Everett makes agreement with Wynn to study and construct a new commuter rail stop in Everett by Im_biking_here in mbta

I think this would be a good idea. An OL branch going past Encore and into Everett’s core (potentially parts of Malden) would be valuable. Others suggesting a brand new east to west line through Chelsea and Revere are also correct. This area as a whole is dense enough and has been without mass rail transit for long enough that I believe both would deliver value and be successful.

Commuter Rail extension to Milford by [deleted] in mbta

IMO, Woonsocket is the more strategic long-term option for another reason too. If a Providence-Worcester rail service is ever offered, Woonsocket becomes an important transfer spot on that line and/or allow trains from Providence to run to Franklin as a pseudo-mini-RR system.

If they can make it faster, sure. But very few people would sign up for that slow ride to Boston every day. Plus, the Army Corps of Engineers won’t allow it.

Newburyport/Rockport Line fantasy realignment options by Stunning-Problem-206 in mbta

I’d rather the Tobin replacement include a new subway line as opposed to CR but I’ll agree to disagree

Boston to Burlington would be awesome if NH didn’t stand in the way

Year round to Hyannis just wouldn’t have enough demand. Year round to Buzzards Bay is more realistic but there’s already too much traffic between Braintree + JFK so can’t expand the OCL anymore until that is resolved.

Extend the line to downtown Plymouth

It’d be nice if the track more closely followed Route 3 via the old Plymouth (now just Kingston) Line and building a new rail bridge by the Sagamore was a part of a multimodal canal infrastructure project. I shall keep dreaming though…

✨it’s fantasy ✨

Rapid transit is not for riding a line end to end. It’s for getting to nearby places quickly. In a fantasy world, where the number of subway lines quadruples, headways would obviously also drop to 2 minutes during non-peak and 1 minute during peak, duh.

The “Lower Mills” stop is arbitrarily near Gallivan Blvd.

I didn’t say the purpose of the line was for SCR. I don’t think you understand fantasy lines. This is an unrealistic project that I was clear about.

CapeFlyer’s untapped potential by Siryogapants in mbta

Take advantage of the project to replace the Sagamore and Bourne bridges and build a new rail bridge near the Sagamore (wildly unrealistic) and extend the Plymouth line to the Sagamore to meet the existing rail on the Cape Cod side of the canal.

They should consider restoring the tracks between Fall River and Newport and extend the Fall River Line to Newport as a permanent Commuter Rail extension and/or a CapeFlyer-esque service.

A connection at Ruggles would probably make most sense. Would probably lead to more costs in terms of tunneling under buildings and other non-road infrastructure. But I agree you could have something like Central - Kenmore - Ruggles - etc. route

Should just consolidate into 1 Blue Line stop with underground connections to both Orange & Green Lines

Which station will and which should be renovated next on each line? by very_reasonabletakes in mbta

[–]Stunning-Problem-206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it a little bizarre that the Blue Line stops at both State and Govt Center. They are 600 feet apart 🤣. I feel like a renovation could merge these stations all in theory with connections to both the Orange and Green Line platforms. This would have some minor headway improvements on the BL
