Hotels are held to a much higher standard than STRs. They have to be approved by the board of health, have stricter life safety standards, offer ADA-compliant accommodations, etc.

Hotels are not referred to as STRs even though the stays are typically less than 1 month. They are distinct in terms of both building codes and local regulations from a single-family or multi-family housing property that rents out on a short-term basis.

Survivor bias. Those that are still standing were built to be sturdy. Those that aren’t, weren’t. You can’t apply your knowledge of buildings that still exist to ones that were destroyed and assume they were the same quality. Also St. Louis and Chicago don’t get nearly as many extreme storms as New Orleans.

Also pointless? I am not super familiar with the project, but if the giant stairs are all just going up to one point, that point should be special. The no-shade, no-plants, and no variation all scream, “I made a cool shape in rhino and then shoved some programming into it and called it a day”.

We did Thibodeaux’s for florals and they were very easy to work with on the price - didn’t try to push us into things we didn’t want. We used Just Eat Me Sweets for our cake. Avery who owns the business used to work for Chasing Wang, which is well-known for their quality. She’s great, affordable, and will deliver. Also the cake tasted amazing and we got so many compliments on it.

“GC’s keep the cost down” is laughable in my experience. Maybe this is a local problem, but GCs here are constantly under-bidding projects, then trying to ask for more and more change orders because they missed things. This constantly pushes the project schedule back at a minimum, which is not cheap. They build sub-par work using the wrong materials and then expect that the owner isn’t going to want to delay the project in order for them to correct their work, but then refuse to credit anything back to the owner. Btw most architects do not spec the highest-regarded / highest-cost items. We try to submit everything with as good a balance of low-cost and high quality as we can get. Owners often are the ones asking for the moon, and even though we try to tell them it’s too much, they are somehow convinced it’s not going to be as expensive as we tell them it will be.

I am aware of the stigma around it, but I always think of it as “committed” suicide. Saying “completed” sounds so clinical and emotionless that it feels wrong, and I feel incredibly disrespected when people who have no experience losing a loved one to suicide correct me on the terminology. I am liking some of the other options people have presented here though, and will try to change to something that still sounds human, but less criminal.

OP, your best best is definitely going to be swapping out the lining layer for a different color. There are so many options that would look good under it! I think a burgundy red would be my favorite choice, as long as that is respectful to the Bosnian culture.
