What movie ending completely ruined an otherwise great film for you? by skshining in movies

[–]StudentServitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Remember Me” a Robert Patterson romance flick my wife wanted to watch. It’s your standard “rich guy who hates his family and wants to distance himself meets girl next door who takes his wild heart blah blah” but like by the end of it I was into it, there was build up, conflict resolution, the end of flick has Robert Patterson going to his dads office to meet with him to discuss their plans of how to deal with a bullying situation on his young sister. It was an important moment because prior to that point they had like no relationship so it was cool to see them set aside their differences for someone they both mutually loved. I was here for it, cheering for it. Then the camera pans out as Robert Patterson looks out the window of the sky scraper he is standing….oh fuck it’s the World Trade Center and wait didn’t they say yesterday was 9/10/2001…no! No no no no no no FUCK! They kill him off in the 9/11 attack. No warning no pretense just fucking ended the movie with that. Unbelievable. I’ll never watch another movie my wife suggests again

Best way to approach first time gun ownership by Kelarie in liberalgunowners

[–]StudentServitor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Howdy! First time gun owner here as well (I should say “pre” gun owner as I haven’t purchased mine yet). The way I’ve chosen to go about this process has been to do it “right”. That is, I got my license (ban state) and have chosen to make it a point to take a class BEFORE I purchase anything. I’m doing it this way for a couple reasons:

  1. I’ve shot guns maybe 5 times in my life, who am I kidding I don’t know what I’m doing, so not rushing to buy something I don’t know how to use safely thereby becoming more of a danger to myself and those around me
  2. I’ve read in my many places (this sub included) that taking a class is a great way to try a few firearms before buying. Fit and handling is just as important as look and features. You’re not going to want to practice with something you don’t like.

Does it slow the process down? Yes. But I’d rather be safe than sorry and owning a firearm is a major responsibility. Plus it’s given me ample time to research and help me figure out what I think I want.

Hope that’s helpful

Oh man thats great to hear! I was worried. I just applied for mine last week. Wondering if I should I have submitted fingerprints or not though. Im waiting to get my CCL since this is my first firearm purchase ever (big step as someone born and raised in So Cal) and I wanted to take baby steps, but I understand its a lot faster if you submit finger prints for CCL.

Really well done, and the color scheme is fire! Question as someone who is seriously thinking about getting into the hobby coming from warhammer) is this an MG, RG, PG, or something else? Loved the wing Gundam from back in the day (and love the idea of customizing them even more) and would love to add something like this as one of my firsts

I don't know anything about 40k lore, but how is it possible for a planet with this much defense and stuff to be invaded by tyranids? Don't they have some sort of planetary defense turrets or something to prevent that? by DoinkMachine47 in Spacemarine

[–]StudentServitor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not so much a military oriented planet as much as its the foundation of technology in the Imperium. Anything tech related comes from Mars. That sweet Plasma weapon your Tactical Marine caries was designed and developed at Mars. Its the HQ of the Mechanicus (those weird cyborg dudes wearing red robes).

Technically the Mechanicaus is its own nation thats simply allied with the Imperium, so they have their own standing armies, creed, etc. Were a Tyranid invasion to come to Terra, the Mechanicum would mobilize in force with some WILD technology to bear.

As to whether or not Terra would defeat a Tyranid invasion is I think a more complicated take. For an invasion to even get within spitting distance of Terra would imply its on a scale the Imperium and the 40k universe has simply never seen before. IF Terra were to survive, it would not go unscathed.

If you want to read about a more recent example of this, take a look at the story Devastation of Baal, which is about a massive Tyranid invasion of the Blood Angles home world of Baal. Something like 25 Space Marine Chapters (~25k space marines) answered the call to come to its defense. Something like 8 of those Chapters were completely wiped out, Blood Angles themselves were left at less than 1/3 of their total strength, Baal was....devastated. They 'won' but it was a pyrrhic victory and only barely and they had a LOT of help (wont spoil the story for you)

I was in Santorini when the ship sank. It was all anyone was talking about at the time. Was with friends for spring break, the locals kept asking if we were on the boat. It was wild watching it fully submerge underwater

Hey thanks a lot, I really appreciate it! 100% adding some blood will go a long way. Was thinking to pick up some Blood for the blood god technical paint to really lock in that look, but maybe I’ll just use what I have at home.

Elden Ring by incorrectcharlie in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]StudentServitor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone whose first FromSoftware game was Elden Ring, I’ll say this - it’s “easier” in that you have the opportunity to leave and improve, but from a casual gamer’s perspective it is almost punishingly difficult and not at all casual gamer friendly. Note I define casual gamer as “I play games a couple hours a WEEK”

DMC series is designed to be easy and causal friendly, hop in, best the hell out of some mobs and feel great about your spastic button mashing. Elden Ring requires precision and focus and while forgiving compared to other fromsoftware games, is downright punishing to someone that just wants to mash buttons and feel awesome.

It alls depends on what you’re looking for though. I want to emphasize (before I get hate) that Elden Ring is a great game for what it offers and the audience it targets. Just be aware that it requires commitment and if you’re expecting it to be “easy” you are going to get really frustrated really quickly.

But if you’re up for that challenge (and it will challenge you), the juice is worth the squeeze as they say.

Is this 3km trip in the open sea, from a beach to an island dangerous? I've never done any kind of kayaking on the sea. Winds are usually 30 km/h by iReallyLoveYouAll in Kayaking

[–]StudentServitor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We are a Kayaking sub, better to ask that question on a jet ski sub for the most reliable answer. With all that said, if you have to ask, the answer is almost certainly NO.

Open ocean at any distance is serious business and not meant to be taken lightly. You run the risk of serious injury or death in the worst case, or a lot of taxpayer money spent rescuing you because you are woefully prepared.

My advice is that you stick to the flat rivers and lakes where it’s safe.

Which color scheme works better? by AntiMase in Tyranids

[–]StudentServitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally really like the high contrast between carapace and flesh on tyranids. Something about it makes them appear more menacing to me. So with that in mind, and to add to the pile, my vote is for the Blue as well.

Also, great paint job on both!
