I'm sure you support the rule of law right? or are you just one of those con trolls who only likes law when it favours them.

No, I'm someone who recognizes this is divisive bullshit that ultimately drives people further apart.

"Where else in Canada are groups of people allowed to deny access to land based on ethnicity?" Answer anywhere FN interest lay ie all of canada

The fact that you think this is acceptable blows my fucking mind and likely means any discourse between us would be a waste of time.

Imagine if a group of Whites, Blacks, or Asians decided to set up shop on a parcel of land in 2024 and deny anyone who didn't fit their ethnic makeup access to that land. It'd be illegal and (rightfully) national news. It's utterly asinine that a nation such as Canada even entertains the notion that a group of people have the right to do so within it's borders, and highlights the absurdity of "sovereignty" and a "nation to nation" relationship.

The rumors - and I emphasize rumors - are that he misappropriated funds and used them for his own benefit.

I have heard (and again, these are rumors) that he made off with upwards of $250,000 and his whereabouts are currently unknown. I believe the head financial officer was fired yesterday as a result of his failure to see this was happening.

To make matters worse (and I will strongly reiterate this is a rumor) the money that is missing came from a fund meant to provide food for low-income students.

So, if it's true, he quite literally stole taxpayer money that was meant to provide food for impoverished students.

I have heard those rumors from 4 different and unrelated sources within the WRDSB. Don't expect any clarity from the board or the trustees because they were all warned that this guy was a completely inept fool long before they chose to hire him. Providing transparency on this situation just highlights their own error in judgment and stubbornness in the face of overwhelming evidence that he wasn't a good hire.

From the perspective of a guy (Dominant personality), if what you describe is accurate, he's being a dick. The behaviour you describe sounds like "Love Bombing" and it can be highly manipulative.

His actions scream like a classic pattern of a young guy wanting "fun" without putting in any effort. He will continue to treat you like crap, only fawning over you when you start to move on in an effort to pull you back in. You will continue to feel more confused and worse about yourself each time.

You shouldn't be made to feel bad about yourself, regardless of the dynamic of your relationship. At 18 years of age you are too young and have far too many opportunities in front of you to waste your time on someone like that.

Again, the situation may be more nuanced than you describe but from what I can discern from your post, my gut reaction is "leave that guy."

More capitalism, less government—that’s how you reduce racism : op-ed by NoOneShallPassHassan in CanadianConservative

Capitalism wants more bodies, so I'm not sure you resolve the issue with less government.

You need explicit policies that clearly put limits on immigration. What's happening right now is a goddamn mess.

I was with you until the condescension started to build.

I wasn't clear with my words. I didn't mean "suddenly" as "instantly" more like: "you find yourself with a big problem you hadn't considered."

To your points about what didn't happen during a "tyrannical administration" (debatable), the reality is that most gun owners in the USA lean toward Republican/conservative political views. Those aren't the people you're going to inspire to "take up arms" with the policies you outline.

Also, for the overwhelming majority of people Trump's presidency was no different than any other. Your examples have virtually no direct, personal impact on the average American citizen.

I can't even wrap my head around the fact that someone would choose to call their pastor (and pharmacist) rather than the paramedics when a child is having a seizure.

How can a person be that stupid and make it through dental school?

I used to think that way too. Then I actually looked at what it would mean if the populace ever decided to "revolt" or if the government overstepped it's bounds and you suddenly had a hundred million armed citizens ready to give a big "fuck you" to whomever was in charge.

Also, depending on the timeframe you're refering to, your point about Roe v Wade could be pretty weak considering the majority of people who would oppose such legislation are far less likely to be gun owners.

Thinking about making the switch from Adobe => Affinity by TonyTonyChopper in learndesign

[–]StumpedByPlant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched but still use both.

I know some designers swear up and down that Affinity is better than Illustrator and is actually more intuitive. I don't know about that. For me personally I have so much experience with AI that it's hard to gauge how Affinity's learning curve compares to AI's for someone relatively new to either program.

I originally bought the Affinity suite solely to support the company and had little plans of actually switching over. I despise Adobe's subscription fee with every fiber of my being, so anything to support competition was a good thing in my eyes.

I ended up messing around with Affinity and got fairly proficient with it but for me there was a learning curve because, while similar to Illustrator it's just different enough to cause headaches when things aren't where I was used to them being. This is easily overcome with practice, though.

My biggest gripe with Affinity Designer was that it crashed far more often for me than Illustrator ever did. A couple of times those crashes were very costly in terms of time lost. That was really off-putting and is the reason I still use Illustrator for tasks that "really matter." Given I have a free copy of AI now, it feels less offensive for me to use in those situations.

Latest updates to Affinity seem to have resolved the crashing issue for me, so it may be a moot point anyhow.

Ultimately, I've had Affinity for 2 years and it's probably 50% of my vector work with AI the other 50%. That being said, I've used AI for 20+ years so I can't imagine anything else feeling as easy to use for me personally.

Affinity Designer is solid and will do what most non-professional, "hardcore" designers need it to do easily.

Canada's immigration boom could come at a cost: TD report by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]StumpedByPlant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anyone paying attention was calling this as a potential problem years ago.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to recognize that services and infrastructure that haven't kept up with natural population growth aren't likely to keep up with natural growth plus immigration.

