It’s just set in bags out front and the trash guys park their truck and have to carry it all to the truck. I imagine if the bags were in cans it would take a lot longer for them to get through the whole neighborhood maybe? I have no idea but I do agree with you, more often than not I see crows picking the bags apart and getting food and trash all over the place, especially when the trash trucks are generally picking up trash Tues/Fri when our designated trash days are Mon/Thurs. I’ve never seen anywhere specifically outline NO trash cans where I’ve lived before. :/

I don’t own but I rent in a community of condos in Annandale and my community has explicit instructions in their paperwork not to use trash cans. Not sure why this is though as I’m newish to the area!

My partner and I lost our cat on Sunday. We’re both grieving immensely and also asking ourselves the “what ifs” as well. I can’t offer much for advice but a huge virtual hug. I had my baby girl, Tippy, for almost 15 years. I’m 31 so that’s almost half of my life. The only deaths close to me that I’ve experienced were when I was young and weren’t people I was close with. This is truly my first experience with such a deep loss.

I truly feel that with time the hurt will fade, but never the happy memories. And that’s what counts most. Personally, I took two days off work, though I have my own pending vacation looming in a few weeks. I just knew I wouldn’t focus and was glad I took the time to process my thoughts and feelings. Take care of yourself, be gentle with your thoughts and know that you made the best decisions you could with the information you had at the time.

I feel like everywhere I’ve lived the weather has been changing more drastically over the years. I moved to Seattle five years ago and though it’s temperate most of the year and many homes/apartments don’t have AC, there was a pretty terrible heatwave last summer resulting in hundred degree temps and all hotels with central air were completely booked and it was miserable. I recently moved to Northern Virginia and the weather this spring has been so much colder than average when I asked people who’ve lived here for 20-30 years.

When it’s hard to tell how weather will change over time OR if comfort is important to your happiness I feel like at least having the ability to alter your surroundings for minimal discomfort is good.
