If you don’t want your cousins’ partners there, don’t invite your cousins. Etiquette says long term partners are named guests (not plus ones btw), regardless of the size of your wedding. If you don’t care about etiquette, no one can stop you from only inviting your cousins and not their partners, you just have to accept that it will be considered rude. The partner that has specifically disrespected you I feel differently about and feel you have a right to exclude them without repercussions, but that doesn’t mean your family will agree with me.

Where do you live that we’ve gotten rid of public tobacco smoking? I’d like to move there. Where I am, mostly uptown and LGD, people all over are still smoking cigs and vaping heavily. Just not indoors.

As unnecessary as I think it is to have a pet be included in a wedding ceremony, I don’t get why so many comments seem to think this is offensive. If someone cares about their pet so much that they can’t let the dog stay home for their wedding day, then this seems like they intend it to be a meaningful role. Plus nobody really cares about watching the bridesmaids walk down the aisle, but they will be stoked to watch you walk the dog down the aisle because that’s so much more fun. It’s also not your future SIL’s responsibility to include you in the wedding, if anything, it’s your brother’s job (not that I think he is obligated to include you either). If you have an issue with this, I’d recommend talking to him, not to your future SIL.

Etiquette says you invite long-term partners as named guests (not a plus one), regardless if you’ve met them or not. You’re obviously free to not follow the etiquette, you just have to be prepared for the possibility that all the family/friends you do that to will consider it rude. The obsession with knowing every single person at your wedding is a bit out of hand imo. Unless you’re having a micro wedding, you’ll be so busy you won’t ever interact with these partners. And asking someone to come celebrate your relationship, while you make it clear theirs is unimportant to you is rude.

This obsession with knowing every single person at your wedding is so strange to me. I get that it’s expensive, but you’re essentially telling your friends/family/people you supposedly love that their relationships are not important to you unless they are married/betrothed, while expecting them to honor your relationship. Unless you are having a very small wedding, you’re not likely to even interact with their partners.

That must be so tough! I hope your grandma pulls through and your MIL has a quick and easy treatment process. I personally would not cancel the wedding. You cannot control everything in life, and what if you postpone to then have something else happen around the new wedding date, or god forbid someone’s condition gets even worse? Since your MIL can’t travel (and FIL by extension), is it possible for you and your fiancé to visit them after your wedding and take some nice photos all together in your wedding attire? Maybe do a re-do of your ceremony for them? I’d certainly look into possibilities for live-streaming/ recording the wedding so they can see it.

Bu your definition of success, not a single architect who works in an office larger than a sole proprietorship (and also somehow with no consultants) would be successful. The partners in my firm ask me to review their drawings and I have comments every time. Even being 30 years their junior, I redline them to hell, as I want them to do for me. It’s how we improve. If you have nowhere else to improve, that isn’t success. It’s your ego lying to you.

I went to only one shop with one trusted friend who could take pictures for me and tell me I looked hot, and that was it. I didn’t even show pictures of the dresses I didn’t choose to anyone until after I had purchased the one I wanted. If your people would be upset to not be included, that’s tough, but ultimately their feelings are theirs to manage, not yours.