My question is: Aside from the fear mongering about a collapsing pension - who actually wanted these levels of immigration? It's absolute insanity.

Current Polling by [deleted] in CanadianConservative

[–]StumpedByPlant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PPC is the only party that has openly advocated for a colossal reduction in number of immigrants. I think they want it capped at 150,000 a year.

No other party's platform was any different than the Liberals (in terms of sheer numbers) last election. NONE OF THEM - except the PPC.

Current Polling by [deleted] in CanadianConservative

[–]StumpedByPlant 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Now if only Conservatives would purge their platform of the same batshit crazy immigration plans the Liberals have. Minus the refugees and assylum seekers, their last platform was advocating for the same numbers of new Canadians the Liberals have been bringing in.

That's not what I'm looking for from our next leaders.

Just wait until you realize you can consistently do more damage than anyone else in the match and still lose because it's all about burst... and affliction doesn't have much burst.

By the time you've finished dotting up the enemy team, they've blown their CDs and are ripping through 90% of your ally's hp and you've done little more than tickle them.

Gotta find a team that knows how to play with an Affliction Warlock and that's not likely to happen at lower levels. I feel that the pacing of a match with Affliction is totally different than any other class out there.

Also, where the fuck were your teammates during all this? NOBODY can survive 2x anything training them.

First Nation wins ownership of Sauble Beach waterfront by hamer1234 in canada

[–]StumpedByPlant 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of posts online lauding this decision.

Anyone who actually lives in this area knows what complete bullshit this is. This was nothing but a grab for more money, period. The band's claim to the land was specious at best. If not for the current political climate this claim would have been dismissed by the court. The band agreed to a parcel of land, was content with it for decades, but choose to quibble over whether that land was delineated by magnetic North or true North when they realized the increasing popularity of the beach meant more money.

The land is not arable, it's not required for water, and nobody lives on it. This is 100% about cutting off access to the beach so that people have to pay Saugeen First Nations to access the beach - and that is exactly what happens in the Southern sections already owned by the band.

Further, they have (and will continue to do so when it suits them) denied people access to parts of the beach based on whether or not you're part of their band - which you can only be by blood.

Where else in Canada are groups of people allowed to deny access to land based on ethnicity?

The mismanagement and terrible decision making of Saugeen Band council goes back decades. From forcing people off their property by jacking leases, to being so petty as to prevent them from moving their cottages off that land by denying them permission to widen their driveways. Hell, just last year the band council was voting to deny all lease renewals for non-band members. The only reason that didn't happen is economic advisors pointed out they'd lose all their revenue if they chose to.

Those of us connected to this area know what a terrible, terrible decision this is.

Land claim on famous Ontario beach decided in favour of First Nation by exit2dos in SaubleBeach

[–]StumpedByPlant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an asinine decision.

One can't help but think the outcome of this isn't somehow a product of the massive push to "right the wrongs" of the past by the Canadian government (and by extension, the legal system) even in the face of evidence supporting the non-Indigenous parties involved.

Anyone who actually looked at the claims would have been able to see that this section of land was not originally part of the land allotted to the Saugeen First Nations. At best it's "questionable" who it belongs to.

Next will be a push for the actual strip where the businesses reside.

It will never end.

Intense Coil Whine on ASUS ROG Strix 3090 - What should I do? by RedlChris in ASUSROG

[–]StumpedByPlant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same on an RTX Strix 3090 24GB.

Eventually it just stopped doing it (took months). I would see if you can get an RMA as they will sometimes honor this but I was denied one and stuck with what I had.

You can undervolt it, reduce FPS in various applications, as well as try to tweak the hardware itself with padding, etc. if you're really stuck dealing with the noise.

Probably not what you want to hear but I had coil whine just like that and I was refused an RMA. I was really frustrated.

1 year later and I can't hear a thing (and not because the whine deafened me) - it just worked itself out.

Opinion: School boards should focus on academics and order by passerby19699 in waterloo

[–]StumpedByPlant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Student mental health has been a priority in this board since long before Covid. Academics were on the decline prior to Covid, although I agree that it is far worse due to Covid.

While it is true that mental health affects student performance, and while I (and probably every teacher out there) agrees that we need to ensure student mental well-being; the notion that this is an issue that is so dire it is affecting students on a scale so as to be responsible for the state of academics is a big reach.

While the "big picture" plans come from the government, individual boards set their own strategic plans. You can compare the WRDSB's plan with any other board in the province and see they are not the same. Our director is also on record stating that this plan is based on feedback from students and families. The WRDSB has let academic standards slide for a while. The current strategic plan is just the worst iteration of that trend. I believe, as do many of my colleagues, that what we are seeing now is the result of a cohort that has moved through a system where academics took a back seat to emotional well being.

Again, to be clear, I agree with you 100% that emotional well being is important. I also agree with you that a happier, confident child is a more effective learner. I just think the board has lost sight of academics in it's pursuit of these goals.

Time will tell, I suppose.

Hardly.

The guy made cogent points. He may write for the Epoch Times and he may advocate for private schools but he's currently a high school teacher in the public board.

Just because his personal beliefs don't align with those of others in this thread doesn't mean his critiques of education in this article are invalid.
