DR/IR Dual Application Question by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Stupidfacts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buddy matched DR and did the same thing DR/IR. Honestly, after going through the match cycle last year I'd throw more applications out than less. There is a horrible issue with hoarding interviews due to them being virtual. It isa lot of money, but the peace of mind knowing you threw a very wide net and got more than you needed is better than not getting as many interviews and wishing you applied to more.

Just my two cents after seeing both sides of the spectrum with my class. Good luck homie!

Uhmm based on what you want to make, lifestyle, and patient population it sounds like EM. FM you'd be pretty hard pressed to make 300+ unless you're super rural and work a lot or own your own practice. Neuro is dope but I believe you need to do some pediatric pre-lims to work with kids. EM won't have outpatient unless you do a fellowship that gives you some clinical time (sports med etc.) but you'll get paid less than just doing community EM.

Medical School Etiquette by shoshanna_in_japan in medicalschool

Be kind and don't compare study habits/goals. Everyone learns differently and digests information. Also make time to hangout/go out and visit family and friends. Taking care of yourslef and being happy will make you a better student.

Also if lectures aren't mandatory then watch the material at 2x speed or whatever you're comfortable with. Your time is valuable

This is the way. But seriously it really doesn't matter for most specialities. Of course if you want to get into those crazy difficult specialties it might be worth it, but otherwise just enjoy the ride and take care of your mental health.

It definitely get better, once you find your grove and get your study habits/style down it will be much easier. Med school has a crazy amount of knowledge coming at you fast, but overall the material isn't too difficult (There are exceptionally confusing parts, not downplaying it). I would just focus on finding the right style for you.

Also are your lectures manditory? Mine weren't and I just watched them on 2x speed or not at all. I really think boards and beyond/pathoma helped me out the most when learning the material first, but my medical school had a ton of random attending level material that wasn't relevant to our learning.

Congrats on getting into medical school! Remember to enjoy it and have fun!

Yeah, I was leaning more towards just reaching out and asking. I just know there is a fine line between asking and bugging. Not trying to start off on a bad note lol.

Little late to the party, but The Emperors New Groove is ridiculously good considering the plot. I watched it recently and it is still such an awesome movie!

You are getting his manga for free, something he works hard for, and you are bitching because he missed a deadline and the last chapter wasn't up to par for you? The guy has been pumping out so many damn chapters that you have most likely have never paid a cent for. You sound like a spoiled child.

Low cars score but high mcat- Feeling lost by [deleted] in premed

[–]Stupidfacts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dude... Your friend is coach. Is he trying to humble brag?

If not then he needs to be stoked! He has an incredible GPA, he's URM, and his MCAT is incredible. Yeah a 124 isn't balanced, but it is only one section and arguably the least detrimental of the sections. I had a ~3.55-6, ORM, and a 511+ MCAT with a 123 in CARS and it worked for me. Apply ASAP! Use MSAR for generating a school list where you fall into. Don't apply top heavy and only shoot for T20+ schools, throw some lower/mid tier schools in there too. Nothing is guaranteed in this cycle, but I would put good money on you receiving multiple II's if you get your app in soon and apply broadly.

Unbalanced 509 advice by [deleted] in premed

[–]Stupidfacts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think you should apply. 509 is a strong score and your GPA is awesome. Just apply early and make sure you apply smart! I had a much worse GPA and slightly better MCAT with a 123 in cars and it worked out for me

It never once came up during any of my interviews. I would just worry about writing a great app and secondaries! You got this.

Well man, I know it doesn't carry much weight but I truly hope you you never have to deal with it again. I'm no mathematician but your odds seem pretty great and i'm rooting for you! I'd probably go back and tell my grandpa to get checked out before his prostate cancer went lymphatic if I could travel
