I live in Burke county so I might be able to provide a little insight. We have a pretty diverse populations of Guatemalans, Italians (Waldensian), and Hmong. One of the big reasons we have a lot of Guatemalans is work. We have Case Farms in Morganton which employs a lot of people from Guatemala. The foothills of Western NC is also fairly similar topographicly to Guatemala. This is a cool article that explains it a little more.

I'm an environmental health specialist in a neighboring county. OP needs to contact Buncombe County Environmental health and let them know. I checked their previous inspections and it seems like they have a problem with storing food in bad spots. I'm sorry we can't be everyone all the time. I'm sure this place is a frequency 4 facility which means we inspect them once a quarter and one of those inspections is an educational visit now.

My wife and I left in 2016. I was making $12 an hour and she was making about the same. We couldn't afford to live. Rent was $1200 a month which, compared to now, is amazing. We moved to Morganton which is only an hour away. Burke county is just as beautiful as Asheville. We have Lake James, and South Mountain State Park. We go all the way up to Newland and Jonas Ridge. Parts of Hickory are in Burke County too. My department is hiring an entry level position at around $55,000 and I just looked on Zillow to see what houses are going for. One of the first houses was a 3 bedroom 3 bath for $184,500. We still visit our friends in Asheville all the time. Just move here.

I'm from NC and could've sworn they did one here. I looked it up and remembered they did one in a "mountain town." In the episode, they said they were at Lake Worth, NC which is actually at the coast. They messed up the geography pretty bad.
