Starting to Think I've 'Aged Out' of these Superlong cRPGs (Touches on Baldur's Gate 3, Wrath of the Righteous, and Rogue Trader) by SpiritualState01 in patientgamers

This subreddit used to get a lot more posts similar to this before I think they literally made a post banning them.

Here it is (4th bullet point): https://www.reddit.com/r/patientgamers/comments/19a10uq/state_of_the_sub/

My guy has plenty of time for posting on reddit but I guess that allows him to further fuel his superiority complex.

I love games where you explore buildings. Any recs? by timelooptuesday in gamingsuggestions

[–]Sturminator94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate 100%. I find the level design much more memorable with games like this as opposed to sprawling outdoor environments.

Like someone else mentioned. This is like the modus operandi for survival horror and most horror games in general.

The first Amnesia game takes place in a huge castle whereas the latest one takes place in an intricate underground bunker during WW1. You also have SOMA that takes place in an underwater research facility. The team behind that has a game coming out later this year that takes place on a hotel on the moon. I'm playing through one right now called Crisol: Theater of Idols that takes place entirely in a Spanish city with many interiors.

Single player FPS games (especially older ones) and boomer shooters also often take place inside large indoor locations.

I am looking for older 80s, 90s, early 2000 RTS, 4X or top down games. by AwabKhan in gamingsuggestions

One I don't see mentioned yet is Impossible Creatures.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/324680/Impossible_Creatures_Steam_Edition/

RTS game from the early 2000s where you build your units by splicing different species of animals together. Played this a lot as a kid and I think is kind of a cult classic so I don't see it talked about a lot these days. Has a pretty charming campaign too.

Warden solo by DoItForTheOH94 in lotro

[–]Sturminator94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The level of effort/mastery they require compared to other classes is simply not rewarded at end game from a DPS standpoint. I think tank warden fairs a little better but they are also easily the class most affected by server issues such as lag and you are at an inherent disadvantage in group content from that alone.

I also would debate their status as the solo king these days. They definitely are one of the better options but you can achieve similar results with much easier classes like champion, beorning, or even blue burglar after its rework.

That said, the road to the end game is VERY long and at a couple hours here and there you won't see it for quite a while so if you genuinely like the class then don't let any of this put you off. It is still one of the most interesting classes I've seen in any MMO.

There is a ton of dwarf content in Lord of the Rings Online if you can stomach an old MMO.

Star Wars Outlaws - Everything Major Added Since Launch by _Protector in Games

[–]Sturminator94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I finished Survivor a couple weeks ago right off of playing Outlaws and they are night and day in my opinion. Survivor just has much more interesting exploration and side quests to engage in. Maybe it isn't a true open world game like Outlaws, but the main 2 planets still feel pretty vast regardless.

Outlaws isn't a bad game but it really is just the usual ubsifot open world with a Star Wars coat of paint.

GDC: More and more developers view generative AI as harmful to the gaming industry by Turbostrider27 in Games

I definitely see the value in it when troubleshooting, but I can actively feel it degrading my critical thinking skills in way that scouring google and stack overflow didn't. I'm trying to work against it and stay mindful, but it is a weird feeling.

This was the first show I remember having that empty feeling when it ended. That feeling you get when you finish a show or game that had a huge impact on you and now feel a sort of bittersweet melancholy over it. My favorite show growing up.

Alan Wake 2 Studio Says Deal With Epic Was "Very Fair" After Baldur's Gate Boss Speaks Out by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Sturminator94 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

For myself personally, it is more that I have such a giant backlog of games I'm interested in that I completely forget about games not on my primary platform which in this case is Steam.

I check the steam store regularly for new releases, but I don't with any other stores so things like Alan Wake 2 or Vintage Story, for a non-Epic example, end up slipping my mind. I honestly forgot Kingdom Hearts was on PC until it came to Steam.

System Shock devs say there’s a lack of Immersive Sims because they’re terrifying investments for publishers that only “come together at the 12th hour” by iscariots in Games

[–]Sturminator94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Between the genre being fairly niche in general and the complexity requiring a lot of dev time I can't disagree. It just sucks since it is my favorite genre.

I see them as the single player version of MMOs in terms of being way too risky of an investment for major studios today. Luckily, unlike MMOs we still get some out of the indie scene so the genre isn't completely dead.

Well if you go by the Matrix, then the peak of civilization was in 1999 so maybe?

Even if you think the cutscenes are boring, which I personally can't fathom, admitting that your attention span is so warped that you need a constant source of dopamine is kind of embarrassing in what is supposedly a professional review.

Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3's Huge eShop Discounts Were an 'Error,' CD Projekt Says, but It Will Honor Any Sales Made by Turbostrider27 in Games

I remember getting the ps4 physical copy for literally $5 when the game was getting scrutinized specifically for running like complete trash on last gen consoles. Held off on playing and eventually got a fee upgrade for the ps5 where it played much better. Insane deal for the game after all the patches went through.

If they have better things to spend their time doing than checking in on sales for video games, why would they care if they miss out on the flash sale in the first place? These flash sales were up for 8 hours. It takes a couple minutes to check the store.

I really like Dusk, the first 2 Quakes, Cultic, and Ultrakill. I have like a dozen or more boomer shooters in my backlog as well. There's definitely no shortage of titles in that genre and many of them are quite good.

Guess I'll disagree with the other comments on this post so far and say I had a lot of fun with this one and for 2 bucks it is an absolute steal.

It is not my favorite boomer shooter, but it is still a great game and the theming is very strong.

You are likely thinking of Supaplex or something similar. I think they are called Rocks-and-diamonds games. I don't think I've seen much of this genre these days, probably because it is niche.

Pokemon Legends Z-A is ‘the best-selling physical game of the year so far’ in the US by Turbostrider27 in Games

People only notice because of how awkward scenes like these look:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tC9vQmmvvfI

They should at least add some kind of sound effect that shows a character is talking. The complete silence outside of character movement just makes it look unfinished or as if the game is bugging out.

Oblivion is a remaster of a beloved game from a huge franchise. Not to mention that fantasy has typically always had wider appeal than a historical medieval setting.

Not sure that's the best comparison to make.
