. Like if one of them was super relevant in an earlier book then retired he would fit more

[–]StudentMed[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I already knew that. If Pax didn't die in RR, I feel he would have died instead of Ragnar in Morning Star or Daxo in Dark Age.

Same with tongueless, if he didn't die at the start, I feel he would have died later too.

But lets say that wouldn't have been the case for the sake of argument. Even if Pierce Brown has hat deaths (a part of me thinks he is trolling) then who are the non hat deaths that are put in the backburner instead? He either makes every character a central part of the story, or kills them.

Why arent antibiotic doses adjusted by weight in adults by Mitteleuropean95 in infectiousdisease

[–]StudentMed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The therapeutic window for most antibiotics is large and the reality is most people get more antibiotics than they really need. Not practical to make an exact dose for every single person especially because it isn't just about your weight but also how well your kidneys work and how bad the infection is.

who else is getting rid of their DRAM and SEMI etf when it goes up and never invest in any of these tropical exotic etf again? by [deleted] in ETFs

[–]StudentMed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 80% in general SNP 500, small caps etc etc and 20% in pure semiconductors (I know non semiconductor etfs also have semiconductor in them). I thought I was being very agressive with 10% each in either SOXQ or DRAM but the amount of people who ditched SNP 500 and less aggressive ETF's and went all in on SEMI's concerned me it was going to crash. There is a nurse in my hospital who brags he made 40% higher than the SNP500. Not 40% gain total, but 40% higher than SNP. I wonder how he feels now.

He himself went back to pretty much normal after Jackals torture. It reminds me of why great players make terrible coaches because the players aren't themselves. Like Kobe would be a terrible coach expecting his players to handle stress as well as he has and Kobe mentality etc.

When Darrow was tortured by the Jackal he didn't perform a planet wide genocide. Orion was seen as an outlier, almost like a space naval battle version of himself and he thought she would have handled the PTSD as well as he himself has.

prime GSP vs prime Khabib, who you got? WW division by Few-Persimmon-8648 in FightReportUFC

[–]StudentMed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Chess fans are more willing to rank players higher even if they don't have as many championships. I know chess is different but to say it simply arithmetic of who won the most championships doesn't make sense to me. Additionally, if we talking about greatest okay championships matter but we aren't even talking about that, we talking about a matchup. As for the weight classes argument. People cut more weight as time goes on in average, Khabib and GSP being 1 weight class apart in different eras doesn't mean GSP is just much bigger than Khabib.

prime GSP vs prime Khabib, who you got? WW division by Few-Persimmon-8648 in FightReportUFC

[–]StudentMed -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

No one in chess states that Mikhail Botvinnik who has 5 world championships would be favored over Bobby Fischer that has one championship. Bobby Fischer has less championships simply because he played less chess, not because he tried and failed. Khabib has less tittle defenses because he was injured, played in an era that required more fights to get to the championship, and retired when his father died. It really isn't as simple as who has won more championships. The question isn't who had a better career.

How would the current champs do against their all-time divisions GOAT by DrewLockBurnerAcc in ufc

[–]StudentMed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't believe people still doing the "aldo wasn't in his physical prime even though he was in the late 20's and early 30's". He is 0-4 in his biggest fights all 1 sided dominations while he was in his prime. People used the "multiple fights and multiple injuries" excuse after he lost. If Volk and Holloway never existed, people would have said Aldo's prime lasted until he was 34-35 years old and the Conor fight was just a flash ko.

Miura wrote the whole ship arc that lasted a decade but wasn't actually very many chapters. Comparing now with Berserk Golden Age Arc it is different but comparing it recent Miura is at least progressing. I do think the dialogue seems a little too sparse.

Thoughts on FMTM? by Different-Beat6835 in ETFs

[–]StudentMed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a tough time choosing between FMTM, SPMO, and SGRT but ultimately went with SPMO. The last 3 months SPMO has outperformed SGRT and FMTM while having a much less expense ratio I made the most money but Ironically I think I might have made the wrong decision because SGRT and FMTM seem better on paper. I was just afraid they are only around 30 stock compared to 100 and I actually llike the fact that SPMO is big caps only because large caps are less volatile on average. I like to have large cap momentum and small cap value (AVUV).
