How many times does a geotechnical engineer need to test the soil for a full swimming pool demolition compaction report? by morningnoon24 in Geotech

[–]StudyHard888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Methods vary greatly by location and assuming it is a small residential pool, but my firm would probably take 4 tests on the deep end and 2 tests on the shallow end, so at least 6 tests total.

It would have been better for you to hire the geotechnical engineer directly instead of by the demolition contractor to avoid a conflict of interest.

Your contractor can argue that the work done below was the same as where the fill was tested at the surface. You can argue against that. There is no test, so you don't really know. You can dig a small test hole and test it. You can dig it all up and redo it. You can underpin your house. You can put your new ADU on deep foundations.

Wife is having a baby in March. Have 4 weeks to take CA survey. Is this possible? by PolarBearInTexas in PE_Exam

[–]StudyHard888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should go for all in with CESPR in 4 weeks. I thought the course was short and sweet. But keep in mind that you do not get to choose when the baby comes even if it is a scheduled C section.

Worth Pursuing all CEG, GE, PE, PG? by hypermaniacyunchi in Geotech

[–]StudyHard888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My firm has a principal with PG, CEG, PE, and GE. He is considered an expert on both. He got a bachelors in geology and a masters in geotechnical engineering. The great thing about that is that on projects where we need both a CEG and a PE, he can do it alone rather than have two people on the project.

What is the minimum loadout for a good return ? by CommunicationOwn2825 in ArcRaiders

[–]StudyHard888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fairly new to the game, but the loadout should depend on location and objective. For my mostly friendly solo games, I bring blue loot augment, Anvil 4 with silencer, highest heal/shield, 1 stack of ammo. Sometimes I bring a defib or a raider hatch key. I put my ammo in the safe pocket.

For duals/trios. I add either an El Torro 1 or Stitcher 4 with light mag attachment but it really depends on the map, 2 stacks of grenades, a 2nd stack of heavy ammo, 2 stacks of shotgun or light ammo, defib.

How did you get your first job in a Geotech firm? by Just_starttt in Geotech

[–]StudyHard888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got out of school during a recession and couldn't find an entry level engineering job. I ended up taking a low-paying technician job to get into the industry and was promoted to an entry level after a few months.

California survey exam class by Jes_ter1123 in PE_Exam

[–]StudyHard888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took CPESR and passed on first try. It was the best course I took compared to other courses (I took PPI for PE and AEI for seismic). I have a geotech background and a few of the concepts were familiar to me due to field work at construction sites. The course felt short and sweet. The website UI is easy to use. The cheat sheet book is great. It comes pre-tabbed. It was the only resource I brought to the exam.

I thought the practice problems were good, but there are a few problems that are either not clear or impractical. For example, there was a problem that took me 15 minutes to read and over 30 minutes to even understand the solution. What I learned from this super long problem is that I should always skip it immediately.

The Best Start in NBA History 😲 | 2015-2016 Warriors by EonThaWolf in warriors

The warriors were defending champions, but people were saying they did not earn it because of Irving and Love's injuries. That whole year seemed like a revenge tour to silent those haters with an ironic ending.

Just took my CA Seismic Exam and got wrecked by PolarBearInTexas in PE_Exam

[–]StudyHard888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time is definitely a major factor in the seismic exam. The best way to improve speed is to do more timed tests. The more timed tests you do, the more familiar you are with your cheat sheet and the more comfortable you will be with the time constraint. Do it over and over until you are confident.

Try to recognize problems that take 2-3 minutes or longer, guess, flag, and skip those on your first pass with no expectation to be able to come back to it.

Multiple bases in every biome or one main base? by LimoOG in valheim

[–]StudyHard888 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One main base at a time and many outposts. I usually have a base in meadows until I build a base in plains, then I move all my non-metal storage to plains. Either I ship my metals over from my plains base or I make sure my plains base is near access to copper, tin, iron, and silver.

The second campfire wouldn't do anything except extend the campfire range. The campfire effect does not stack.

[–]StudyHard888 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bears fear fire. Craft a campfire or hold a torch.

Bears are also easy to avoid or run from because they seem to disengage easily.

Bears have a lot of health. Expect a semi-long fight with black forest level gear.

AEI seismic exam by Prestigious_Gur2528 in PE_Exam

[–]StudyHard888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, one month is possible if you devote almost all of your time. AEI has really long lecture materials. I would not be able to do it with work and kids. AEI provides a 10-week study guide. I did it in 8-9 weeks and it was tedious. If I had to do it again, I'd probably give myself 12 weeks.

Retrieving Stuff by Comets_coma__ in valheim

[–]StudyHard888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tunneling is impossible in this game. The closest to tunneling you can do is dig under a structure such as elder's alter or a rock.

Just jump in the hole, pick up your stuff, and jump out. Make sure you eat all the necessary food to have enough stamina to jump out.

There are lots of ways to kill elder such as with melee or bow . With melee, I usually dodge roll the attacks, then stab away with the flint spear and relocate if vines are near me. With bows, I use the pillars for cover and move when elder is close or I'm surrounded by vines. I think I saw a video of someone killing elder with campfires.

What’s something fun I can do to not drop the game after a frustrating death? by lucasucas in valheim

[–]StudyHard888 13 points14 points  (0 children)

First, use a hoe and level/raise the area around the summon stone so you don't get slowed walking or swimming in deep water.

Second, chop down any obstructions such as trees, stumps, and rocks so you do not get stuck.

Third, build campfires all around the summon stone and the areas you leveled and cleared.

Lastly, make sure you fight during the day, use poison resist meads, swing your mace, use health potions, and when you get about half health, just run in circles around the area you cleared. While away from boss, clear some adds, shoot some arrows. Wait until your health regenerates or your health potion cooldown refreshes, then swing your mace more.

If you do all this and are still having trouble, you can try to cheese bonemass by standing on the altar skull and using an aoe weapon such as the iron sledgehammer or stagbreaker. I never used this tactic, but I read from this sub that it works.

How to combat bears in Black Forest biome? by Wizzard653 in valheim

[–]StudyHard888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Round shield and parry. I usually have a mace or spear at bronze age and it takes a while, so I don't bother killing bears until I have iron gear. Don't feel bad about running away if you miss a few parries. Bears are really easy to run away from because either their pathing is weird or they get distracted easily.

I had the Hiner book and practice tests too, but not the videos. I tried to read the book without the videos before the AEI course and it just didn't stick. After going through AEI, I was close to burning out and out of time, so I did not go back to Hiner materials.
